I would encourage everyone using this video as a guide to try the fan before putting the bike back together. If you have a bad fan or messed something up you will have to take it all apart again.
The HD instructions suck. Great job on the video. Made my install so much easier. Thanks! I installed mine with the Mid-frame deflectors, color matched from Hogwartz. Can't wait to go to HD tomorrow and get it flashed to see how it works in the Arizona temps.
@@rtabcum It all depends on when you go to the dealer. I went yesterday and had to return today in the AM because they were swamped yesterday. When I went and got my oil cooler fan flashed, I walked in and they did it right away. They did charge me, $85 for the cool flow fan flash. But, it's a big difference. as soon as I stopped at a light, I could tell it was working. The back of my thighs were't burning up. Well worth the cost, especially in Phoenix heat.
@@jjsz422 I had the cool flow fan on my 14 SGS so I knew I would have one on my 21 RKS and you're right it really make a big difference especially if you add the mid-frame deflectors! Riding around in Tucson this fan really does pull that hot air away from your thighs!
Great video!! I received the wrong instruction with my fan, but was able to download them on the HD site, then I found your video! No instructions needed!! Watched you video all the way through first and doing so enabled me to make a few changes in the order of steps. Before installing the actual fan I did the oil line cover first, this way I had max room to get the hose off and keep the oil from going everywhere. Next I did the wire bundle and then I mounted the fan itself. When it came to the switch I was able to look up underneath my front forks and found the plug, popped the plastic cover off for the switch and wiggled the switch into the hole without having to remove the headlight! Without your video I wouldn't have been able to take these shortcuts! I know it's been a year since you did this video, but did you add the mid-frame deflectors? If not you really should because they really enhance the airflow pull off the rear cylinder! Well I'm going to watch your oil cooler install next because that's my next add on part! Riding in Tucson AZ I need all the cooling I can get for my 21 RKS! Thanks again for the great video!
Good idea. Doing the oil line and stuff before would have been easier. I did added the mid frame air scoop and it worked very well. But after several months. I removed the left side scoop because it was in the way of driver back rest recline lever. Having both the Cool flow fan and the oil-cooler fan really helped when riding through town with the temperature exceeds the upper 90s.
Thanks. Planning to activate fan at 1k service in a few weeks. I just got the Dynojet Vision that can read the engine head temp through the ECU. Will do a video on my findings. So far, at 70 degrees ambient, engine temp goes to 300 degrees in stop and go traffic after 30 minutes. No fan.
Hai Russel…very clear and informative there…thank you much…one question, if I skip install the oil line cover…will it impacting other? Because originally there is no cover on the rubber pipe 🤗…thanks in advance for your respond 🙏🏼
Hi there. The oil line shield is a recommended step. The nylon shield will help prevent chafing with the Cool Flow fan housing. I would recommend to install it because you will notice the oil line will come into contact with the plastic edge of the fan housing.
Doing this on my ‘20 RK, found your vid to see how to get the oil line off the rear head. Mine won’t budge, did yours come off as easily as it looked in your vid? Nice job, used another of your vids to install the same speedo.
The oil line was stuck on but after about a minute of wiggling, it came loose. There is a trick I have done in the past with stuck oil lines. I would use a small dull screwdriver to pry in between the hose and fitting just enough to get the WD-40 to spray in with the small straw. Then use a medium size pliers to turn the tube back and fourth to spread the WD-40 oil inside the tube. I did it until it came loose. Just be very careful not to cut or damage the oil line. Good luck.
Hi Russel…sorry asking again 🤗…after this installation, it need to go to HD dealer right? Or is there any way to activate manually using the factory switch that came inthe box 🙏🏼…thx for your respond 🤗
Hi there. You will need to bring the bike over to the Harley service center to have them activate the fan. I don't know of any other way at this time. Call the HD dealer and see how much to activate the fan. Some HD may do it for free and others will charge a small fee.
LOL doh. I accidentally made a tear on the spark plug wire... i don't think it teared all the way through and i don't see any spark coming out of it but I am going to change them all just in case lol.
Yeah, I thought about making a follow up video on how effective these are but I just don't have enough equipment to provide a definitive answer. As far as how I feel about the Fans, in 90 degrees F, driving in downtown, the bike takes a noticeable longer time to reach 325 degrees. Sitting at the traffic light at idle, the temperature would rise much slower with the fan running. The cool flow fan does effectively keep most of the rising heat away from the driver especially when I have my feet down at the traffic light. So do they work...yes. Are they worth it? Well that is going to depend on each individual perception. I certainly think they are worth it.
The fan helps with redirecting the engine's hot air flow to the ground instead of rising up to the driver's thigh. So for me, yes it does work and keeps me a bit cooler when stopping for a period of time especially during the hot summer days.
Supposed to draw hot air from the engine and blow it down to the pavement. Not sure if it will help to cool the engine. I am thinking its just to keep the heat away from the rider. Going to test and see.
When you say USB, are you refering to USB chargers or USB interface to the bike ECU? For the interface to the bike, I am using the Dynojet Vision. Only monitoring. For USB power, I tap off the accessory connector on the right side in the headlight housing. I have not completed the video on either.
@@Damn_ol_ini I have a video on cell phone and USB charger powered by headlight accessory connector soon to be released. I did not run the power through the gas tank to the Deutch connector as Harley recommmeded.
