In this week’s video, I set-up my new Dewalt DWE7485 Table Saw. I perform a complete safety check, and walkthrough the main features of the table saw. This includes doing an initial test cut to see how it performs out of the box. This table saw is designed for a 8-1/4 inch blade and comes with a matching riving knife. I will need to build a new workstation for this table saw but that will be the next week’s video. NOTE: THIS VIDEO IS NOT SPONSORED. THE TABLE SAW WAS PURCHASED OUT OF MY OWN POCKET AND WHAT YOU ARE SEEING IS AN UNBIASED REVIEW. Happy 2021!

Hello Friends! Happy New Year! I want to mention that this is not a sponsored review. I bought this table saw with my own money over the holidays. It was $90 off the retail price. I paid $395 for it, which is considered a good deal where I live. Normally you will see these retail at around $485 - $495. At any rate, well worth the money for the quality of the tool. Enjoy this set-up video.

Just bought this saw based on your review. It is my very first table saw, so approached it with equal amounts of fear and excitement :-) I really like the fence system as it seems very accurate and stable. It cuts like a dream with the standard all purpose blade. Havent tried another blade yet.

Really appreciated this video! I just picked one up myself since my wife and I are remodeling our bathroom which means framing etc. I am new to table saws and was slightly confused by the instructions. Especially on zeroing in the measure but your video made it easy to line up the guide with the blade. Cheers and thanks for this!

I got one of these a few months ago (couldn’t say no to $280 from Amazon) and it’s my first table saw ever. A terrifying tool but this one seems high quality (I’ve used Bosch, Skil and other Dewalt’s before) and the fence is very good. Really look forward to your zero-clearance for this. The stock plate is quite large for edge banding purposes.

I have a very small shop as well, and have been putting off buying another table saw primarily because of space limitations (I had a larger Delta a number of years ago). After viewing your table saw mobile station video, the light bulb popped over my head and I went out to buy this DeWalt. So far I’m quite impressed. Within its limitations, this is a powerful and precise tool. I am particularly impressed with the fence system, which is more square and accurate than many more expensive table saw fences. I’ll be building the saw station this week and look forward to getting on to the projects I’ve been deferring.

I had the Ryobi jobsite saw that your Ridgid is based on. looks almost the same but it it blue instead of orange. I loved it but after 15 years it was getting a little tired. I bought the 8 1/4 Dewalt to replace it. It is great it is way more easy to take to a jobsite and for all but the largest cuts it works great. I have had it about 8 months. I almost bought the 60v version but I didn't have any of those batteries and I already have four battery brands to worry about. Now I want to install an inverter and big battery in the truck. A big part of the reason I bought this was because of you using smaller blades in your other table saw. And realized I almost never needed a 10 inch blade on a table saw.

I appreciate your review of this saw because I went to Lowe’s and bought the identical one. I’ve watched your video a few times already. One thing is the motor has a whine sound when it is plugged in. It starts fine and runs strong. No other issues that I know at this time.

Hey Eric, thanks for the great review of this table saw. I also have the 10" version of this saw and I have built a zero clearance throat plate. For the locking mechanism I 3D printed one from a design I found on Thingiverse. I also swapped out the stock mitre gauge for the Incra 1000SE.

Great video Eric!! I got my 7485 from HD on veterans day with the vets 10% discount. I love this saw. It was almost perfectly adjusted right out of the box. The blade is parallel to the miter slot and the fence to the blade. It has all the power one would need, I have used it to re-saw 4" wide oak boards like a hot knife through butter. Also swapped out the miter gauge for a Incra V120. I have been considering several designs for a mobile bench/saw stand with outfeed table and look forward to seeing what your design looks like. Thanks for sharing.

What the advantages (other than blades cost less) of the 8/14" over a 10"? I have a Grizzly G0869 - 10" 2 HP Benchtop Table Saw which I bought last year for $375 (with a promotion of free shipping). It seems to have all the same features (rack and pinion fence in particular which for me was a "must have") and a couple of nice "pluses" such as soft-start, adjustable table extension at the back to support longer work pieces and variable speed which allows me to cut plastics without melting. It also has a larger table but maybe that is a disadvantage for some. The Dewalt has a better STOP switch which is much smaller on the Grizzly. I needed customer support (how to adjust the trunnions) and was very pleased with the responses.

Did you ever have a chance to run this with a Diablo .059 kerf for 7.25" blades for through cuts? The riving knife says 0.063 so I assume it will be okay. It looks a bit high to attempt cutting a slot.

I have the DeWalt 745 mobile table saw. Ive had it for about 3 years and it is a work horse. I thought about getting the newer 748 model but there's not much difference between the two. The miter gauge on the 748 has pre-drilled holes to make a cross cut sled, the 745 has holes too but in a different location. The on/off button is a little different on the 748. The arbor on the 745 is short and will not accommodate a dado blade.
@EricSorensenCanada
@EricSorensenCanada 3 года назад
Many manufacturers do not allow for a dado stack on the arbor. I think it's because it negates all the safety features that come with the saw.
@Yerevan1964
@Yerevan1964 3 года назад
Thanks for the post. A question, please: When you measured the 1", was it from the fence to the inside edge of the carbide tip of the blade?
@EricSorensenCanada
@EricSorensenCanada 3 года назад
You measure from the inside edge of the protruding tooth. That is what produces the kerf.

How do you handle the dust collection on the dwe7485? I need an adapter to reduce the output to fit my shop vac (1-1/4 hose)
@EricSorensenCanada
@EricSorensenCanada 3 года назад
It turns out my ridgid vacuum hose fits the dust port perfectly. Adapters are easy to find in hardware stores or you could just use pvc pipe and make your own. This table saw has a two-port dust extraction system. It has a smaller port on the blade guard, which in theory, would capture half the dust. The problem is you need a split hose system or two dust extractors to make use of it.

What made you decide to switch away from the Ridgid? I’m in the market for a new table saw and don’t have much space, so I was looking at getting the r4514 with the rolling stand for 350. Would I regret it?
@EricSorensenCanada
@EricSorensenCanada 3 года назад
I have a similar Ridgid, but mine is 10 years old. I decided to change to a compact table saw with a smaller blade , since I was already using a 7-1/4" blade in my Ridgid table saw. I wanted a matching riving knife as well. I had some buyer's remorse with the Ridgid. I brought my first one back because there were issues with the arbor. The bevel adjustment on the Ridgid was a pain. Overall, the Dewalts have a better fit and finish when you compare them to other brands. As for the rolling stand; its made for job site situations. I personally found the saw was a bit low for me and there was no elegant way to implement an out-feed solution. So my decision was to not buy another rolling stand but to instead build a custom rolling cabinet that will do more. You will see that cabinet in next week's video.

At the front of the saw, just below where the wrenches attach, and right by the motor, you will see the Anti-Kickback Pawls. They look like little black claws. They are hard to spot at first. They attach to your rip guard assembly.

I don’t like the 8.5” blade. Seems odd size, what would a replacement blade cost?
@EricSorensenCanada
@EricSorensenCanada 3 года назад
They make a 8-1/4 and 8-1/2. Mine is the 8-1/4. I haven't measured the thickness yet, but you could probably swap it out with a 7-1/4" blade and still use the riving knife, but I have yet to test that theory. If it works, the 7-1/4" blades are much cheaper. The 8-1/4 or 8-1/2 are supposed to replace the 10 inch blades eventually. The odd size means that they will be able to charge the same as they do for the 10" blades. Some of this is safety and the other half is tool company marketing.
