Umbrella: The Problem Child of Skullgirls 

Just wanted to chime in on a few points for everyone else in the comments: The Canada Cup match you played, while still a good example, is a little bit outdated in terms of counterplay. Against Frank teams you generally want to kill all the way through; Ray actually potentially gave Bee another chance to play by snapping. Just pointing out for any would be future Marvel players. Also while you do sacrifice either a bit of neutral or a real anchor the trafeoff with Frank is you get a strong Anti Meta character with access to things like Gaurd Breaks (Magneto/Dante/Frank can dobtrue 300% setups) and Anti Phoenix which sre both extremely valuable to have in this game. His cart assist is also very good too (and IMO his Pick Me Up meter build is an underutilized assist although its best played by Magneto or Zero. Both of which happen to be the two "endgame" Frank/Dante teams already). Marvel is more heavy on roles of characters in team building than Skullgirls so with Frank teams you're essentially getting a secondary point character which are not as common but still effective team structures. Its important to note specifically that optimizing Frank teams always means tbe point character is going to suffer in some way. I would say by comparison Frank is seen more as a potential liability due to the nature of Marvel. Marvel has much more emphasis on movement and perhaps more emphasis on setplay as well. Thats why more players commonly want a more straightforward team rather than worrying about Frank being leveled or not. I think Frank is more suited for counter picking in today's meta as Leveled Up Frank still has an easier time against certain characters than a common character like Vergil. Spencer was actually mentioned so Id like to point out that Vergil has at best more of a hard time against Spencer than others while Frank can be leveled up very quickly and become one of Spencers worst matchups all of the sudden. Against Phoenix he has consistent anti Pop tech and against high health characters he can spend XF early and not need it for later (almost like a mini Hulk) These would be elements to consider when picking between Frank or another more common character. You can still have success with the character (ask me all about it lol) but Frank is a character that demands specific teams to suit him and you may like to hold onto a pocket for when more neutral is needed as Frank leams much more into pure setplay which he has some of the deadliest.

Great insight on what made old umby problematic, and while i agree in the fact that it was not healthy for the game i do miss the power fantasy of old rav. im still trying to understand her new design, it does feel more well rounded but lacks that clear sign of "im winning now" Like if you cash out and go to overstuffed for dmg or a kill you lose all momentum you had, and you cant camp rav anymore so sooner or later you'll end up in satiated or stuffed the former being an underwhelming state and the latter halting your offensive. Anyway great video, keep em coming there are not a lot of commentary channels that talk about skuggis in a meta type way.
