Died with that superchat that said ¨yo, you are a fantastic streamer and an even better youtuber. My sub has already lasted longer than my marriage and I´m happier with you anyway¨ It do be like that, my friend
Reconstructive Teleport is so good, not needing to heal after teleporting just makes fights go a lot smoother, and makes retreats more tactical. Specially with a fully upgraded teleport system.
34:12 it's usefull to purge all oxygen from your ship except for any rooms that crew are stationed in while you're in one of these fights. Remeber, the pitch black nothingness of the infinite cosmic void is your friend and ally.
I kind of go through a check list of priorities in FTL combat. 1. Disable evasion and escape. Usually that mean targeting the pilot. A breach bomb is great for this the small room makes it a harder to repair and they can't fix the helm till the breach is fixed. 2. Pierce the shields. It's difficult to target anything while the shield are up so it is one of the best ways to do defend. You would think it the highest priority but if you have a way to disable evasion, collapsing shields is a lot easier. 3. Disable weapons. This is really about keeping yourself alive. If their weapons aren't a threat you can more to the next step. 4. Kill the crew. This step depends on the ship. If you can't keep them from doing damage (acceptable damage) then you'll have to destroy the vessel. Some of the best ways to kill the crew involves disabling O2 and Medbay. Fire and breaches make it a lot easier. The biobeem has a really great trait that is easily overlooked. It doesn't damage the ship. There is no change that the biobeem blows up your prize. Dead crew is always good so despite its short comings the biobeem can be very good especially early when it only takes one other weapon to take down shields. It never misses either so once you through the shields you can injure crew with no reprocussions.
The moment around hour and fifty where you completely overlook the existence of zoltan shield bypass, saying everything in the store is doodoo, and then run up against a zoltan shield in the next encounter.
'challenge. See the entire ship without sensors. Owns. 6 crew. Fights. Ship with 5 rooms and oxygen. Has. Teleporter. Doesn't shuffle crew to accomplish task. Feels bad.
2:25:30 - "just one store, god, please" - literally seconds after declining a store due to the merchant's race XD (... Also, YOU are a slug ship in this playthrough lol)
44:18 And I quote. "In the words of 'KURT COBAIN' "whoops.. oof oof oof.." - AmbiguousAmphibian (rofl im dead, he's dead, ah man you cant write this stuff)
The whole reason the breach bomb exists is to open breaches in the ship. Those will *very* quickly reduce the O2 content in the enemy ship and if the O2 is off, kill the crew. That plays in to the damage from the anti-bio beam.
37:41 it's often more effecient to target the enemy's piloting system, rather than their engines. NPC ships will usually have several power bars in their engine system, and while damaging their engines will slow down their FTL drive's charge speed, it's usually very difficult to completely shut down. Piloting systems on the other hand, usually only have a single power bar. Therefore it's very easy to completely shut down, and ( as you may have noticed on your own ship ) once piloting is no longer functional, both the FTL drive charge, and all evasion stops working until it's repaired. This can also be very good generally. If you're facing a particularly evasive enemy. Just get a hit in on their piloting system, and their evasion will drop to zero.
I was a lot more tilted at the combat at 50:00. The ship had _nothing_ that could get through both layers of his shields, but he was still wasting missiles on breach bombs and acting like he _didn't_ have all the time in the world to leisurely kill the crew. :)
Looks like there were lots of opportunities to Mind Control the guy in the largest room and then biobeam all of them when they were clumped together fighting him XD
I know these videos don't have as much traction as other content but I really hope you pick up ftl again and use some of the ships you never played. You got me back into ftl, and I'm slowly working my way up the difficulty ladder and unlocking new ships. Thanks for reminding me about this awesome game.
Man this slugspicious run was fantastic to watch. I hope you can speedrun through the rest of the ships, I would like to see the vods even if you lose. With love
I don't think I ever beat the end boss of this game when I first played it years ago, then after watching you beat it a couple times I picked the game up again and immediately won with both the kestrel and the Engi ship. Would definitely like to see you try out the FTL multiverse mod, it's essentially an unofficial sequel.
Listening to you bash anti-bio beam while you waste it on their shields is... frustrating. It's a crew-killing ship. Use breach and laser to disable shields and O2, then beam the suffocating crew, particularly anyone trying to fix O2.
He only figures out you get more scrap for capturing ships intact 23 minutes into this run, I think he’ll understand it better with more experience but this is the only time I’ve wanted to backseat drive something he streamed haha
oh god hacking the shields followed by fire beaming the mantis trapped in there. It can't put out fires or repair systems fast, and its burning the whole time. What a combo, just with one weapon and one hack.
39:17 I am offended, sir. This freaking sussy frog dares to say that fire beam isn't literally the single best weapon in the game? You have clearly never experienced the sublime joy of watching your enemy's faces melt off in an incandescent, purgatorial inferno of devouring hellfire. You have clearly never danced and cackled in rapturous suplication before the hypnotic, eternal gyre of that bright, roaring abyss. I spit on you, and all you hold sacred. Or, I would, but that would potentially cause you to no longer be on fire. And that is so fundamentally against my core beliefs, that to do so would be the worst sort of blasphemy. Everything must be on fire. At all times. Even the fire must be on fire. Until all of space and time is nothing but an infinite hellscape of polluted, suppurating light.
