Realised I had a old one of these in the drawer, could I use this on a single pc set up to capture my game and stream through obs? My monitors are all display ports though
I just discovered this review after buying this and it’s obvious that the firmware updates that have happened in the time since have made this a far better product. I’ve used it with no issues at all at 1080p60 and 4k30 resolution.
Man thank you very much for this review and getting through the headache of testing with laptops. This was very useful to me and my friends that record at gaming tournaments. Very well done.
Any chance you could do a follow-up on the driver issues now that it's about a year and a half since this review? Trying to see if this will fit my needs but I have ultrawide to consider. Thanks!
Bro, THANK YOU! I was having trouble getting my video to stop stuttering and you talking about usb port types made me think to switch to another port and viola. Life saver!
I just bought this capture card to use for my playstation 5 but I realized after the fact it has no audio port. How do I get my playstation chat audio to my PC with this card??
So we are exactly 2 years and 3 days since this video came out, has the GC553 fixed some of the issues via firmware of future builds? If not, is there a better card for laptops that can have 4k60fps passthrough you can recommend (since I don't mind if my videos or streams themselves are not in 4k but I want the card to recognize the resolution)?
Were you able to capture audio via usb..? The portable 2 had an audio out jack, while this capcard doesn't... and the laptop isnt getting any audio from the usb capture
You are the only person I've seen to go into detail about why the frame rate doesn't stay at a consistent 60FPS. Thank you so much for saving me a bunch of time, I was going to get my capture card replaced until I watched your video. Did you ever find a fix to try and get the capture device to maintain a stable frame rate, or is it always going to be like this? If so, I'll probably sell it and buy an Elgato card instead.
Do you know how well the RECentral app works with Mac? I was thinking about using this card so that I could have an HDR workflow. I'm not the biggest fan of OBS and I'm pretty sure QuickTime doesn't support HDR capture. I can use OBS if I have to but I was just curious if avermedias software was stable? What's the highest bitrate it can record at?
Did you try different USB c to c cables? I had an issues with a USB C SSD where I couldnt get the full throughput due to the cable. It seems like a lot of USB C to C cables are poor quality and are more intended for charging rather than data.
I had two different ones and both were high quality, one was a Thunderbolt 3 cable certified for full 3.1 backwards compatibility. And the other driver issues were on the included C to A cable.
hi i have a razer blade 17 pro 2020 with RTX 2080 Super i have a external gaming monitor, the razer blade laptop im in the marker to buy a capture card to stream my games i play on pc but im looking for 1440P Resolution in over 100FPS to stream to youtube. will i be able to connect this to my razerblade laptop that has rtx 2080 super and use my external monitor to game and record everything on my laptop , than edit it before i upload it to youtube ? also will i be able to record my self talking as i am streaming ?? please help cant find answers anywhere. also great amazing video!!! gave u the thumbs up !!!!
Can this capture card handle video signal of 1080p240 when I use display cloning method? I don't want to use passthrough method because I will lose my g-sync on my gaming monitor.
Hey ! Planning to buy this one but it doesnt natively support party audio calture on ps5. Saw from reddit that i might need a hmdi splitter that has 3.5mm jack port for it to work. I dont have much money to try so im trying to google or find people with such setup or has lots of knowledge like you
Does this work with the OSSC for old consoles like the SNES in 5x mode and stuff like that? What's the best capture card to get for the OSSC that's not pci?
They're both the same for 4K60 performance, but this one will let you do 1080p120/1440p120, whereas the HD60 S+ will not do 1440p nor 120hz at any resolution
I hate having to dial back internal settings on my XB1X to 1080 to merely be able to stream at said resolution (I'm currently stuck with a razer ripsaw). I'd prefer the 4k pass through to play at 4k, but be able to stream at 1080/720 60fps. Would this be recommended for XB1X, as such?
Hey. I want to be able play in 4k hdr but stream and record in 1080 60fps is all I want I hav a gaming laptop with a i5 8300 a 1050ti gpu and 16gb ram do you it would work out. This capture card is by far the cheapest most convenient way I see of playing in 4k hdr on ps4 pro. But record and stream in 1080 60fps
I have the live gamer ultra and it plays COD fine in full-screen border less when not cloned to the capture card but as soon as I clone it the FPS is all over the place and it plays like crap. Am I missing something or when cloned can games only run well in full screen mode only?
