Do I go over everything, no. Did I miss some stuff, Probably. Ask any questions in the comments below. Thanks to Ultraview for sending me a prerelease version. Im sure it influenced my initial impressions slightly... but not much.
I’m just a regular working guy so take my opinion for what it’s worth. First off, fantastic choice of cigar and bourbon. It’s not often I hear about a JD that I’m unfamiliar with. Now to the meat and potatoes. This sight is what I think we’ve all wanted to see in a slider. Simplicity. Fewer moving parts definitely equates higher quality and confidence to me. I absolutely love my Spot Hogg but it does give off the “tacticool AR15” clutter feeling vs this really having everything you need and nothing you don’t. It’s all thought out and, like you said, doesn’t look like it got the “engineer” treatment. As a machinist, I love seeing the fine milling marks that are just visible on this. Let’s me know it’s not just some die cast pile with a flashy price tag slapped on it because of a name. Now the major con. Cost. This runs near the same price as a used V3 or Ventum. What I’m hoping is that as time goes by more companies will adopt this and, similar to the night vision and thermal scope market, things will slowly use the technology and quality that products like this have but at a price a normal unsponsored midwestern bowhunter such as myself can afford.
Good feedback. On the price end, I think it’s gonna get worse for premium stuff. Labor and cost of goods have exploded the last 3 years… the good news is most of the time the rising tide lifts all boats, and with a good technology, and good ideas that really work will trickle down into lower priced offerings. But who knows how long that will take.
A great step forward by UV, which will push the industry forward as well. I’m interested to see what they might come out with for target shooters (I.e. a lens instead of pins), but I’ll probably get one of these (or something derivative of this) to shoot with pins sooner or later. I’d be happy if in the short term they sell just the sight so I can put the UV scopes I already have on it.
You did better than Chris Bee's review LOL seriously though, really well put together review. I haven't been able to touch a UV slider, but i feel the same about how simple and perfect it looks
Great job again Brandon. Seems that price is the only paradigm. Remember not everyone drives a jag or Mercedes. Different strokes for different folks. Again great work.
I was really looking forward to your review on this sight. I’m totally stoked for mine to arrive and now even more so after seeing how you were impressed. I feel like a kid on Christmas morning waiting for my red rider BB gun. Thanks for the content 🤙
Im definitely going to check one of these out. The only issue i have with UV is they seem to be on this ridiculous trajectory. With that comes demand. Demand causes companies to rush. Every scope or release i have gotten from them has had issues. Its turned me off a bit, their idea’s and innovation are great. Its the longevity of their products im starting to have a problem with. Also, the fact i cant just call and talk to some one at that company is pretty annoying. Appreciate the quick first vid on it! 👍🏻
The growing pains of a young company in a small industry, I think are very obvious with ultra view. Best advice is just wait until everything is in stock and then wait until everyone else complains about stuff that’s wrong, and decide if it’s worth it at that point.
@@Eric-bh7jy too early to say over priced. Just because something is expensive doesn’t necessarily mean it’s over priced. Some drive jaguars and some fords.
Love it, I ordered one the day they came out, thanks for sharing Brandon, your narration is like a National Geographic documentary, well done and presented. Ty!
Was it 600 or 1000? I’ve seen it priced several places for 1000 but that’s the full kit. I’ve also seen the 600 tag elsewhere for just the scope without the mouth/rail.
@@conantrumparian6826the full kit is only $600. What you’re seeing is the secondary market buying them and reselling them for damn near double because they’re already sold out and back ordered.
I use to write for many outdoor magazines, so, I appreciate good reviews and this is a solid performance. Overall, I'm a Remington 870 guy when it comes to shotguns. I like the basics at a reasonable price. There is something about the higher prices of bows, sights, etc. that I shy away from. It is becoming about principle to me. The idea that you need a thousand dollars worth of stand and steps and a high dollar sight and bow that rises to twenty-five hundred dollars, well, that causes me pause. I love laying a gobbler, shot with my single barrel 20, beside one taken with a high dollar shotgun. There's something satisfying about it for me. I'm confident the new sight is a great product. However, it isn't a necessity for enjoying bow hunting.
