If you need to clean a laminate floor, we can show you. If you want to see the grossest floor ever look brand new again, we can show you that too. This floor hasn't been mopped in over a decade. It was covered in grease and dirt. NO kitchen floor should ever look like that.
It took a little trial and error but we made it clean again. A few things that made this extreme cleaning job easier? My O-Cedar mop and Easy-Off, fume-free, of course.

Great job! I have one suggestion to anyone reading this: Please don't rinse the grease down the sink. Grease will build up in your pipes and septic system and the formations of fatbergs (like icebergs) will damage your pipes. It is very expensive to fix the plumbing. It's best to just throw the greasy wipes away instead of rinsing it down the drain.

Fantastic advice. I winced when I saw the grease go down the drain. The only down side to watching this amazing, wonderful video.

My son used to make bacon every day. Then he would dump the grease down the kitchen drain! Can you imagine? Yup within months the drain was backed up. My dad owned the house and was renting it to two of my three sons ( the youngest was still in high school). Luckily my two older sons’ dad was a plumber and was able to clean the drain. Thank goodness. But what a mess! My oldest son no longer puts grease down the drain. 🤨

Luckily, the active ingredient in drain cleaner is sodium hydroxide.... same as oven cleaner. Doubt those pipes will clog since the sodium hydroxide dissolved that old grease so it can be washed away never to offend again.

After 2 years of major depression I finally felt well enough to get my house in order. I hadn’t cleaned that entire time. My house was filthy and I was embarrassed. I found an amazing woman who got my house looking beautiful again. She was compassionate and empathetic. She didn’t say it was disgusting and gross. She didn’t say she wanted to gag. She treated me with such respect and dignity. Typically when a home is this bad, mental health issues are involved. Try coming from a place of compassion when describing how the job made you feel.

Thank u for this comment. I have chronic depression & I go through times I just can't clean. It takes way too much effort. Even loading dishes in the dishwasher seems an impossible task. It's so hard to explain this to some people. I literally physically can't make myself do what needs to be done. Thank you for speaking out. I'm super embarrassed at times about my house. I'm feeling some better & in the process of deep cleaning. I have thought about hiring someone to help but I'm too embarrassed. I think though this might be the best thing. This is the most important comment on this video. THIS is the problem here. We do not do our sons any favors by “shielding” and “protecting” them from cleaning responsibilities while they are growing up in our homes. You are setting them up for unhappiness and potentially misery - like here in this video - by using misogynistic practices in our homes. We need to love our sons enough to make certain they know how to clean and get plenty of practice doing it.

Thank you for not shaming this gentleman too much. Having been widowed 12yrs ago, few understand the crippling downward spiral of depression that can accompany loss which becomes compounded by guilt and shame. I won't get into details, only to say that my house was quite similar to this man's house, if not worse for having three dogs filling the black void. My outdoor living space and my public image was that I was fastidious and overly organized so one suspected. I could not bring myself to ask anyone for help ... but secretly prayed for someone to save me from myself. Do yourself a favor, folks. One crucial cleaner she did not test is vinegar. The only cleaning products I have in my house are vinegar, ammonia and I occasionally will resort to bleach. Choices like this I largely attribute to not being on a single medication at 60. But distilled white vinegar is amazing in its versatility, speed and efficiency and the vinegar smell lasts for only a short period; not even a day. And, yes, LOVE me my OCedar Spin Mop!

This is a great video and help for someone who is facing years worth of grime. I was an in home caregiver to several clients and in no way, shape or form was it my job to clean those messes but I did anyway to make a difference in how they had to live . I figured I was there anyway for a certain time span that I would make the most of it and it made time pass fast anyway so I would find myself doing jobs like this over and over. Thanks for being a sweetheart to your family member. You'd be surprised how many families don't give a thought to help a love one. You're an angel

I love that you took it upon yourself to clean other areas that sorely needed it, for the sake of your clients and their environments. Having compassion takes many forms. I don't do this as often as I'm prompted to, but I have at times thought about what I could do for someone that would just delight them, lift their spirits..totally unexpected. And not expect or wait for a response from them. You have a great opportunity with what you do - Thanks for sharing!

