If you are already in blockstun you can't be grabbed, so the level 3 didn't work. He had to delay it a little more so she wasn't in blockstun anymore, or wait for something like a pushblock.
is it me or does Chris G chooses Morrigan because he needs an extreme zoning character. He uses his other zoning characters for close up fights, but not Morrigan.
