What made me love Geed is how I relate to him: we both had bad fathers. And I'm a sucker for "using the powers of darkness for good" kind of thing (which is why I love Ultraman Orb Thunder Breaster and Kamen Rider overall).
Even the finale is essentially Geed breaking the trauma/abuse cycle by presenting empathy for Belial's situation, due to his upbringing and all of his character development
Geed was the first Ultra season i finished , and i absolutely loved it . My favorite character was Leito and his dynamic with Zero was amazing . Seriously , they need to bring this guy back !!
@@CarReckless yes, most episodes are in there (or at least were, idk if they are still up), they don't have subs, but since they are mostly recaps of everything Ultraman Zero and Geed, they aren't that needed
I freaking loved this show. It doesn't have characters I like as much as Juggler or Gai in Orb, but Geed is maybe the best modern Ultra as a full package. Side note, RU-vid is seriously lacking (in the US at least) in these video-essays about Ultraman, would love to see more.
Geed imo is one of the best among the New Generation Ultras, great main protagonist, quirky cast, awesome monster design since it's the first time combining them, and my god the ending...
17:25 “Is Belial gone?” Belial: NOPE Also my thoughts on this season is that it is the best story that connects the legacy of Zero/Belial story going on and having it be used on a new story with Geed makes the story overall feel so grand. And with the events that smoothly go across each episode, it is the Ultraman series where I felt really enveloped into an superhero story. (Also tradition as an Ultra fan, plz watch Ultraman Mebius someday -3-)
honestly, considering M78's ultras have been show to be able to be revived ever since the first ever ultraman, why would anyone expect belial to actually be gone? at least he's going to come back as proper ultraman again in the next ultra galaxy movie
Honestly, When geed and belial had their final fight in the rain, then when Riku said that he should let go, and then belial shouted ''do not talk to me like you understand!'' And then when he shouted geed and Geed whispered ,,goodbye father'', I cried. And I am still 😭. And I am 18. What an beautiful ending. And I am crying whenever I hear May j. Infinity song. Beautiful. Am I the only one?
Let’s be honest even tho people are getting tired of fusion ultras let’s be honest. they usually have the best storylines out of all the neo generation ultramen.
Actually in the new movie trailer "The Absolute Conspiracy" we can see for a few seconds belials "good" form before he got corrupted by evil and became belial but who knows it might be something else
My first season was geed as well, I watched it live and re-watch it this year and I agree with you geed is great. I got so excited when he returned in Z. Wish he'd get the orb treatment tho (ultra fights, side series, etc.)
Also to answer your question about tsupro using old kaiju suits. To me.... it’s budget management being used as a way to establish a sense of grand legacy across series (mostly for showa fans). Back then in pre ginga heisei years Ultraman used to have new kaiju suits every episode and episode lineup length was much more longer. Tsupro used to spend TONS of money on their shows and it almost made em bankrupt until Bandai revived em. Also Mebius was very popular being a show that alluded back to showa stuff and suits and might have imbued the need to cameo showa age suits in modern shows.
also to add, they used to have a long court case against chaiyo production, a thailand company that was infringing on their copyrights on ultraman franchise. they won, but thx to how long it took them (literal years) it costed them a lot of budget and has been cited as one of the main reason on their near bankruptcy.
I really liked it, I watched starting with orb and went to z. I personally liked geed out of all of them, amazing suits, good character development and good conflicts.
As for them bringing back monsters I’m sure them saving money helps but they do it in a respectful way that for the most part pays homage to the monsters first appearance decades ago.
Geed is by far my favorite of the New Generation Ultraman shows. what does play into that is definitely the Belial side of things since he was my favorite Ultraman villain growing up. This was also one of only 3 Ultraman seasons I watched as it was airing. The other 2 technically being Ultra Galaxy and Ginga. Both of these are only technicalities though as I had only been watching Ginga in Burts while it was airing, meaning I was just reading up on it and watching episodes whenever I felt like it, and Ultra Galaxy was back when I was a little kid and that was without subtitles. And besides I was a kid so I gave fuck all about the story. This remains the only Ultraman season I untechnically watched as the episodes were coming out during my first year of college.
Ultraman Geed and R/B is got to be my starting point of watching Ultraman. These two Ultraman Series are so good when it comes to storyline and theme songs, suits and powers. Love them both!.
