Awesome video Joe!! Can't beat Lockport. That is for sure. So much fun!! So pumped to get out fishing with you and Tony tommorow. Going to be an awesome time!!
What these little guys don't have in size they make up for that with numbers. if I was there right now it would be non-stop action all day long. This was just a false run, little early. Cheers brother!
Font is called Facon, I use the picfont website to make my thumbnails. The locals in MB are like 'whatever' when it comes to saugers because they are so plentiful. I think its so cool to get them in numbers because in NW Ontario saugers are rare. They do live here in some lakes and rivers but walleye outnumber them 1000:1. Last time I caught a sauger in Ontario was in 2014!!!
Haha serious!?!? I've caught some of those big cats on a medium rod and that takes 5 minutes to bring in a master sized fish. I would see myself getting spooled with the UL LOL. Props to you for doing that. That is insane! Cheers!
Have you ever fished the red when the drum and white bass are running ? It's super fun casting for them and your arm get sore after catching a bunch of big drums 😆
I've caught drum in the Red during summer but never fished there much in the spring. I didnt know white bass was really a thing in the Red River, I know the Pine Falls/Winnipeg River has them. That is where I was thinking about fishing for them. Do you catch lots of white bass there or just the odd one between drum?
How would you know what day I was there? LOL. Yes for sure we will fish together! You know I've never tried casting lures in the Red in May. Someone commented saying white bass and drum run up there in the spring. I've fished for cats and goldeye early in the season but never with lures. Another spot I've always wanted to hit was Pine Falls and Winnipeg River.
Have you ever fished for the big cats from your kayak in that location ? I have a Hobie P.A that I would like to fish from if the current isn't to dangerous .
I've thought about it. Probably will try that in the future. The current varies year to year and on the season. There was so much snow last winter and rain this summer that the water in the Red is still high. Most years if you go peak catfish season (mid-September) the current should be very manageable I would think. For me I think I need to install the pole anchor first on the back of the yak, The conventional anchor I use now is at the front of the kayak. I think I would want to face downstream while fighting those cats. Cheers!