Being that this video is a couple of years old now I was wondering is this still the best option for 1080 120 pass through with a PS5 and gaming monitor and all that I stream is 1080 60 at most? Any help I would greatly appreciate!
Hey Epos loved the video, I am currently running on a Desktop as my gaming PC (i7-8700 and gtx1070ti), and have a spare laptop which has a gtx970M graphics card. I am planning to start streaming with a dual system setup, would you recommend the Elgato HD60S, Avermedia LGX2 or the Avermedia Live gamer Ultra. I play on a 144Hz monitor on my gaming PC and hope to stream on 1080p60fps, and if possible save some clips as well. What would be the best buy, least problems, etc. (will plan to use OBS) Thanks if you ever get to this comment! edit: or would it be better to get a internal capture card, but I'm worried about the performance hit
Would you say this is the go-to USB option for playing consoles in 4K HDR while capturing 1080p 60fps? The Magewell USB Capture HDMI 4K Plus price just seems even crazier when this exists. With my current setup the flexibility of an external capture card is pretty valuable, and I have no need to capture beyond 1080p60 but don't want to lose out on actually playing in 4k HDR.
Hei nice video! I would like to play on my pc at 1080p 144hz and stream out (through a 2018 MacBook pro) at 1080p 60 hz. Can I do it with this capture card?
This device captures the video quite well from different machines, but I'm having audio issues with the system. I can get system sounds coming through my headset, like this youtube video of course, but I do not seem to be getting any sound coming from the game itself through RECentral and I'm not sure why that is even after fiddling around with a bunch of settings, short of messing up my sound devices. Are there any suggestions on how I can fix this problem? I want to like this device, but this is something that is a major hurdle as what good is the recording if there's no sound that goes into it?
Would u recommend this capture card for someone streaming an xbox one x from a windows 10 software laptop using OBS? Trying to play at 1440p while streaming at either 1080 or 1440 if possible. Thanks.
Considering the rise in Thunderbolt 3 support in recent laptops, I'm hoping we soon see portable TB3 capture cards so we can take advantage of the higher data bandwidth and all the benefits that come with it without resorting to using something like a PCIe dock. Maybe you know of anyone working on something like this?
I'd love to see such a thing, but we never really got much by means of Thunderbolt 2 cards. There was a TB2 version of a couple BlackMagic cards, but they didn't really give better benefits over USB 3 at the time. I'd say they'd be the ones to push it, if anyone. Gaming capture card companies likely won't do it.
That's true about a TB2 dearth, however I feel like TB2 never quite reached the ubiquity TB3 has (at least when it comes to laptops). Hopefully manufacturers see that there is a rising demand for add-on devices that take advantage of these ports that consumers suddenly have at their disposal. Case in point: external GPUs have long been a thing, but only really took off and made it into wider public awareness with TB3.
Well part of that was TB2 being Mac-only and TB3 being more widely available. But with production being a mac world, you'd think there would have been more.
So I bought this Capture Card and everything works UNTIL I start streaming or recording. A few minutes into it and the Capture Card freezes. Tried it with OBS and RECentral, but it freezes all the time and I need to reconnect the card to my PC to use it again. Can someone please help me? I don't know what to do.
All I want to do is passthrough at 1080p120 and stream/capture at 1080p60 for my ps5 through HDMI because I have a Mac for my little setup. And this seems right on the money of what I need.
Do you know of a longer 6ft to 10ft USB A to C cable that will work for this capture card? I've tried 2 different cables a Joto cable www.amazon.com/gp/product/B017COHTJ6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and a Anker cable www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M5GMZ6X/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Neither cable worked any ideas? Only cable that worked was the little 3 footer that comes with it.