In my experience the anti-bio beam was never that good. In combination with a teleporter it can be good for killing crew. But it's usually better to just to replace it with something else.
@@rhinehard206 The anti-hull double-shot laser is the most efficient gun if you're trying to kill crew. It can get through shields, and the breaches suffocate most crew. It also stops robot ships from repairing, so it's a really good all-around weapon, in addition to killing crew. Bio-beam is too slow, for a weapon that needs others to deal with shields.
@rhine hard yeah but it also takes up space which could be used for weapons which can pierce shields. Anti-bio is great but it's also a very niche weapon, overall I'd perfer a laser or something else in place of this. At the end of the day whether you think the weapon is good or not is dependent on your preference. I can see cases where it could work, but it's just not how I play the game most of the time.
A no pause run is ridiculously hard. I think I managed to get to the second sector when I tried it, as it was just too much to manage and I got unlucky with what I encountered. I also tried a no pause run with the stealth ship. I lasted about 6 minutes, and barely made any jumps.
Only big improvements you can do to your gameplay, IMO: -Understand the weapons and if you should prioritize taking them down cuz they'll harm you; or not if their weapons cannot, and maybe not waste too many resources since you'llhave a safe fight. Sometimes I leave my game running just farming shields and engine/pilot skills -find what synergies are best for the gameplay you're after. I love teleporting crew to flagship's missiles as soon as I enter the fight, and if you can't maybe you've picked up cloak system specifically to counter the missiles specifically
Almost everything new you play looks so fun - STOP MAKING ME SPEND MONEY LMFAO (nevermind this is Faster Than Light and I forgot that I have this and have played this many times, I just haven't played it in like 6-9 years). But as I watch this I have a 500-year-old world generating in dwarf fortress. You FORCED me to buy that with your hyping lol. Don't get me wrong I'm glad you did, but I had no idea they modernized Dwarf Fortress until I saw you playing it. Looks epic. Can't wait to start. It's on year 215 and there about 500,000 historical events already and about 50,000 historical figures. This is going to be insane! Great channel, I try to comment and like every video. Your longer videos are good background stimulation for everyday life. Entertaining enough to hold my attention but so long that I could keep them playing in the background while I do other things without feeling like i'm missing out.
AA you totally got me stuck on FTL again. I beat it 3 times on easy already, now I unlocked some cool ships and try normal. I hope you get back into it, try the stealth ship sometime, it's super fun.
uff... so many missplays here. You killed me the moment you decided to ignore reconstructive teleportation perk when your whole strategy revolves around sending your fighters in.
It's so weird seeing someone who does not already have all hotkeys seared into their muscle memory, does not already know the statistical distribution of all event outcomes and all blue text choices, and does not have the hundreds of hours of combat experience nessecary to completely dismantle their enemies with nothing but a hacking system and fire weaponry.
"im not a fan of drones" next fight.. "gotta target their Drone control, right away" these two statements directly contradict each other.... also "need to have more reliable systems" drones=super reliable... flak=super reliable... buying teleporter when you're ages away from even trying to use it, also without sensors so you can't even direct your teleported crewman to attack effectively=negative reliability x 10... you really should be listening to those offering knowledgeable and effective advice which you ignore to go with poor decisions
You are commiting to 3 plans at the same time. If you commit to killing oppodents crew, hack their medic room. If you intend to kill the ship then go for shields. You teleport your crew and then hack shields, why?
AAAAAAAHHHHHHH I know too much about this game to enjoy watching him. I can't do secondhand cringe and listening to his decisions and commentary is really making me struggle with it.
There is little to no reason to get second level oxygen. You need to focus on engine, shield and weapons more and try and sit on about 120 scrap. You hinge alot on your extra systems but should reply on your actual ship more. It's what makes the ships different. Winning with cloak, hacking, boarding or drones does show off how the different ships have their own styles. You should try the multiverse mod. It's the vanilla expanded for rimworld except for FLT. There is so much that should just flat be in the game from multiverse. It's an amazing project.
I'd agree, with the caveat that if you have expendable scrap then upgrading the o2 is a great idea. On it's own it's useless, but a stray shot hitting o2 can cause unnecessary complications if you are already dealing with more pressing issues.
disagree on the oxygen, it's not a high priority at all, but having two bars will save you from certain bad encounters Hard agree on trying Multiverse though, it's great. :)
You passed up the Flak lol, you can't say you haven't had anything though it's been light. You aren't using the Bio beam at this point and you can't rely on finding a few select weapons
It’s a shame you slept on flak, the two flak 1 cannons you passed up would have made the auto ships much easier to handle, and you can spam flak to shred the shields and then target systems with your laser. Two flak 1s are super cheap to run and charge quickly too and make up to 6 hits
