You are welcome sir. It worked very well. There are some 3d printed options now that are even better but for those of us that like to tinker this is a totally viable solution.
I found that by putting a few washers in front of the spring of the magazine for the compact Hdp50 allows you to use aluminum 2.5g balls with a blown detent. If you want to use the 8.4g steel balls, you may have to add more washers. Basically, what is happening is that the spring of the magazine is applying more pressure into the rubber detent of every ball that is in the magazine, which prevents the balls from falling out of the barrel. However, you will still have to use the blown detent that you have with this process.
Great tip and i tried shimming the spring and it did work but i was on borrowed time already. My detent pretty cam out and two pieces. The compact detent isnt as easily replicated which is a bummer.
@lesslethalfordummies Yeah, it is a tough one to replace. When I message umarex about it, they pretty much told me I would just have to buy a new one. Obviously, the detent can not be completely blown. You'll still be using the roof of the detent to cover up the holes that are in the frame and to have a backstop for all the balls in the magazine which is where the pressure will be applied to prevent the balls from falling out.. However, that part of the detent was never an issue for me when shooting steel ball. I seem to also be getting higher FPS readings with a heavier spring, but I think that's pretty common for most launchers.
@lesslethalfordummies Well, sometimes you gotta push things to the limit to find out what it can truly handle, but it's a bit too dangerous for me, that's why I like to watch you do it, so you guys can work out all the bugs so I don't lose any body parts. 😉 Maybe you can do a video on this process of fixing the details for the compact version? I would, but I'm not a youtuber, and I don't like being on camera.
I just shoot mine doing target practice from it, using 1.4 aftermarket rubber balls, mines is the 7.5 j version, they should hit 420 unmodified on first few shoots, i had a problem with mine trigger stick so i silicone sprayed it and its better but i learn in them built in mag type guns that when amo is loaded, i pull trigger without co2 active because it bends detent!
Its still what i am currently using. Friend from East Coast Less Lethal is send over some printed TPU detents he was working on so I am eager to try those out.

now that im kindda over the WOW of using a step drill , LOL , i wanted to tell you i was considering using a silicone mold to create one when i needed one lol , even though they are made probably by an injection type mold ? . now on this subject , like the crosman vigilante , and the famous crosman 1077 i just couldnt help myself from modding many years ago , i been really looking into the increasing/decreasing theory on the HDP.50 FOR MONTHS NOW ! . increasing co2 exhaust and decreasing co2 air loss , you know what i'm talking about LOL . !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I BEEN TRYING TO COME UP WITH A WAY TO SOMEHOW seal up the area where co2 comes out to blow the ammo down the barrel with affecting the feeding of ammo !!!. just like those two slits on both sides of detents , thats another route for co2 to escape from ????? the most i can get now with just factory parts is 258 fps , (26.24 joules) with a 8.53 steel ball . ITS NOT ENOUGH MY DREAM IS TO GET 30 TO 35 JOULES WITHOUT USING THE AFTERMARKET PARTS TO GET THERE !!!!.... my goal is to get more power just from a 12 gram co2 powerlet so it can be carried on person undetected without having to worry about a ZRAM,CONNECTION,HOSE OR TANK STICKING OUT LOL !!!! i always dreamed of having a 12 gram sized tank that uses re-fillable hpa air @ 3000 to 4500 psi that has a built in regulator in it you can adjust . imagine being able to have one you could easily fill with a high pressure hand pump lol . well keep up the good work my brother , its always going to be a never ending fight to get more power LOL !!!!! :)
I know what you are saying. The pex works but it isnt very pliable and i do believe there may still be some air loss. Problem i had was adding to the od of the pex caused the two halves of the case to split more. I am really hoping these tpu detents are the ticket as tpu is much more more pliable then pex but still hard. I am working on regulation for the hdp but it adds bulk and wont be the dream of staying concealable. You are near the upper threshold at 26-27j on co2. Might be worth experimenting with different ammo to see if you can boost that.
@@lesslethalfordummies yes i agree with everything you are saying , i have seen what 25 to 26 joules does to a tin can at close distance , heck ,even the nylon balls ,deform the cans and goes right through them . one tip i want to give you is to keep a pen and tablet real close for them just waking up in the middle of the night things we all do and write down the ideas that pop in your head at that time . the sub conscience mind of a scientist like us are always solving puzzles while we sleep lol . im getting real close to putting a cap on the limit ,and move onto the HDR's next . again thank you for your awesome contributions to the LTL world my friend !!!
Must ask. My two hdp-50..same problem. Cant trust my "next" shoot, when I pull the trigger it just get stop. No problem with the bullets itself, take bullets out and the trigger work fine. I have check the trigger parts inside..and there are some wear and tear, but not more than It should be after 2000 bullets. Same problem from 100 bullets. Service, take apart often, do to the problem. Is this weapon just junk..like you get what you payed. Mean that a ordinary air gun works better for 100$ Have you the same problem, or can you give me some advice ?
The Umarex line is inexpensive compared to many larger 68cal type devices. If you are choosing LL for your family my advice is spend a little more money and buy something different….but more expensive also comes with its share of problems. Jeez in some places if i could own a powder burner they are cheaper but their consequences are much greater.
@@lesslethalfordummies I have one hdr 50 that are new, people on RU-vid seems to be more happy with that one. That 68 revoler. Some cal 68 have problem, like the bullets just run out of the pipe on it self. Are the revolver better than the HDX 68 ?
@@antisocialsecret7584 just from feedback alone as i dont own an hdr people are much happier. Pros are no stupid barrel seal, can shoot 6 shaped shaped projectiles. Cons are same 6 shot only and much larger platform. Hdp pros are very concealable but was never marketed as 16j version. Cons once cranked up to 16j detent is number one problem. The revolver is better bang for buck over hdx. Shotgun is cool but thats it. Probably never be 80j home wrecker.
Why on Earth is Umarex using a detent that blows apart after mods? It's as if they are deliberately sabotaging people who modify the weapons, to limit their own liability if someone should use a modified launcher to harm or kill a perp.
Even shooting the marker bone stock with Umarex supplied rubber balls its not if, its when will the detent fail. The Umarex line is an inexpensive way to get involved with LL. Good thing there is tons of aftermarket support. The printed detents now perform worlds above any factory stuff.
@@lesslethalfordummies Thanks. I'm very DIY, so can I make my own detents with PEX tubing? In my country (Australia) we have PEX with Outside Diameters (OD) of 16mm or 20mm, with Internal Diameters (ID) of 11.7mm or 15.2mm. It's difficult to change the ID because PEX is so tough. I guess failing that, I should find some who can print one for me, if I can get my hands on the printer specs?
@sun-man i used a unibit to increase the ID of the pex to fit the reduced shank on the barrel and to better size for the 12.7mm steel balls i use. I cannot help you with printer specs since i dont print anything myself. HomeDefence-24 sells printed replacements now as well.