Very well said. I think if that’s your principal, then stand by it. I think it looks like a great product, and admittedly I will probably purchase one. But I do agree with your view.
Ive got nothing but respect and love for Chris,Colbey and all the Ultraview guys building their brand and making nice stuff... but no way is that sight $400 nicer then my HHA RYZ Max. I see some rrally cool ideas but the cost of Archery equiptment reminds me of Mtn. Biking the way yuppies have come in qnd driven the prices of stuff up as rhey make it more about fashion and internet clout then function. Maybe one day but for now Im sticking with HHA and Black Gold on my Bows.
Feel like I’m listening to commentary from the Masters Golf Tournament. Solid review and this sight will be on the way asap. By the way, shitters full.
Shitters full! A man who gets it… respect. I was literally doing the voice over while my wife was sleeping in the other room, so I was trying to be quiet. I didn’t realize I was going to make it sound quite that ridiculous, but I certainly wasn’t going to do it over again!
@@brandonmcdonald6121 oh no, I get it. My buddies ask me why im trying to sound like a porn star. Cause my never ever sleeping 10 month old is in the next room.
badass! i love their products but this sight will have to wait.... too pricey for me rn unfortunately. would love to get my hands on one someday. PS. Sick intro! fantastic wording
Brandon! Like your bourbon & cigars, your barn style home is also another subject of interest for your followers I’m sure. you should do a review on it.
This sight is nearly perfect. Yellow pins suck in my opinion, but regardless of my preferences all pins in this sight should be customizable in both size and color. People who spend $600 on sights want things exactly to their preferences. They can compromise things at half that price. Customized pin size and color is an easy fix. Great product ultraview.....Please take my advice.
I appreciate the simplicity of the sight. It seems they took all the best parts of the top of the line sights and tried to incorporate them into the sight. To me, the sight looks cool but not $600 cool. I think that’s going to keep a lot of people from buying them
The people who dove all over the Phase 4 and every bridglock component will be all over this. But that’s about it. I have a 2012 HTR that I bought a few years ago for $400. If it was under $400, I might consider this site. But $599 is a whole new level of over the top for a non-magnified bow site.
Looks awesome. Great video work too. Cost too much for a hunting sight. Bow 1300, sight 600, Mathews stabilizers 600, a drop away rest 100-350, stand 60, release 60-400. The industry wants more archers but this is getting a bit ridiculously expensive. Just why!?
But yet you can buy everything you mentioned for a fraction of the cost u mentioned. Nobody makes you spend 1300 on a bow. A 300 dollar bow will kill an animal the exact same amount of dead.
@@98blower17 Absolutely right. My first bow was 300 ready to hunt Bear species, 30$ for 6 arrows, a cheap waist strap, and a Walmart range finder. I’m just saying that the better quality items can be a bit expensive.
Let’s not act like there aren’t tiers to bows and equipment. This sight site shouldn’t discourage new archers to get into archery. My bow is a RTH Diamond and was $600. I’ve upgraded the site, rest, and put a stabilizer and offset stabilizer on it. I’m at about $1000 total right now. This isn’t the site for me, but that’s not to say it’s not right for someone else.
Just saying that for a “hunting sight” that it’s too expensive. Same thing with the Dailed sight. Probably would be worth it if they had just put out on the market with out the actual sight housing and made it compatible with their existing housing and others then priced it out around 250. From what seems it just is not compatible with their other sight housing compared to their sight Housings being compatible with other rail systems.
Good review. As a note, a GOOD engineer does not complicate things and uses minimal parts. Most things made today in archery equipment are by armature engineers.