Geed was an awesome show and you did it justice reviewing it. If you want to see how Zero and Belial's beef started, Ultra Galaxy Legend is an amazing movie to do that. Tiga is a great standalone series, followed up by Dyna and Gaia. Mebius is another really well done series. If you want to watch Showa Ultraman, Return of Ultraman is very good.
Geed is my favorite Ultraman season of all times, and the experience of watching geed is very enriched by watching all the Zero and Belial movies before Geed's season, oh and my second fave season is Mebius so I highly recommend that as well
I personally love Mebius and Geed EQUALLY!!! Mebius is the most wholesome and traditional Ultraman season to date!! like i CRY EVERY TIME I WATCH AN EPISODE OF MEBIUS 🥺🥺 But i ALSO love the very personal and fast-paced narrative of Riku becoming an Ultraman on his own terms. Not M78’s terms, OR Belial’s terms!! Both shows are very different, but show just how diverse and amazing this franchise is and how much storytelling potential it still has over 50 years later!!
@@arielmartinez94 thank you good sir, to paraphrase Ultraman Ace, “Please continue to love the people of this planet, no matter how many times they may hurt you”
@CBeard Sucks CBeard Sucks oh don't feel sorry for me, I'm just a guy with his own opinions that also respects other's opinions, just wanted to say that calling something gay doesn't mean it's bad, keep it in mind, now if you excuse me i decided not to reply to you any further than this, bye
You can also look at it as Belial's downfall is brought down by his own creation. It's not his longtime rival or Ultra Father or any other Ultraman. But his own plan to collect the little stars backfire on him.
Coincidentally ultraman Geed was my second ultra series ever. and I agree with all the positive things you said about the show which is why he is my favorite ultraman.
Nice Vid! For recommendations, while I would love to say Cosmos, I don’t think that’s a good starter pack season. One that I would say is a good starter pack season is Tiga. It’s essentially the Kuuga of Ultraman in the sense that it’s somewhat of a reboot of the Ultra franchise and it’s pretty simple. Although it can be pretty disconnected to the other seasons.
Another thing about Tiga is that it actually got an English Dub that aired in the US, yep not an adaption but the actual Japanese show with an English Dub Language Track complete with a new theme song for the Dub it aired on the Fox Box. And the English Dub of Tiga was my very first Ultraman series.
I like how people refer to tiga as the kuuga to ultraman when in reality tiga came first so essentially kuuga is the tiga for kamen rider, but it just irks me to get back into ultraman with early heisei
@@derrickhaggard I really need to get back into ultraman with the heisei stuff but I too busy watching kamen rider specifically the first one with it's 98 episodes
@@somerandomboi7045 I understand as after watching Tiga's Dub I had to not only watch the original Japanese Tiga but the series that can before it along with watching the various Heisei era Kamen Rider series. And right now I currently watching Kamen Rider Saber, Kiramager, the current Ultraman series, and the Ultraman anime.
Yay! Another Ultraman fan! I actually also started Ultraman with Geed. Glad you enjoyed it as well! Edit: Dang it, you beat me to the Ex-Aid reference.
Glad you enjoyed Geed! Really hope you watch Orb next because it is also a very solid season and feels like an adult story. Also, don’t forget to watch the movie of Geed because it is the actual ending of Geed that ends the story.
Ultraman geed was the closest thing that we can get for Ultraman Zero series (excluding the chronicles one since it’s basically a recap) and i’m happy for it
What about instead of an ultra potential, you do a your own ultra season. What toys you would make for the gimmick, and the monsters you would make, and what other ultras would show up.
Geed was my second Ultraman but given that the last one was in 1992 with Ultimate Hero/Powered I consider it real first. Absolutely loved it, and it truly does stand on its own
My favorite Ultra series. I say this having watched the US cartoon Scott, Beth and Chuck Utraman movie, probably the first Ultra production I ever saw (in the late 80s), then Ultraman Hayata came on local TV (Philippines) in the 1990s, then Ace. Then I recently completed the more recent ones like Taiga, Z, Trigger, and Decker, and those before Geed like Mebius, Nexus, Neos, Ultra Monster Battle, Ginga, Ginga S, X and Orb. Started but haven't finished Cosmos, Tiga, Dyna, Gaia and Max (mostly first 2 eps and such). Geed still wins out, I like his being the son of a big nasty, his not being someone who had to take a dead body for a host (though Zero filled that) and not being part of the Earth defense force. And many departures from the usual, I prefer that. Great writing. If there's a second to this series, I'd put Nexus, then Z. I'll say Cosmos might be among the ones I least like (based on first 6 eps), sort of weak in execution and I dislike his Karate Kid-like pose, lol.
