Hmm, is that really all you need in order to cycle steel ammo with this thing? I thought it would take upgraded springs or something. I bought some .50 steel balls off Amazon and they will fire from my HDP50, as long as you only load one at a time. I can also fire them from my 11J TR50, but it doesn't cycle them well either, even if you jam them in as far as you can. I bought some .50 glass "slingshot" ammo and both markers run those all day, and both of course run nylon and rubber without issue. But I really want to get those steel rounds working, because something tells me that would end a lot of situations more quickly as opposed to the other types.
The problem with the 1/2” steel balls is they are a hair too big and when the loading gate attempts to close during the trigger pull it wedges the next round in the gate which is why if you shoot one at a time it works. Running an aftermarket barrel and detent with a magnet creates better placement of the ball for the gate to close. You can also re-profile the gate if you feel so inclined but it takes some trial and error to get it right.
Hey Brother!, 💡 I just had a thought !,..I think you may have a 7.5 joule version and not the 11 joule? .... i heard there is a big difference when modifying. .. i think the orange/black one is 7.5. The HDR.50 also come in an orange/black 7.5 j, and the 11 joule is all black
You are correct it is 7.5j version but its just a myth as the 11j and 7.5j are physically the same aside from the 11j having a threaded portion to accept a co2 restrictor.
What a superb video! It brings me two questions: (1) How many joules would you get by plugging an external (disposable) 88g CO2 cylinder? (2) What is expected if using a "big" external rechargeable CO2 cylinder (e.g. 20oz) instead of HPA?
I guess the only way to shoot the heavy steel balls is to put a magnet right?I guess magnet keeps ball up ready to fire so that door can slide down preventing co2 escape ? . Be aware folks if you have a 2 piece tuning barrel that’s .495 forget about shooting 12.7mm steel balls ,, they won’t fit thru barrel. They make a .505 tuning barrel which may work I dunno !!!
The magnet is a necessity when using a pex pipe detent. The factory detent works well and does its job but is on borrowed time when the marker is modified.
Something like that 😂 it really does work well. I ordered some steel core riot balls i am hoping to test because this magnetic detent also works wonders in the Cqmf with Canada Riot Balls 9.9g.
Great video Sean. Was than an ASA you had attached between the MCS adapter and tank reg? You're determined to get this ugly HDP over 30 joules for concealed carry. I still think you'd be better off with the HDR. Although it would have been so cool to see what could be achieved using 1100psi. It will be interesting to see what numbers you get with chamber extension. I've ordered one too. Is it the new modify pin that you're getting from Florian? That looks intriguing. Why hello Anna. You would be correct the other adapter below the or in between the MCS was a Gog on/off asa. Hdr was just too bulky but i havent ruled it out yet. I would have tested 1100 but i am on this new kick where lower pressure is my goal. New puncture pin from Florian and chamber extension from Daniel at zram….cant wait.
@@lesslethalfordummies Nonsense. You're a fine figure of man 😉 I personally love the HDR's. Lots of projectile options, no balls falling out issues, no having to mess about with bits and bobs, and they just look better in my humble opinion
Getting the detent to fit is number one. The second thing is to create some sort of stop near the muzzle end of the barrel so that you can just pull the barrel out. The factory barrel has that stepped taper to prevent this. Electrical can work in a pinch, heat shrink, i think Jeff even used a 1/2 copper coupler at one point.
Size of the steel balls youre using?? I just got one of these,dyed the slide,removed the valve block,added the 2 magnets,etc😊..im getting only about 6 shots with a co2 with the steel balls( course testing last night it was only 51 degrees outside)..ill test with chronograph soon to see
In this video i was using 12.7mm ball bearings that weighed 8.35g each. Yes double deleted you can only expect 6 shots. With a restrictor it goes up to 10+ but that cuts the power some.
stupid question .... regardlless of valve delete, why does the upgrade kit come with a restrictor, if having no restrictor is better ? im so confused ... i have the upgrade kit, not yet installed ... with the valve and restrictor
Restriction is personal preference. No restrictor you get approximately 6 powerful shots….well more like 4 and 2 decent ones one co2. Toss the restrictor in and you get 10 or so decent medium powered, stable shots which is better for plinking/practice fun.

@@lesslethalfordummies but what does changing the pin actually do? What is the logic behind changing it ? (I don't mean the puncture pin, but the other one that is inside the black cylinder) Thx again !
The theory behind the pin is too open the valve longer and dump more air but the reality is the factory release point is ideal for getting all the air down the barrel and not being wasted down the feed tube.
How fiddly is it to work on these? I'm not super handy but would also like to at least take mine above factory specs. But I'd hate it by my fumble fingered efforts.
Honestly i was worried at first but a good phillips eye glass screwdriver has prevented me from stripping the tiny screws. I do remind myself every time i tighten them that no ugga duggas aloud. Just snug is all.
Whats the most power in joule one can realistically get out of one of these hdp50 in the short barrel version with 12 gram co2, shooting those 8 gram steel like you are testing with?

I've been scouring youtube for mod/testing videos on hdp50 short barrel/ 12g co2 and haven't found anybody doing even close to that. That is very encouraging. Is your hdp50 capable of this? I haven't seen all your videos on it yet but I'm going to now brother!
Less Lethal 777 hit 33j with a brass barrel in one of his videos. Getting numbers like that requires perfect bore matching using appropriate materials like the brass barrel which is something not commercially available. 31j was my best.
Other guys are not using heavy projectiles. A 1.2g ball will easily hit 500fps but not a 3.5g or even the 8g steel balls that i have been using….at least not on a single 12g co2.
