This stuff is pretty well known by the more advanced players in the community and I thought it would be a good idea to share this information with everyone before the next big guide comes out. Hope you all like it!
Tbh, not really, i discovered it acidentally when i kept exploding aginst enemies and not recovering hp, then i doscovered i infact sucked at parrying and was doing pro boosts all the time xD
"Yeah, alright, I know how to do Projectile Boosting and Shotgun parries..." *Demonstrates shotgun parrying King Minos' fist* "... you can do that? Wait, of course you can do that."
it was touched on during the shotgun parry section, when mentioning you can parry with the overpump, while important it's not much of a bulletpoint on its own since there's nothing deeper to divulge
I know, but outside of showing a clip and briefly mentioning it, he does not explain how it is performed. You could probably infer that it involved dashing from the clip, but someone might not understand, they might not even know that dashing makes you invincible.
> Watch videos on Ultrakill > Don't wanna spoil myself too much, so watch most muted > Shotgun-punch-explosion sequence repeats several times > "It can't be a coincidence" > Finally get Ultrakill > Remember that video > I wonder if... > Get the timing right first time > HOLY SHIT YOU CAN PUNCH YOUR OWN SHELLS > Spam the move and get absolutely destroyed by basically every boss > Notice the "Fresh weapon" boost on the right > Get my first Ultrakill after switching rapidly between weapons to test it out > Killing feels faster > "I wonder if the shotgun..." > Spam E while firing the shotty > HOLY SHIT IT WORKS And that's the story of how I beat Ultrakill with shotgun swaps only
This is probably my favorite fps shotgun, just because of the perfectly tuned skill ceiling and the fact it basically becomes a rocket launcher with some practice.
Even though this game has 4 guns, it's still has more depth than your average shooter sporting 15-20 different guns. Actually, I think that's WHY it's so in depth, the variability of each weapon is immense. I find myself constantly trying new things, and there's still SO MUCH I don't know about this game. Masterpiece.
yeah, while i was trying to P rank 3-1 i tried chargebacking one of the laser blasts from a malicious face with a coin but ended up reflecting an orb projectile with said coin idk if i was just tripping or if what i saw was real but it was weird as hell
Most modern shooters just have 20 assault rifles or some other weapon class and all behave mostly the same. Thats why I love arena shooters so much, they make sure their arsenals are small with very little overlap and every weapon and item is as unique as it gets. Good example of this going wrong is PAYDAY: The Heist, which has 13 unique guns that all behave differently and are viable in their own way. PAYDAY 2, the sequel, has over 100 guns and only 10 of them are worth using.
So THAT's why I've been feeling so inconsistent with Faces - I seemed to either be melting them in two clean swaps, or they seemed to be made of solid diamond and nothing in between. Thanks so much for this!
2:06 this knowledge has blown my mind so much. I had always assumed that I was just being inconsistent with my melee presses and that was why I would start meleeing slower.
at last, a video covering the difference between shotgun tech and shotgun parry, heres hoping theres a bit less confusing terms now. great guide as always!
@@sharpneedle6063 I might venture to say that something needs to happen there. It's a shame that half your arsenal is kinda pointless because the Shotgun is a shotgun that is also a rocket launcher that is also a sniper that is also a machinegun. But at the same time... god, it would be a damn, crying shame if they nerfed the shotty. So maybe they need to buff the others! YES, MORE CARNAGE.
@@sharpneedle6063 Malicious definitely isn't useless. You can shoot a Core Eject with the Malicious Cannon to set off a a fucking NUKE! Screwdriver is bad. No two ways around that. Unless you're bad at healing somehow. Nailgun... Wouldn't say it's useless. It's nowhere near as capable of the Single Target DPS shotguns are capable of in a perfect player's hand but it's still good for new players and the overheat will always be a good utility.
The triple proboost reminds me of Vergil’s just judgement cuts from DMC5 -strict timing -loads of damage -can only do three in a row -involves drawing your weapon many times
Ever since I learned how to projectile boost with the shotgun I can't stop doing it. Launching a projectile boosted shotgun blast into a group of enemies is one of the single most satisfying things ever put into an FPS game.
Honestly... i was scrolling trough ultrakill videos when i saw a speedruner doing projectile boosting, and then i tought "you can parry your own shotgun shots? " so then i started up the game, got the hang of it in a few minutes and it just opened up my mind to the world of possibilities you can do with projectile boosting.
Holy crap dude, just learned how to projectile boost today because of this vid. And then I proceeded to FINALLY get P rank on 1-4 and 3-2 because of this technique finally giving me the style points I needed, in the same day. Thank you so much, it was actually gamechanging.
Love your videos and this game cause every time you put out a new one, even after having 50 h in the game, theires always a "YOU CAN DO WHAT..." moment.