I've done the same but unfortunately family members would come visit and remark how clean everything is then start to badmouth the other caregivers for not cleaning. My oldest son is a complete slob and I have been frustrated with how he has kept his room for years (We live together). What I discovered is that he actually LIKES being in a cleaner space but doesn't know how to go about it. He has tolerated my deep cleaning of his room which usually takes a full day. I also had an Aunt who lived this way. She would put on clothing and makeup immaculately but lived in waist high filth. I just can't wrap my mind around some of that. I moved into my grandparent's old farm house a few years back to bring life back to the place. My uncle lived here until he died and was a hoarder. The kitchen and dining room floor was black and it took me weeks of being on my hands and knees scrubbing by hand to bring the old floor back. The flooring was from the 70's so you can imagine the colors...LOL!! I wanted to keep as much of the original design as possible and will be using things from the farm to decorate the house when I finish painting. The house is surprisingly in excellent shape, not much to rebuild on...had to completely gut and redo the whole bathroom though...and next will be the closed in side porch...but the carpet in the hallway and living room is older than me...and will stay for now. It isn't a gawdy color..just dark green and in excellent shape. Again..keeping as much original as it was when my grandma was here. I love the old look and believe in using what you already have if you can bring it back to life. Using single trees to make towel racks, old wooden ladders as towel racks, blanket racks, old window frames I found in the packing house as picture frames....the ideas are endless with so much history from an old farm to use. And most of the original furniture is still here and in great shape.

It was amazing to see this, partly for your generosity and partly because I know how urgent and widespread this problem is. Some people struggle because they are chronically ill, disabled and/or elderly and many don't know how to clean and maintain a home. Cleaning is looked down on, as if it is something anyone can do. This attitude makes me really annoyed. It can also happen that places get into a bad state and the person gets overwhelmed. Here in the UK, all the agencies that get funds to help people _do not do cleaning_ . If I ever get the money together, I am going to start a home help charity. If someone has a home that has got into a bad state, then get trained people in to do a deep clean. Then carefully show the homeowner _how_ to do each cleaning job. If an elderly or disabled person is not able to do certain jobs, then they could get regular help. There would be so many benefits to this.

To save time, I will sort-of bullet point. * I am much older than you and (embarrassing though this is to admit) I come from a background in England where I learned nothing about cleaning and maintaining a home. Frankly, it didn't occur to anyone that I would ever have to do it for myself. My life didn't exactly pan out that way. * In the old days (30 years plus) hospitals were pristine. The cleaning staff was made up of ladies who learned housekeeping skills from their mothers, who learned from their mothers and so on. The hospitals had almost no diseases from within. Then, partly to save money and partly because the powers-that-be knew nothing of the _skills and knowledge_ necessary to clean properly they got rid of all these women. It was also assumed cleaning was a job any idiot could do (grr). I cannot say, because it might be misconstrued, who they employed to clean hospitals, but with minimal "training" they were employed. There are other reasons, but the hospitals got progressively dirtier. Diseases became rife. I have been in a hospital where there is blood in the sink. I didn't say anything to see how long it would stay there. A week. I was discharged at this point so don't know how much longer it stayed there for. * I am now chronically sick and disabled (this sounds grim, but I have faith and a sense of humour, so happy as a clam!). Thanks largely to RU-vid, I am doing all I can to learn to clean and maintain a home. * Recently, I had a bad health problem, nearly died and ended up in hospital. We have a problem we call, "bed-blocking". This means that the (usually) elderly person cannot go home because there is no "care package" in place. This is a hospital service that usually lasts for 6 weeks and is supposed to ensure the vulnerable person has what they need to get back on their feet. Good idea badly executed. The system (along with all the private ones) don't do what is usually needed. They do have loads of meetings, more meetings and a few more meetings. the girls (loath to call them women) replace efficiency with rudeness. Once at home, my experience was they weren't allowed to get me a pint of milk, pick up medication or make a bed I had thrown up in. Cleaning of any sort was a big no-no. University graduates with a million meetings, a million more "assessments" and a few more meetings, but no one wants to roll up their sleeves and make the bed of a disabled woman. * I have since learned that there is a massive problem. Elderly people having to go into nursing homes because they can't afford to pay someone to do household chores and they cannot manage. Perhaps they can manage some jobs, but they can't manage others. Even companies that are privately run do not help with cleaning. If you look at deep cleaning programmes in the UK, they are framed negatively. The host does everything they can to humiliate the homeowner. The structure of modern life means many people do numerous jobs just to make rent and people no longer live near family. Family that is all too often fractured and dysfunctional. Culturally, family is no longer on the menu so selecting it is not always an option. These are just a few thoughts based on personal experience. The fact that there are currently so many programmes showing homes that are totally out-of-control indicates that this is a problem many people are struggling with. A bout of depression, an illness, a trauma such as being mugged can land someone in a home where the mess and dirt becomes too overwhelming to manage. I have also been mulling with the idea of teaching young people home management along with other life skills. I certainly know that learning how to clean and maintain a home is a skill that will greatly elevate a life - or even help save one. I hope these thoughts will be of interest to you.

