This saw has performed great. The only feature I was really concerned about was having a good fence and this does. I make a lot of patio furniture and stuff like that. I rip boards down to size mostly. I use my miter saw for crosscuts it just seems faster.

I have room in my shop for a full sized saw, but I like that this saw is portable, I can always build a bench for it when I use it in the shop, then if I need it closer to the house for a project I have that option too.

I am a cabinet installer by trade and have used all kinds of 10" table saws over the 28 years I have been doing this. In the past few years, I have switched into a management role and only do minor service now. Not to mention I drive a Ford Transit Connect and there isn't a lot of room for a full-size table saw with a stand. This saw is perfect for everything I do. I am glad Dewalt came out with this as it is a great saw with a lot features, as you pointed out.

I have a couple other job site saws from a small/ight but decent 'enough' Craftsman/Ryobi beater to a nicer full sized Bosch and? This saw largely handles ease of mobility and a finess cut admirably, when you're used to it's very minor do's and Don'ts. In the end it handles a broad range of work well to excellent, with stable and predictable outcomes after learning yourself with the saw as with most things. (A modern classic with almost a cult like following from homeowners to the trades and it's earned.) If I was to add anything beyond that? It would be to say. The new 8 1/2 inch blade UL safety based format has real positives both in safety and smooth cut.

Love this unit. My only complaint was with the packaging. When you set the box down, upright, and open the box you're left wondering how to get it out. The aluminum bar facing up is too flimsy to pull so I flipped it over and slid the box off. Now you can access the instructions that tell you how to get it out of the box. Odd thing is that the box would have to be upside down to grab the handle as instructed. Pretty small issue but I never understood why manufacturers put unboxing instructions in the box, hidden from view.

Just picked up the 10 inch DeWalt and DWE7491RS for $529 onsale ....like having a larger rip cut and that it comes with a stand that if sold separately is $170 so saw comes out to $360. Basically same saw if you don't use the stand in weight. Feels about the same weight as my Ridgid portable job site if not on the stand. I do love the compact size of the 8 1/2 inch. Either way great saws. I think the cordless job site DeWalt would be my next choice. Thank you for your video. Helped me figure out where the blade guard gets stored.

It's not a cabinet maker saw for its small size and decent price it's a real Workhorse.

In terms of storage features it's good but not perfect..I made space on mine for a couple of spare blades.. whats excellent about this model is it's portability. In transit the blade can be fully retracted and the fence stored under the top.. for guys with smaller vans who want an accurate saw not short on power this is worth considering..some guys won't like the small table size but with a portable outfeed table it really suits my needs.. I mainly fit custom kitchens and bathrooms in the UK..

Great review. I am considering replacing my old 1951 cast iron craftsman. I am still not sure if I can live with out ability to install a dado set. I wonder if it would take just the two outside blades of a dado set? that would add up to 1/4" I think. Probably just fine for as often as I need to cut one. What do you think?
@MarkThomasBuilder
@MarkThomasBuilder 3 года назад
Haha, what's funny is that I inherited that same cast iron saw and used to run dado blades on it. I'm not sure about any dado blades on this Dewalt, but for everything else, it's a great saw. I'd say the mitre gauge is decent and not loose enough to concern me. I have a Kreg Precision Miter Gauge that's still in the box and something I plan to review soon. I hope it's a good investment, but we'll have to wait and see.

Thanks for the table info. I'm just concerned that it doesn't bend or some crazy thing like that. Ideally it would be nice to have a solid table, but then that would defeat the portability option from weight. Thanks again.

I'm fairly new to woodworking and decided I need a table saw. I just can't figure out if I should get this or slurge for the 10" that accommodates dado blades. To be honest, I don't even know if I'd use them, but at lease I'd have the option. The 10" is currently $230 more, so that's not pocket change.

Dado blades are a great tool to have, but I notice that I don't use them much, but on occasion. I had a project the other day where I could've used them, but I found another way to accomplish the same thing. A few years ago when I tested out a 8-1/4 table saw for the first time, I thought it would go back to my 10" saw, but I was wrong. The 8-1/4 has worked well on my type of woodworking projects. Hope that helps.

I currently have this saw, it cuts really well but for taller cuts I am not a fan of flipping the wood to make it all the way through. I honestly don't know if the 10 inch one would be any better then this. I have limited space at my house and use it for wood working projects not at job sites. Do you recommend the 10 inch version or should I keep this one
@MarkThomasBuilder

I've found that 95% of the time, I don't rip anything that's too thick, needing to be flipped over. If it's that thick, I'd still need to flip it on the 10" saw. I really like the 8-1/4 saw and would stick with that one, if it were me.

I'm just testing out my first battery powered table saw right now. That review will be out soon. I'd go battery power if you can afford it. The 8-1/4 blade size seems like the popular choice lately.

As a field saw? This saw does. It has the same features and the smaller blade lends itself to naturally making smoother cuts with trim. Add to that it being available in a now tried and true FlexVolt version? Our bigger tools tend to be left in a dedicated shop area, and these get hauled into areas for piece work and trim. (Anymore the norm is to have these, a panel saw track, and a full size saw for list cutting and heavier framing.) Smartly purchased as to your need? You can mix and match for everything very affordably. These little saws are amazing (and really efficient compared to the first powerful Makita.....still appreciate those little beasts).

You know? There are a few truly decent 8 1/4 inch job site saws out there at this point but? Dewalt fairly much set the bar for everyone else to emulate in job site saws in general, and even though I run a full size job site saw, it is not ‘one hand’ portable and the smoothness and rpm of cut is an important aspect of these saws (especially for trim work). My world of finish work dictates that this saw is better than a 10 inch version with only one real caveat (smaller table top dimension). However I have the simplest of in-feed and out-feed solutions in place that have made this a non-issue with all setups. (All you have to do is McGuyver a bit with what you probably already have in place on site.) Even though I don’t yet own this saw, I have used them and the deciding factors for purchasing it soon is three fold. Proven fence system, fair pricing, smooth torque (rather than immediate aggressive torque that chips laminate hard surfaces....flooring, MDF White Board etc.). Plus? I have never heard anyone have much to say that disparages this family of Dewalt saw on the whole.
@MarkThomasBuilder
@MarkThomasBuilder 3 года назад
I'm sure you'll be glad to own this saw. I wasn't sure if the size of the blade was enough, but I can definitely say now that it's a perfect size. I like how portable this is.

@MarkThomasBuilder

The arbor on it isn't long enough to add the extra blades on it. For instance, the dado stack of blades I often use are 4 blades wide. Check out this video that covers Dado blades on the M18 saw, which has a longer arbor. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bKGERpi2tYo.html. Does that help with your question?

The fence is easy to push. I normally cut 3/4" hardwood and 1.5" pine. I would think this would have plenty of power for your 50mm beech.
