Join Max Evans with Adrian Beil and Alejandro Alcantarilla Romera for an aerial tour of the Space Coast's bustling activities. This month, we look into the ongoing projects at Kennedy Space Center, including SpaceX's upgrades at Roberts Road and the preparations for Blue Origin's New Glenn at Exploration Park, the construction surge at LC-39A and the proposed expansions at Port Canaveral to support the increasing launch cadence.

holy crap, I google mapped the port canaveral and i cant believe almost the whole port operates out of the west turning basin. the middle and east basin are almost completely un used by being in the space force base. you'd think rockets being ITAR and military controlled would grant them access to port in the middle and east basins, which would free up a lot of needed port access.

The base of the OLIT at LC39A is elevated several metres higher above the water table than OLIT1 at Boca Chica. This gives SpaceX the option of digging a flame trench similar to the one currently under construction at Massey's. Remember that the explosion that blew up the concrete during IFT1 was because the heat of the launch boiled the water below the concrete. I suspect that OLIT2 at Boca Chica will be erected on top of a couple of metres of landfill to separate the heat of liftoff from the water table.

I bet the new OLM will be dropped down to ground level, with a ridiculous flame trench, in order to be able to launch Starship V3. It took the largest movable crane in the world to erect the tower, going higher would be a huge engineering issue, and V3 is too tall to fit with an elevated OLM. But dropping the OLM will allow it to fit.

I didn't see any upgrades to Blue Origins PR team, it's a shame they have such a bad rep, but I guess suing NASA will do that. You'd think they might try and fix that damage. It's weird how two billionaires can produce such different atmospheres to their boyhood dreams. I'm rooting for both, but SpaceX are divisions ahead of Blue Origin, there's just not even a competition between them at this stage.
@Vatsyayana87
@Vatsyayana87 22 дня назад
From what i hear, suing in this business is just normal actions expected during any disagreement. Spacex has sued NASA as well. I feel like blues bad rep is mostly from talking and acting like an all star player while playing catch in a field somewhere with 30 foot walls. They have been a rocket company for like 20 years and have never even tried to go orbital yet, its just annoying.

Cape wont let them launch without a Proper Flame Trench
@Vatsyayana87
@Vatsyayana87 22 дня назад
If that were true, You would think that would reflect in decisions being made at the cape, things like the starship tower originally having plans for a trench like diverter then scrapping it to work on a water plate would suggest you are probably mistaken about what the cape would or would not require. It seems to me they have proven trenches are not a necessary thing for even the largest of launch vehicles.

Elon, I see you don't understand how the shape of the starship affects its safety during reentry. Structural changes is a must. My advice is please think about the starship as about a boat, landing on the surface of water with extreme speed. You shouldn't have arc shape of the Starship's bottom (belly). This is not a barrel. It tends to rotate because of arc bottom, as if it was a barrel landing on the surface of water with extreme speed. It will not swim smoothly, it will constantly rotate, as it was during the last landing. The bottom part (belly) of the starship body should be flat, as the bottom part of any boat is. Did you see NASA solutions? Wings of Challenger? Their solution was flat bottom. Slide, not dive. Starship is "landing" on the surface of the atmosphere, as a boat on water. The atmosphere to the vehicle with speed 40000km/h has consistency of water to the boat. Reentry is similar to swimming across the surface of the atmosphere, and should last as long as the speed will slow down in a natural way, due to friction. Don't push Starship to dive into atmosphere. What you expect is that a barrel with speed 40000 km/h will smoothly enter deep water. No way! It will rotate, jump, it will dive and jump, and constantly rotate, as it was the last time. This is why all steering features were broken, they were too weak for such an endeavor. When you make the starship (means a barrel) flat from the "bottom" (belly), it would be much easier to put tiles on the flat surface, maybe make a kind of "keel" to make the starship more steady, and starship will smoothly enter deeper parts of the atmosphere as the result. You have time, do not hurry, starship must slide over the upper part of the atmosphere, give it time, and make it more like a boat, not a barrel. Structural changes!
@snakevenom4954
@snakevenom4954 22 дня назад
A flat bottom is a horrible idea. That means edges that would be a weak point. Especially since the walls of Starship is the walls of the tank. So those edges would see tremendous stresses. Secondly, a round bottom is stronger and provides a larger surface area to slow down with. The flaps are there to provide extra drag and control the ship in the thicker parts of the atmosphere. Also, what ships have a flat bottom? Lake ships that don't have to worry about rough seas? Ships in the ocean do not have flat bottoms. They have a knife edge bottom that's round on the sides. That offers more stability. And how does a ship remain stable in rough seas? From their stabilizers. Not rutters or whatever you said. There's a reason why essentially every ship is round. It's not an aesthetic choice
@Vatsyayana87
@Vatsyayana87 22 дня назад
First Elon doesnt work here so im not sure who you think your talking to. Its pretty "bold" of you to act like you know more about rocketry and re-entry then the leading rocket company in the world.. Especially odd when you dont know some basic level stuff, such as, at these speeds the atmospheric interaction is no longer friction based but compression. Entering the atmosphere at orbital speeds isnt anything comparable to boats on water. Also not all boat have a flat bottom as you claim, different classes of boats use different shaped hulls depending on how they need to move. Yes a barrel free falling will act erratically, thats why they have control surfaces, The reason the last launch was uncontrolled seemed to be because the RCS was not operating, i wish i knew why. Could have been damage to the sensors or operating system, could be frozen valves, too low of ullage pressure so the computer wouldnt allow any to be used for RCS. We dont know, but i cant tell you one thing, it will be solved in short order. Side note, rockets are the shape they are for a few reasons, a big one being the constraints of the rocket equation and the square cubed law. The closer they are to a sphere the closer they are able to hold the max amount of fuel, since a sphere sucks at flying in a controlled manner at high speed they compromise to a long sphere, a cylinder. Shuttle was a one off exception to the rule and could never accomplish what this vehicle needs to.
@Syritis
@Syritis 21 день назад
you know this isn't a spaceX video right? also you see to have absolutely no idea about atmospheric reentry and heating let alone the actual issues starship experienced during re entry.