@@CleanFreakGermaphobe I know several people who work in social services that come around and clean homes for the disabled or elderly- this is paid for by the state to avoid the cost of a nursing home. From their POV, it's cheaper to keep them housed and have someone visit periodically than institutionalize them. You should look into such programs for your relative.

@@sisterkerry I pray you see this. I’m in So California and I’m disabled too. I used to be a clean freak but for my illness, some serious dental issues, two car accidents and my 90 year old mother getting sick has prevented me from keep my home up while getting the kitchen redone…literally the cabinets were coming off the walls!!! So I put all the money I could into fixing the kitchen and got ripped off! My son is trying to help me but it’s a slow process. Also in America there’s no cleaning help unless you pay for it yourself. If you don’t have family, I have a son that doesn’t live close and my mother is 90, so I have no help. My friends have all moved out of the state and I regret that I couldn’t move too. The situation here is dire and it’s overwhelming just seeing what happens to the homeless and the disabled. All I can do is pray and do what I can. Please know you’re not alone. I will keep you in my thoughts and I hope we both will pull though and be able to help others since we both know what really needs to be done.💖👍🙏🏻

@@christhomas4505 Do you mind me asking which country provides this service? I live in the UK and although pretty noises are made, no such provision exists. I would be very interested to know more about the country who does this.

You are a blessing!!!!!! Older adults also may be dealing with vision issues, depression over loss of a loved one. There are many many older adults where ONE does the finances and the OTHER takes care of the household chores. When there is a loss of one of them, the other has NO idea what to do. It was a different generation and getting older and less able to care for oneself is itself a challenging and overwhelming ordeal. You are doing the Lord's work here on earth no only for helping him, but instructing him on how to maintain a healthy and safe living situation. Great cleaning ideas too!!!

Bless your heart for your kindness in caring so much for your family member. Great job too. The floor looks great. It is so important to use our brains in figuring how to do certain things. Our society has forgotten how to do things and figure things out for themselves to help others. Thanks for the video. ❤

Simple green is amazing stuff too. Natural - non toxic too. Spray it on, let it sit. Then your steam cleaner or mop . The swiffer leaves a ton of residue too. Great for muddy footprint type things, but I prefer my mop & bucket for real cleaning. Great job & ty for helping someone.

I agree and I always notice those swiffer things put out in the garbage, hardly used. The old fashioned mop and bucket is much stronger and every time I use, I just toss the mop head in washer and it's clean. That company did some great marketing. Their commercials make real mops look gross. Good marketing that is just not true !!

Good suggestion, if she faces this again she should try Simple Green.

I read an article on Simple Green. In case anyone cares, it turns out Simple Green is not ecofriendly at all. They put green in the name so it would seem to be, to sell more product. It might work well, but not "green" as in good for the planet. Of course, Easy Off isn't either. On a floor like that (!!!) I don't know what natural product would do the trick.