Great video, I've really been enjoying your content. I do have 1 very minor criticism, the static used when transitioning can be pretty loud - therefore jarring, might just be my sensitive ears. Anyways, thanks for the information, it's gonna really come in handy!
Casual reminder that the input for shotgun parries is extremely simple and forgiving if you do it pretty fast. It's just, shoot. Then parry. It will always fail if you press the parry button before shooting. It is quite forgiving, as long as you remember the input.
DOOM Eternal and custom Keybinds + 12 Side buttons mouse prepared me for like, 1/4 of the game. Nice to see it has so much depths. Didn't know about the 3 consecutive max.
for projectile boost, you just had to press the punch button right after you shot. Its like you making a shotgun in Ultrakill into an unexpectedly alternate Rocket Launcher through shotgun basically.
Oh boy I spent some much time trying to projectile boost the secondary fire button, I managed to master the timing and for some reason it still never worked, you can imagine how focking dumb I felt to discover it's the primary fire button, now I'm addicted to doing that every 5 seconds, it's just so satisfying to time and parry your own shot into a instant explosion where you're aiming, one of my favorite ULTRAKILL mechanics for sure.
i'm not late for the video nice (and theres a glitch of the nailgun overheat which sometimes you get a free 3rd overheat if you switch on the right time)
Proboost is very cool. I even killed V2 on 1-4 with Violent difficulty with just proboosting. I also accidentally parried some of V2's shotgun pellets while I was trying to perform a projectile boost (I understood it because of the +PARRY in the style window), but it's pretty much the same as the proboost but it heals you.
Hey this is my second comment and i found out something while testing the triple projectile boost, k so you should always start with the normal shotgun because if you use pump first you have less chances of hitting the other projectile boost, you can also hold m1 but getting a triple is harder that way so you kind of just has to get a double, another thing the shotgun parry can sometime do weird stuff like get you out of bounds (i was testing shotgun parry on sword machine i got stuck in a wall and when i did a shotgun pary i clipped trough the wall and the boss door was forever open, also sorry for bad english)
When I first played ULTRAKILL I did one of these by accident then spent the next like 2 hours in sandbox trying to figure out what the hell I did For me I did it into a group of enemies by accident and it felt awesome. It was visible on my face how cool I thought that was and then was determined to learn it
I think you shouldve covered overloading the green variant and nuking with the blue variant. One of the coolest mechanics in game is definetly railguning your eject granade. In cyber grind it can almkst clear out the entire area
Just noticed that when you fire the knuckle blaster you can quickly use the wiplash to skip the pump Animation and you can do this three times in a row.
not sure if its very useful but with the nail gun you can shoot the standard fire swap to the overheat use the battery and before it run out of battery you can swap the standard nail gun and continue shooting that swap back and forth between over heat and the standard fire without finishing off the battery
To make proboost easier, rebind punch to Mouse4. It is much easier to pinch your fingers on one hand with the right timing than to coordinate both hands.
I figured out the projectile boosting by myself a while ago. For some reason it’s an instinctual thing, if I focus on the clicking I miss, if I just want to projectile boost I do it naturally. It’s so weird.
is it alright to think the shotgun parry and shotgun swapping is a little bit cheesy? i know they exist and know how to use them but i feel kinda dirty using them, even if hakita has retroactively made them intended mechanics.
I watched tons of stuff about Ultrakill before even buying it but even I never knew that Shotgun Parries could be so useful since I never could pull it off. I did read about using a 2 charge shot + one regular at close range to kill a Maurice, but I never knew it was because of the shotgun parry damage. Also, does a shotgun parry work at close range when parrying their beam attack (You can parry their beam attack at point blank before it fires and they'll cause an explosion, dealing major damage to everything around and also presumably themselves)
i didnt really know shotgun parrying was a thing until my rematch with v2, i somehow parried his attach while also p-boosting the shot, idk if the game registered both parries (shotgun and arm) but it did a shit load of damage to him, i managed to clear the first phase almost instantly, i really wish i had recorded that
I find that triple p-boosting is hardly needed. I parry the overpump, quickswap to core eject, eject the core, swap back, repeat. I feel this is much more consistent and reliable when jumping around everywhere in cybergrind
Imagine me, my first time playing, I picked violent difficulty, first time fighting King minos, lost about 23 times already trying to only ¨4 coin railcannoning¨ him as it is the strongest thing I know, get my ass whopped ¨fuck it, ill see that shotgun shit¨ I beat him 3 tries after, making multiple succesful projectile boosts while the video plays in the background. I beat him in my 26th attempt ¨wait... wasnt that like kinda easy? I think I got a little good at this, YO I GOT KINDA GOOD!¨ Man, you are a life saver. I think i might finally understand this game, when i went to finish the game i read the challenge ¨parry king minos's fist¨ and at the exact same time i heard in the background video ¨You can even parry King minos fist¨, shouldve just waited
