Worked on a carb clean and rebuild. It was important to maintain the original finish. Used a Vevor Ultrasonic cleaner 15L and Dawn dish soap for a eco friendly and biodegradable option.
We tried different products such as Lacquer Thinner and Gasoline that did not perform as expected in this situation. We were looking to maintain an original finish (driver quality) for a car that will be undergoing a future restoration. The visual appearance of this carb looked fine when we started and had been soaking in WD-40 for days. I elected not to use a scraper and hammer to knock it apart as I knew it was quite stuck and according to the owner a few days ago only apart once that he knew and has been sitting for 30 years, It was evident as it had no signs of scraping etc. Factory 1967 390 Mercury Cougar List 3793 C70F-A Holley (Autolite) Carburetor.