I guess it’s person to person, really. In general I find “function over form” from engineers. They name parts things like “1X-db12*” because they have some filing system that makes total sense to them that no or else knows about. This site seems like a nice blend
Love the simplicity of the rail, wish it had metal sight tapes instead of the stickies. I shoot different arrows for different game, and love that I can swap tapes easy on my hha. If it had easily replaceable sight tapes, I couldn't spend my $$ fast enough lol.
Love it. While the dialed sight certainly looks cool, I hate the way you have to adjust it. This on the other hand looks incredibly refined. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts after some use time.
Lots of features that are nice, elegantly simple. That said, not thinking about getting rid of my BG Mountain Lite to try this. Will spend the $$$ on arrows and broadheads.
SORRY, very "old school". Update to the Burris Oracle bow sight that has a built in rangefinder (hand held range finder no longer needed) and automatically adjust your lighted aiming dot (the only one showing) for the correct distance. also adjust the dot for a moving animal, no need to keep checking the range. Pricey, but well worth it.
As long as those are accurate and can identify through brush and dark places, that sounds good to me. I’ve shot 3d with guys with the garmin and they all had issues with dark targets or heavy cover.
The main part of the sight reminds my of an apple product. Simple and effective with less to go wrong. Looks awesome as well. I don’t mind my UV scope but I don’t love it. The tiny screws that I have had fall in the grass as well the lines on the bubble need to be tighter like blackgold. You pay all that money for precision yet you have sloppy scope bubble 🫧 ? I would consider the sight with a blackgold single pin for a TAC event.
That’s funny actually, the bubble in my first UV scope completely dried up. I need to order a new one for it, but I rarely shoot it. Will be interesting to see as I start using this one. What happens
@@brandonmcdonald6121don’t they send extra screws and an extra bubble with this site? I’m guessing they’re still having issues with them since they send out an extra.
Ultra view makes some great products. They would get a lot more people using their stuff if the prices weren’t so ridiculous. This should be $300 max and their release should be $150
I haven’t shot with it on yet. So I’m not exactly sure. If I notice something funky are weird, I will post an update video, or maybe I’ll do a side and video with it if I’m inspired. We shall see.
I wish the scope light was better the uv2 was horrible the uv3 isn't much better indoors its good but outside in the sun it doesn't get bright enough. I wish they would just make a spot to put an aftermarket
I want it. Ill be saving for a while but thats ok. Its basically everything i could want in a bow sight. I do wish it had one pin with 2 spots on it instead but oh well.
I guess my love of Scotch Whisky has thrown me off of this product in a way. Let me explain; not long ago there was a trend (that is alive and well in Bourbon to this day) of packaging the whisk(e)y in the most extravagant materials possible in an attempt to express to the customer they are buying something of quality. This is not always the case. Sometimes it was to get rid of product and convince people they were getting something special. Anyways, my favorite whisky is simply packaged with a box or tube made of cardboard or tin with a simple yet educational label. This sight comes with iPhone type packaging and costs a lot. I’m sure it is a well made sight but I wonder how much money we would save by buying one that is sold to us in a simple plastic container? I’d rather buy that one just like I’d rather buy my Bruichladdich or Arran Whisky and stear clear of that Pretentious Macallan.
@@brandonmcdonald6121 I’d be interested to see how a video on that the previous 4 pin module wasn’t I’d love to buy this product but the only previous model I could use was a single or 2 pin
@@brandonmcdonald6121 It looks and sounds like it's a horizontal pin specific, will see what they add on down the road. Being an out west guy, I'd rather have a vertical pin all day. Hopefully I can make mine work.. Could be a good idea for another video.
I’m not going to lie, the packaging for this is absolutely pristine compared to other products. My only issue is that the sight costs as much as my bow does, but so does every other well built slider on the market (HHA, Axcel, CBE). It’s a really good looking scope and one day I want to own one, but it won’t be until they give you windage markers on the rail, them not giving you windage indicators makes no sense for a product that costs $600 and is sold out everywhere, so if you actually want one anytime soon you’ll have to pay $800 on the secondary market.