the bring back old monsters thingy is... kinda bout budget and story like this new series got a more cheaper budget that other tokusatsus (thats mostly why they are only 25 episodes long) but they re-use a lot of the monsters mostly cause they make to conect stuff is kinda like marvel and dc with all the different universes, but yeah they mostly made this cause of the budget
This was my second Ultra show after Ultraman Tiga. It's an enjoyable show and I had fun with it and I almost cried a couple times. But Geed is not really the best. I say it's in the middle to above expectations. To answer your question why older monsters show up is mainly because Budget but also this is a half year show now, so making new monsters might not be the best choice and it is kinda pointless since you have a big library or said monsters to use. If you want a recommendation, I recommend Ultraman Tiga.
Finally took a chance on Ultraman myself about two weeks ago. Started with Orb and really enjoyed that, but then i watched Geed and I definitely prefer Geed over Orb
8 find it funny that Geed was on Crunchyroll and Tsuburaya has such a good relationship with western releases via blu ray but Toei doesn't want to try anymore, Shout factory pretty much busted through their door
Reusing monsters are totally due to budget, even in the early days Tsuburaya reuse monster suits in their other shows or made small modifications and reuse them in later seasons. Also they can continue to sell monster toys. They can't really sell toys of One-off monsters.
You confused about Laiha's sword? Guess you haven't watched that many kung fu flicks or an actual wushu with swords😂 I personally considers Geed as one of my top 5 Ultra series (though I prefers Orb a little bit more). For an Ultraman recommendation please watch Mebius.
I honestly really liked this show. This is also my first Ultraman I watched after taking a break from Ultraman. It helped me get back into Ultraman and reignited my love of Ultraman. The thing I didn't like about the show is the Belial and Zero shtick again. It really should have been about Geed and Belial most of the time
I started watching Geed After his appearance in Ultraman Z and I think its a good ultra season. But my one question is what qualifies has a final form In Ultraman? Like is it the shows final form (Geed Mega Master) or the Movies final form (Ultimate Final)?
My first ultraman season was orb and I loved it but I managed to watch geed and I really loved the story aspects of it. Belial being geeds father was just fascinating to me as I've never really seen it in tokusatu. I've only really watched rider before this but I feel I chose 2 great series to introduce me to ultraman. Tho I do feel like both where really short but I know it's a staple but still.
@CBeard Sucks CBeard Sucks Id definitely say that Geed is the most Story-Driven Ultraman season, but that don’t make it any less valid than the other seasons in the Ultraman catalog!! I personally wouldn’t recommend Geed as anyone’s FIRST season, something like Mebius or Zett that are pretty traditional ultraman seasons is better to get into. Geed is definitely my favorite season but I understand it’s not everyone’s cup of tea!! Let’s work together as Ultraman fans to validate and respect each other’s Ultraman preferences!!
something that swings around side way has nothing much to do with its ability to cut through things (its edge), The sword that Leiha uses s a legit Chinese style sword. Think of a papercut, it is moving around but still sharps on its edge
@CBeard Sucks CBeard Sucks You and a small group are the only people who think that. everyone else either thinks it’s decent but not the best or one of the best new-gens.
My favorite ultra series is r/b because it talks about family and just wholesome!! I really love te suits to, my favorite suit is ultraman blu.some people hated r/b and see them as an insult and i could understand but saying the series as an insult is really disrespectful in any way. In conclusion, i really love r/b because it's just a warm hearted series and i love that.
It's great that you really enjoyed this show along with a load of other people. But something I've noticed a lot about geed is that for a lot of newcomers to the franchise, who saw this as their first or one of their first ultra shows, absolutely love it. But for long time ultraman fans like myself and some other people I've spoken to, we utterly hate this show. It's not really an issue if us hating it coz it's new and we're showa or early Heisei elitist, but because we find the story lacking, the fusion gimmick a bad sogn of things to come, and that of course did end up coming, every side character being more interesting then the main protagonist, and the suit designs to be unappealing. But as I say, you enjoyed it and that's great, it's just strange to see the juxtaposition of opinions between different parties.
