In this video, we will take a look at my new ultralight fishing rod and reel combo. It is the Daiwa Revros LT 1000 spinning reel paired with the Daiwa Presso ultralight fishing rod. I'm really loving this setup. It's so much fun!

Excellent detailed overview of this Daiwa -paired ultralight rod and reel combo. 9.9 ounces for everything including the line is insane. I love the split cork handles too, Chris. Very comfortable to hold and grip. Thank for sharing!

Very nice combo. I completely agree about its aesthetics and loving the sound of that drag tick when a fish fights and digs. The 2lb test is tough to go with since I already have too many issues with line twist on 4lb mono. 🎣
@pistolcreek
@pistolcreek 10 месяцев назад
Yes, the 2lb has some drawbacks. The sensitivity and casting is amazing, but if you accidentally hook a big bass, very hard to land if there is any brush to hang up on. I have been using 4lb on my reels more lately. In the Fall, when fishing for crappie from a boat, the 2lb does well. I’ve been wondering what 10lb braid would fish like? Have you ever tried braid? I haven’t.
@msmascare
@msmascare 10 месяцев назад
The only braid I have is 50lb test on my medium heavy Pflueger Monarch baitcaster combo. For my ultralights, I have 6lb and 4lb mono SOS line from trout magnet. Their mono line is strong, but it is prone to line twist. Maybe you should do a video with light braid tied to a fluoro leader on your new ultralight?
@pistolcreek
@pistolcreek 10 месяцев назад
That’s a good idea! I haven’t tried SOS line yet. I usually use Berkley Vanish Fluorocarbon 2lb or 4lb on my reels. I like it a lot. I may pick a spool of braid up and test it out.

@pistolcreek
@pistolcreek 18 дней назад
You might try using a lighter fishing line with this combo. Something 6lb test or under. Another thing that helps keep your line from tangling on a spinning reel, is flipping the bell with your hand after each cast instead of flipping it with the handle. Hope this helps.

I have a Revros LT combo, but it's a 6'6" medium so it is not ideal for panfishing but I like it for throwing small whopper ploppers for largemouth. I have 20lb power pro braid on it.
@pistolcreek
@pistolcreek 10 месяцев назад
Yes! The rod that came with the Revros is nice. I bought it for panfishing, but like you, decided it was better for tossing small crank baits and spinners. The Presso is very nice for panfish, though. I have never tried braid. Is it difficult to get used to?
@ArcherB
@ArcherB 10 месяцев назад
I like braid and fluorocarbon, but really the only reason I use braid for panfish is the smaller diameter. Braid is not hard to get used to on spinning setups in my opinion.

This rod looks really cool. And i want to get my first ultralight setup. Would you recommend this for a urban canal fisher? Fishing for Redfin perch?
@pistolcreek
@pistolcreek 2 месяца назад
The Presso 5’6 and Daiwa Revros 1000 is a fantastic setup for that use. Another great rod in this same size is the Bass Pro Shops Micro Lite Graphite 5’6. If you are looking to pick a nice starter Ultralight combo up, I’d consider the Shimano Sienna combo. Walmart and a few other stores carry the combo for around $52 or so. Great little Ultralight setup for the price. Any of these will be really enjoyable for urban creek or pond fishing. Depending on the size of the fish you are targeting, using either 2 or 4 lb test line will be a difference maker, as the thinner line allows you to cast small lures farther and provides more sensitivity. All that said… if you do decide on the Daiwa combo, I think you will love it. So nice!

@pistolcreek
@pistolcreek 22 дня назад
Those are great buys! I have a QZ-750, too. It’s a nice little reel for something so tiny. The folding handle with the cork knob is a nice feature. That thin diameter braid should work out nicely. Thanks for watching!
@Bovined.
@Bovined. 19 дней назад
@@pistolcreek For sure, definitely going to need something thin. I use sufix 832, its thin strong and true to its diameter according to tests from the line laboratory also the ghost-white color it comes in is absolutely my favorite I can see it perfectly above the water and it seems to nearly disappear under water. Really cant decide 6lb or 8lb 832 though. I live in Colorado so I definitely want to use some trout magnets in moving streams and pressured ponds. I also want to try to throw some z-man micro finesse jigheads/baits, in good sized DEEP lakes, on this setup for some smallmouth and walleye too, probably the 1/20oz jigheads. What do you think 6lb or 8lb? Regular berkley vanish for leader so what # of leader do you think will match?
@pistolcreek
@pistolcreek 19 дней назад
@@Bovined. The only thing I’m sure about is that the thinner the line, the better when it comes to casting light lures like the Trout Magnet. That said, I imagine the size of the fish you are fighting, water current, and underwater hazards like sharp rocks might be determining factors on exactly what break strength you can get away with. I almost always fish 2lb test because I target panfish like crappie and bluegill. But… I will say that the Trout SOS 2lb is CRAZY strong. If you set your drag, you can land some very large fish with it. I’m not very knowledgeable in this area, but would suggest starting with the thinner lines you have and setting your drag to 30% or so of the lines rated break strength. Now braided line is a whole other animal, and one I have zero experience with. But, there are plenty of folks here on RU-vid to learn from if you are interested in it. As for leader material, I am still learning about it, myself. That ghost-white line sounds great.
@Bovined.
@Bovined. 19 дней назад
@@pistolcreek Hey thanks for the input! I think I will go with the 6lb sufix 832, its the same diameter as the trout sos 2lb. I cant stand using anything other than braid as my main line because of memory/coiling reduced sensitivity etc. Once youve used the same crazy sensitive rod with all 3 types youll know what i mean. Not sure if it relates to spinning but thats what I've always done on baitcasting set ups for largemouth in Texas where I grew up. Good rod blank + Braid + Tungsten, you can feel everything!. I've never used something so ultralight and/or light in line so this will be an interesting comparison. Think Ill pick up 8lb berkley vanish $8 for 110yd for the leader. To tell ya the truth, I have basically no experience with most of the species up here in Colorado, theres little to no largemouth or crappie here, and back in Texas we dont have trout, yellow perch, walleye, kokanee or pike and smallmouth are extremely rare in texas. So Im kind of trying to figure out this light weight fishing myself haha, completely different from what Im used to. Im used to chocolate milk colored water and up here theres FEET of visibility, its crazy different.
@Bovined.
@Bovined. 16 дней назад
The 6lb braid is nice, I was able to fit nearly the entire 150 yard spool all the way down to the plastic on the line package/spool, on the daiwa qz 750 which is good for it being such a small reel. was pretty windy today in elevenmile canyon but I was still able to work through very fast moving water and around large boulders. I think if there werent a million people there or if I had gone to a different stretch of river I wouldve slayed the trout on the trout magnet today, regardless was fun to cast it around with good accuracy and the rod felt so damn sensitive just reeling over a rock. No break offs even though i got wrapped around a few boulders in fast current.