@@brandonmcdonald6121haha my guy, you’re hilarious. Listen, half of what I said is out of jealousy because it literally cost the same amount that I spent on my bow, but if I was going to go out and get a slider (I don’t even have one yet because I cannot afford it) this would be it. The only issues I have again are there’s no windage indicator, and they’re going to be extremely hard to find. Maybe if I start saving up by the time I can get one they’ll be readily available.
So you sit there and drink some whiskey and smoke a cigar, pull the thing out of the box and tell us how cool it looks. This is your idea of a review? LOL
Looks like an amazing job with the manufacturing and engineering. UV reminds me of an African dung beetle polishing a ball of shit. At the end of the day it's still a ball of shit. No one with an education in engineering or anyone with knowledge of physics would hang that much material off the riser when the riser could perform the same. function. Integrate the rack and pinion, adjustment knob, and sight tape into the riser where it belongs! Cheers🍻
If you want to spend $600 for a pin sight, this one is it! If you like movable, horizontal pins, this looks like a well built sight. It's not what I am looking for in a hunting sight, but it would make an awesome 3-d sight for someone most likely. I hear the word "simple", but this sight is way more complicated than I want in a hunting sight. When it's crunch time, I was super simple. Movable, multiple pins are not simple in my book. This sight could be $50, & it would still be a pass for me.
@@brandonmcdonald6121 There is nothing about this sight I would like for hunting, but that's me. If I see a nice buck coming in, I am more concerned about being pulled back & ready. The last thing in the world I want is some sight you have to dink around with. I am not walking up to a 3-d target, ranging it, and then shooting. I also hate horizontal pins. I would much rather have one fixed vertical pin. When I say fixed, I mean fixed. It goes nowhere! Then I practice to know where to put it. If I want to kill targets at 100 yards, the UV Slider sight may be the ticket. I could care less about that, however. I don't even use pins any more. I switched over to the EZ-V sight a couple years ago, and I don't see myself going back to pins again for hunting. Once you get used to it, it becomes instinctive! I have been shooting all summer, & I haven't touched the sight once. I shoot at unknown distances every night & never touch a rangefinder. I judge my groups with arrows that are shot at unknown distances. To me this is hunting. I don't want a movable sight or multiple pins for that matter when I am hunting, but that's me.
I am a seasoned, and well accomplished CNC machinist…so I speak from 20 years experience. The machining marks, are terrible on that sight, and the machining in the gearing doesn’t look good either. With UVs track record of problems with their new products, and the fact that you have to pre order, and wait probably at least 6 months….hard pass for me. I hate the fact that every since Colby got a little success, and has all the metro-sexual rabid fanboys….there is zero customer service from them. Ask me how I know. Unless you get on commie-book…if I have to get on Facebook to get any kind of response, I refuse to support that company. And by the looks of that piss poor machining….for $600, a lot of people are gonna be dissatisfied. There are enough of the brainwashed fanboys, that will support them, that they will still do okay. The sight looks nice, and I like some of the features….but I will not own one. Thanks for the video Brandon, appreciate your time and efforts. You’re one of my favorite content creators.
I get some of the face milling marks, especially on the lesser seen faces. Unless you’re gonna grind, you aren’t gonna get absolutely everything 100% of the time. But those scallops from the ballnose/bullnose stepovers would have been a one pass cleanup and I don’t get why they’re there. On one hand I like knowing it was machined and not die cast. One the other, it would have been an extra 5 minutes to really make that thing smooth.
Out of curiosity, what he would the machining be terrible! Go too fast? Not enough passes? That’s a pretty tangible thing to look at. I also wonder if to the naked eye it still functions like it should do it’s ok if it’s 120 grit, not 300 (sand paper speak) 🤷🏻♂️ As for the customer service and Metro sexual stuff (I chuckled a bit at that comment) I can’t say. Hopefully they are able to staff up and serve everybody.