@@thomasjujube yeah no they are full of something, X and Orb are both amazing, Z is good, Taiga is worth a watch, R/B and Ginga depends on the person. Geed is in no way “best and only new gen” imao
The reused kaiju suits is definitely due to the budget. I thinks its due to the kaiju only showing up in one episode per series so they gotta get their money's worth out of those suits. I mean most of the original ultraman series are 50+ episodes of monster of the week.
Not my first ultraman (that would be R/B, unless you want to count that bizarre 4kids Tiga dub), but personally my current favorite Ultraman (but Z is a very close second). I love the story, characters, and the tone of the story, as well as the fight scenes
Geed primitive: Ultraman (first light giant) and Belial (first dark ultras) Magnificent form: Father of Ultra (best friend of Belial) and Zero (rival of belial)
Zena's actor is suit actor of Geed and many other Ultras. The director wants him to be on screen, but he thiks himself is not good at acting so this is the solution (never opens his mouth). Beside, the actor and actress of Moa got married in real life
I loved geed also was my first, not my favorite that’s for orb. But I absolutely loved the cast of characters and there dynamics with one another. If I had to recommend and ultra season pls watch Nexus. It’s a more darker and realistic ultra, but it still has all the messages of being an Ultraman. I will say the ending is rushed but that’s because it was being canceled giving it a 37 episode run instead of the 50 it was originally intended for. But despite that I still think it’s a amazing ultra season and personally one of my favorites!
the only experience i have with ultra man is the new rise of ultra man comics. and the EXTREMLY brutal netflix verson, but i love the comics and realy want to watch the show at some point
Ultraman Geed. My thoughts: Flawed, but not terrible. Before going into my thoughts: This is my personal opinion. It doesn’t matter if you hate or love Geed or any series. I shouldn’t be seeing others fight and dramatizing something that is merely based on personal views, not hard facts. Also, I started watching the series around 2006-2007, so obviously, I will have some sort of bias/different point of view compared to all of you. The series for sure has problems here and there such as the some of the writing of the story and how the characters are played out within certain situations. I will say that the concept is very interesting. An Ultraman having to battle against fate and using an already established villain (Ultraman Belial) as the father of Geed. The way they executed wasn’t perfect. The characters can be both enjoyable and unenjoyable in multiple occasions. The villains (for me) especially are underwhelming, and I’m not particularly fond of the overall fighting style of Geed. Eventually, I will post in the replies of certain categories and go more “in depth (as much as I can)” about my viewpoint.
Just curious (and I’m also new to Ultraman which is why I’m asking), but does anybody know why that ever since Ultraman Ginga ever season is only 25 episodes compared to the normal 50 of Super Sentai and Kamen Rider?
Reiblood was never mentioned after the separation…….and beliarok was never mentioned after Z Ultimate final was great And galaxy rising aesthetically might be a tweak/mix of magnificent and solid burning with the armor.
@CBeard Sucks CBeard Sucks I personally think Zett is a GREAT introduction season! It very much reminds me of Ultra Seven in terms of theming!! It’s a very nice blend of what made the Showa and NewGen seasons so great!! You opinion is valid!! i’m just trying to spread positivity among us Ultraman fans!!
Ok this might be a little confusing geed was the first I watched as it was airing I caught glimpses of orb as it was airing but didnt watch it fully until after geed, why? When I start a season, any toku or any show, I try to watch it as it comes out, weekly or monthly in some cases so I can form a opinion then, then after the season finishes have a first time opinion then I will rewatch it at a later date. Geed is up there as one of my favourite tokusatsu shows, feed is easily my favourite ultraman, by far.
@CBeard Sucks CBeard Sucks No way. Geed was great. Taiga I loved. I was skeptical of Taiga at first, by I grew to love, because it was the one season that didn't do fusion power ups.
@@DragonStar524 I love both seasons!! While I have problems with Taiga (biggest one being how Titas and Fuma’s backstories didn’t make it in the show and was put in the RU-vid Audio Drama), i think both seasons are great NewGen seasons!!