EposVox awesome, theyre releasing a new one, the Ninja V. If its what you have im very excited, otherwise ill take what you show and use the info with it
I can't seem to figure out how to get 4k at 23.976fps to passthrough to OBS. In the specs, it shows that resolution marked differently than others without an explanation. Anyone have any info? Sony A7R3, Aver 4k Ultra, Type-c to USB 3.0
hi I hope you see this comment I know the video is old but I hope you can help me. I AVerMedia GC553 all good I have no problem but when I use my Headphone with astro 50 I can listen and talk in party chat on ps4 but obs and REC (the sound is not recorded) if you can help me or make a video tutorial because that is the only thing that I am regretting right now. Thank you
Drivers and software issues is what’s stopping me from buying the new 4K capture cards. I have also heard that aver media support isn’t the best. I want their cards so badly but I am just going to have to wait a bit longer for improvement.
Elgato has paid support staff which makes their support way more effective and friendly for level 1 problem stuff. But have more advanced questions or super niche use cases and... good luck. AVerMedia has you talk directly with their reps or engineers, so it may take a while to hear back but you will usually get a more helpful, hands-on fix to serious issues.
My gaming PC and GC553 are both set to 1440p and 144hz. I'm using dual pc setup and cloned monitor to aver. Games are running at 1440p however when they are running, theres a wierd scaling problem happening. My mouse will move faster than normal and it feels like pc is running at 1080p even though its not.
I'm getting a bunch of scaling issues as well thinking about returning this capture card... did you ever fix it? even after turning off scaling or setting a custom scale still a lot of issues.
@@EposVox I found a deal for a blackmagic video assist, the oldest with mini usb, the sdi is broken, but I only need the hdmi. It can do 1080p60hz, and I can use it on the go, so for 200eur... I bought it so... Anyway, thanks for your help, I appreciate it, and I enjoy the content you make so, thank you very much, and keep up the good work :-)
If you want good hardware encoding in a laptop without needing a discrete GPU. Go for a laptop, with a Ryzen APU. Encoding is one the big leg ups AMD has over Nvidia is that VCE/VCN is much better than NVENC. I say bit for bit VCN pumps out an image that’s nearly indistinguishable from software.
@Dr Duty yes. I have a Lenovo Duel Phone and iPhone 12 Pro Max. in Lenovo, the max FPS are 30 (I don’t know what’s happen) in the iPhone, the max FPS are 60. I have a Intel i9 10900 with 32 gb ram :/
Can someone please answer this question? I have GC553 and it runs like complete shit. washed colors choppy frame rates. I've been told my CP is more than powerful enough to run the card. System requirements ask foe at least NVIDIA GTX 1060. I have 1030. Is this a necessary component for the card to function properly? I'm only capturing from Xbox and PS4. No PC game captures.
I have a question about this card. I play on a 1440p 144hz gaming desktop (9900k/2080ti) and i'm going to use my gaming laptop (i7 8750H/1070maxq/32gb ddr4) as a stream machine. Would this card just slip in between my desktops main 144hz monitor and hooked up with the usb to the stream pc? Sourced into OBS and downscaled to 1080p 60fps. Would this work even with the quirks you mentioned? Its the only external card offering high refresh passthroughs thats somewhat affordable. Thanks in advance Epos!
Hey bud! I’ve got this capture card and run with xbox series X, pc is I7 quad core 2.8 gtx 980 but this capture card freezes in OBS whilst streaming just freezes and have to delete source and re add it to get it to sort itself out, any ideas?
@@watthemichael Did you updated the firmware and all?.. Does it works for ya?. Wich motherboard and CPU and GPU do you own and wich Windows 10 version are you on?
I don't know if you licenced/sold your review to other websites but this website has a review up that is almost word for word how your review was. clanofthehydra.com/avermedia-gc553-live-gamer-ultra-review/
really? allways having trouble with avermedia.....and for the price? i stick to elgato. better price, better performance and much better drivers! even if they sponsor your videos ,you cant turn shit into gold!
Except they don't sponsor my videos. I specify that in every review. And I spend most of the review talking about the driver problems and weird issues.
I sometimes check out your videos for the information, but you repeat yourself a lot and the VHS filter stuff makes things fatiguing to watch. That makes me hesitate to click when I'm searching for something and these pop up.
