Final update: this little reel is the little engine that could ru-vid.comUgkxSlytCJqozTF7EbdP4LWP-HUXf9WRDJ0e . It performed flawlessly and was easy to adjust drag in the moment while I was battling a 35lb bat ray behemoth. Mind you, this reel is spooled with only 25 lb braid and 25 mono topshot. It's paired with the kastking telescopic heavy power rod and the two work well together. This has now earned my respect and confidence when traveling and fishing. If you have ever hooked into large rays and sharks, you know they pull extremely hard and can run forever! This thing clamped down on the fish and was easy to adjust during the fight. It has a nice decently fast retrieve as well. Twice the fish went on mad runs and I was able to gain back line quickly to avoid spooling.

If you want a similar experience but an easier time getting to the the Potomac River head to a town called Sandy Hook (which you'll go past) and then find parking near the C&O Canal. Walk up the nearby trail as far as you want and then take a path down to the river and wade on out in it. I Highly recommend bringing a hiking pole that you can use help keep yourself upright when walking through currents but also for the most part your just going down river so just go with the current as you fish until you get back to where you parked. I personally use smaller bait and spinners. If you want to catch just about everything get some live minnows and you may catch a big Catfish. Lastly bring a pair of fishing glasses so you see where you are going in the water. wading into a river personally is a very rewarding experience in my opinion but be warned its also kind of tiring. Be prepared to fall on your butt a lot cause its going to happen.

The Virginia Canal crushes it smallmouth fishing! I grew up wading those waters on the spinning rod! Looking to come back soon and fish that section with the fly rod for some soon! Such a fun area.

I live in VA and my favorite type of fishing is wading in the Potomac for Smallies. Absolutely beautiful scenery, keeps you cool, and catching one of the strongest fighting freshwater fish. Be careful out there Mike, I’ve had some close calls wading and the river really is no joke. I would love to go out with you sometime to catch some Smallies on the Potomac.

ive been wading in the potomac for 15 years now around Sandy Hook. Usually always catch some bass and sunfish with spinners but with live minows you can really get into some nice Channel Catfish

@@pauleyplay hmm say overall the fishing has stayed consistent where I go. Keeper/big smallies have always been hard to get (granted I stopped using Hellgrammites which they love due to time constraints) but on a nice sunny day spinners like the Blue Fox can catch decent amount of smallies and sunfish if they are biting. Channel Cats are similar but I say ive caught more larger ones over the years and with live bait they seem to be always be biting in morning and evenings. I don't know much about the grasses to really say anything but I say river is cleaner based on sight and Ive heard its improved to a B- recently in terms of river health so thats good news.

Went out fishing this morning (im also from Maryland) at my local lake. 3 times in the span of 30 minutes fish were bobbing out of the water, ended up hooking a 3lb small mouth bass but in the process I hooked myself as well on the treble hook xD Update got pulled over that night as well lmao

I believe that was a garden orb weaver. They spin their webs in the morning in low lying tree branches especially around water to catch bugs all day, then at the end of the day they'll eat their entire web instead of each individual bug.

every time i watch 1rod1reel go fishing and he does something i think is smart or is cool i try my best to remind myself that i to want to be just like 1rod1reel. After Watching 1rod1reel , i have waterproofed my straws that i cut up to help my baits like marshmellows and peeps and hotdogs stay on my line better , but now im going to take everything out my backpack and waterproof my entire backpack just like 1rod1reel has done so when it rains everything is protected in the backpack. Thank you 1rod1reel for providing your viewer with these awesome ideas. Because of you i was able to make a night fishing vid that i was absolutly excited to make , after i made the night fishing vid it felt so good to share it on youtube.

1 Rod 1 Reel of all the online fishing tubers, I would want to fish with you. I’m in the twilight of my fishing days and I’ve been fishing over fifty five (55) years. The others don’t appeal to me because of their agenda where you seem just have fun and share it with others. I wish you lived closer because I’d love to have fun fishing with you. Mike, I enjoy your vids. I had a great wading trip on the Susquehanna River below the Conowingo dam yesterday - like you Potomac River trip, just way less dangerous! If you are up for another trip to Harford County, I'd love to show you around. I don't have a RU-vid channel, but would love to fish with you. With the low summer release schedule, you can wade out pretty far and find some deep holes where bigger smallies might be hiding. I caught several 16" plus fish on both topwater and spinnerbaits yesteray. I'm happy to share the pics with you, just not sure how to get in touch with you.
