Ultrasonic Mister- New Blower Test (FAIL!) Don't use this one!

I was linked to this blower as a possible alternative to the cheap marine bilge blower for the ultrasonic mister setup and at first I thought it was going to work great. Once I got it hooked up I realized that there is a HUGE problem with it. Though it looks really good and helps the whole setup look more professional and clean, it can't be slowed down enough to work with this setup. For now, until a better alternative comes along, I will be continuing to use the cheap, ugly marine bilge blowers

Thanks for the heads up! I was just about to order this one as well. I have an extra VHP Fog FIN (VIGILANTE Halloween Productions Fog Forced Injection Nozzle) that I built years ago, and have lying around. It's basically a Y venturi using a 12-volt computer fan, running at 3 volts. They've been a secret of mine for many years that works great. I'll play around with that first before ordering a new bilge blower system. Thanks again and Happy Haunting!

I also purchased this model due to it coming with the variable controller, I got the 4" and the 3" model. 4" was considerably cheaper for some reason. But what I found is the 4" inch can run a lot slower speeds than the 3" with a greater range of speed control. The challenge was getting the right fittings to connect to the piping ( a little gorilla tape helped ) Also, placed the fan further down the pipe to give the fog and mist more of a chance to mix.

Oh shoot ha ha, I just ordered this and tried it out, and it sure didn't work that well. I suspected perhaps it was going too fast. Glad I found this!

My last video shows what the right speed will look like with the marine bilge blower hooked up inline.

Try moving the fan farther down your trunk line or to the end of the trunk line. The fan will be less effective and all the corrugations in pipe will also help slow the airflow from fan significantly

And I agree I feel like the best it works is on the lowest setting, not to mention I’m using a smaller cooler so I just don’t think it’s mixing all the great. Although it’s still a lot better than regular

Thanks for the update! Mine is supposed to arrive tomorrow. Guess it'll go right back to Amazon!

I drilled that hole in mine so I'll have to keep it. I'll eventually find some use for it somewhere I'm sure.

This is really interesting. Building ours now and had not considered the LOW Speed aspect of the fan as my thoughts were more centered around getting a fan with enough speed/power to push the fog the length of the tube. At his point I am guessing about 75 to 100 feet of 4" tubing to go from where I want locate the fog machine to the end of the tubing. Thanks for sharing.

Yea, you don't want to try and blast the fog across the yard. It will slowly creep on it's own until it covers it. My fog tube is over 30ft long and just that gentle flow of air is enough to move it down the full length. There has to be a large volume of water vapor in the box for the fog to mix with before it exits. If your blower is sucking all of that water vapor out before the fog comes in your low lying effect is probably not going to be as good as it should be, or last as long between fogger blasts. This is one of the things I have to explain over and over, just like people wanting to add ice to the water. Everybody wants to go more powerful and it just won't work that way with this setup.

@@OakLaneCemetery Good information. I want to get away from using ice or anything similar. The setup needs to be reliable and easy. I just want it to work. I can deal with low and slow. Thanks again.

Have you tried using a true PWM controller, It will still push 24volts but pules the cycle so it should run slower

That’s the same fan I have for my chiller but mines bigger

Restrict the intake area with a partial cover until you get the desired mix and length?
@OakLaneCemetery
@OakLaneCemetery 15 дней назад
A possibility, but I'd rather not restrict flow. I want a big volume of fog moving out, just not very fast.

@@OakLaneCemetery I mean it can't hurt to try since you already have it. Make it adjustable and experiment.

Switch the blower to run only when the fog machine is pumping maybe?
@OakLaneCemetery
@OakLaneCemetery 16 дней назад
I had considered that, but it still wouldn't solve the issue of it emptying the box in less than a minute instead of lasting for nearly 2 minutes like the slower blower does. I set my fogger for a 10 second blast into the mister box every 2 minutes and that gives me a near continuous flow of low fog across the yard. Simpler to just switch back to the slower fan. I can still use this one as an extra exhaust fan for my 3d printer if I ever do nylon or abs prints, or to make a paint booth/box for spray painting inside my workshop.
