For all the haters, you really can't judge a band from a suspect quality vid on youtube. See these guys live and you'll get it. The tickets are mad cheap usually. You just have to be patient when listening to these guys. Everything they play constantly moves, whether its building up or breaking down a song. Its very much worth it.
Each jam band has their own soul and feel to it, and if appreciating this type of music makes me a hippie, then that's totally fine with me man. Peace&Love
this is one of my favorite umphrey's songs, and this version is amazing! fyi, u might want to tag "Mulches" as "Mulche's" because i didnt find this one before, and its one of the best versions on you tube
haha it's funny you say that because i used to listen to DT all the time before hearing UM and once the Mantis album came out, i always heard hints of DT in their "epic rock" sound. except for having to hear James Labrie's voice live, that would be THE GREATEST SHOW OF ALL TIME!!!!!
The only thing I listen to anymore. They made the other 1500 songs on my iPod obsolete. Love the higher quality sound podcasts best. And yes, I buy their albums to show my support for all the free stuff and I hope you do too!
you guys should check out their 4/18/09 show from south bend, indiana it is probably one of the besty shows that they have ever done, check out the lights on wappy sprayberry it will blow you mind
Obviously this footage exists.... why is it not on DVD? I was there, in my hay day of UM shows... the night my super fan status occured... front row center
Hands down, greatest band in the US currently touring, and one of the best of all time. You have absolutely no idea what you're missing, and that's fine. I don't want your type to come to shows, it'd ruin the amazing family-like vibe amongst the audience who know what's good for them and for the world.
everyone needs to stop arguing, if youre into jam bands then don't hate the sound. the disco biscuits play with the people from lotus, lotus plays with umphrey's the all know and respect each other. with how much talent these musicians posess as people who can see that, it is up to us to spread the joy and meaning behind these songs... honestly wouldn't you rather they played more of this than lady gaga and kesha and whoever else is the flavor of the moment?
@jeekee8 Primus Sucks is a (now outdated) way of saying that they are awesome (which they are). I sincerely hope he meant that the other bands he listed sucked in the same context
definitely don't tag it as "mulche's". That'd make it easier for UM administration to find and have removed. This wasn't a free UM release. I believe it costs $1.29
This is by far one of the best of the newer jam bands . If you like these guys you probably aren't going to be a dead head ... Or even phishy .... Disco biscuits , lotus r more there style ... I love these guys and all the other bands ,There a jam band for sure. Just not grassie like the cheese or leftover salmon... So many dirrerent styles within the genre ....
Should anyone be surprised that they have some goofy lyrics? Two big influences of this band are Phish and Frank Zappa both of whom had some goofy lyrics as well.
@TheElectricReligion - Agreed! Just when I completely tired of the jam scene for its degradation into "who can rip Jerry's leads the best" I hear Umphrey's live. Some heavy, honest shit that can evoke several emotions from the darkest to the lightest in a single song (a lot like old prog, fusion and Volta). They didn't help me get back into the scene as much as they gave me a new band to obsess over that crosses genres and is truly timeless. So much individual talent here too!
Anybody that can't tell the difference between bands like Umphrey's, Phish, the Grateful Dead, STS9, the Disco Biscuits, Lotus, Widespread Panic, Yonder Mountain String Band, Cornmeal, etc. etc. etc. and the list goes on forever must either be deaf or the most "musically challenged" person on the planet. Every single one of those bands plus a whole slew of others could be in a huge playlist and me or anybody else I know that is familiar with them could pick the artist out basically immediately.
