Those addons are good when you learn a new class or spec. Otherwise you Just become a button presser... you dont have to do anything except pressing the right key...

A couple points I'd like to make: - On the Supported Rotations page, WIP typically means that the addon has been updated, but isn't a spec that any of the active devs play often, so it may have quirks we can't/haven't seen/verified. KO is completely unsupported currently (only Fire Mage and Brewmaster Monk, aside from healers, right now). - Healers are not supported, as stated, because of their reactive nature. In Shadowlands, they had minimal dps-only support, but I haven't had the time to add that support in Dragonflight. - Tanks are actually supported fairly well. We try to first stick to the Simulationcraft APL, then manually add in defensives handling. - There are currently a few specs that are not up to date for 10.1 and still using their 10.0.7 rotations. These are being updated as quickly as I can get to them. Unfortunately, it takes quite a while to update a spec. - We are always open to suggestions. Anyone can feel free to join our Discord (link on the github page). I'm available quite often to speak with about bugs/ideas/suggestions. - Bugs can be submitted via our github issues page or via Discord. I prefer & suggest Hekili, you can also make it more transparent & show like the incoming 5-6 key to press, so get more used to know whats goin on , when to hold CD. it is a very strong rotation helper and lots of high rio players still use it as it can help a lot to focus on the actual gameplay (kicks,cc,defensive,position etc)
I have used Hekill and it seems ok for beginners or specs you are learning however I heard your dps will suffer because it is a generalization not best case rotation.
I use hekili. I play a lot of alts, can't help myself but I am terrible at remembering and learning rotations for all the classes and specs. I like to play whatever spec whenever the mood strikes me. I highly recommend using Hekili to anyone who plays numerous alts or if someone just want some help to get a hang of the rotation before abandoning the addon later.
ConRO, shows what you need to cast next and not just the actual cast, supports defensive CDs, you can choose ST / AoE / Auto, and feels way better on screen

definetly the one to go! U can setup your own apl. u can tell the addon which spells to avoid and which to show, even if these should be on the main frame or shown sepperately, interrupt and so on. if you dig deep in the settings u can make yourself a very good "helper" which will tell you when and where to act like you should :D
I think my least popular addon that I think is awesome is Mount Journal Enhanced. It just gives you a lot more search options, also cleans up the UI a little. For an older addon Announce Rare I think everyone should have, it isn't that useful in newer content, but being able to auto link the rares name, location, % of health left, and a map pin is pretty slick.
Should just use Hekili. Its basically the same thing but is highly customizable and has rotations for every spec. Its updated constantly and takes its info from icy veins. I play every class in the game so its a life saver not having to memorize everything and all the constant changes.
I use this addon on tank warrior, it makes me generate rage soo fast. And as disc priest for dps healing, its gets helps me get high dps and healing without getting panic. You just need to compose your rotation manually.
The "GSE" addon works in a similar way. The difference is that GSE creates a Button (similar to a macro) and every time you press it, the rotation advances. GSE = Rotation in a single key. Spam the key = Free Rotation :)
I used to be very survivable but since we now have so many spells in a rotation I find myself staring at the spell icons and missing mechanics. I really don't like an addon telling me what to do but I might try this at least on my alts.
I click for all my abilities and spells I also don't use macros I just don't like that one button rotation that everybody likes to use even though I know it make it more easier for me to use the one button rotation but I've been clicking since the beginning I have never used macros I've tried a couple of times but just never worked out so I stick with clicking my spells and abilities I also use the arrow keys to move or w s a d to move but either works for me
I use Hekili so when mechanics or emergency taking over a mechanic duty, it can help you find you flow again. I turned off CDs and potion usage so I decide when. There is also the times on heavy rng classes when whack a mole becomes an issue that these helpers cant keep up. Again they will help you learn but take it and run with it on your own.
I used to use hekili, but I’ll be honest I’ve improved significantly since removing it and fully learning my rotation and understanding my class. It’s helped significantly. I’d recommend eventually turning the rotation helpers off.
why? I have never understood, why people ALWAYS say "Oh it helped me but I turned it off" Like that makes you better than someone who has it on? Please fill me in cause I have been using hekili, tell me when and clcret for years, and have ALWAYS bee top to high dps on whatever class I play because it gives me understanding...AND frees up having to CONTSTANLY LOOK AT CD timers, my situation awareness is higher than ever because muscle memory takes over for what buttons to hit instead of constantly looking at cooldowns...I have HEARD peoples keys boards on mics and it is exhausting to hear....I have no such problems and my wrists are fine. So explain to me WHY is it a FLEX to "TURN IT OFF" or abandon it?

Hekili was recommending bullshit that wasn’t needed in my rotation and once I sat down and drilled my opener over and over and learned how my procs worked and what not my gameplay improved drastically. I’m aware that you can remove the spells you don’t need and make custom rotations, but instead I turned it off, got on the rogue discords and just learned my character. How is that a flex? What seems like a flex to me is talking about how you constantly top the DPS charts… I could give a shit whether you use it or don’t use it. Whatever floats your boat. I use weak auras to track my cooldowns. Works for me. Hekili was great for me in the beginning but I didn’t really take my own gameplay to the next level until I started understand not just what to use but WHEN to use it. Hekili would want me to blow my load on a small trash mob and be on CD for the boss if I just followed blindly. Do you man. I’m just saying I improved when I stopped using it. It’s not a flex, it’s a fact. Hekili off = improved performance, for me personally. If using it improves your performance then obviously keep it on. There’s tons of guys that will shit on hekili, but I used to like it a lot and it helped me so much in the beginning when I didn’t know shit. Now I know and it’s not needed for me to run my proper rotation.
@@NeoFireFly also if you can run +15 to +20 mythics with hekili then more power to you. No chance in hell I could. It’s hard enough to keep up with mechanics, affixes, interrupts, and doing your rotation efficiently. No shot I could give up my weak auras and track CD’s using hekili with its limited upcoming ability view. So much easier for me to pay attention to the dungeon and mechanics at hand and just let muscle memory take over.

ALSO to add you need common sense as well everything you said makes no sense because even thought he ADDON tells you it is STILL up to you to use it at the proper time IE cooldown and what not, and as it recommending things you don't use...you DO realize Hekili is not some random recommendation but is built based up perfect simulations frim simcraft and the APL that gets updated when it is needed. I sit top DPS in most things I do my time is spent more on knowing the fights and mechs than worrying about my rotation which allows for better DPS...while my guildmates and other have to juggle watching CD's Buffs and procs Mine is ALL FACTORED in so I ma not sure how someone using one of these tyes of addons feels lesser to some people, I have in the past been dogged on for using such an addon..
I found this on my journey of finding a useful rotational add-on because I've got so many alts and haven't even decided on what to main, so I'm switching all the time. For my Affliction Warlock, I've found that most of the add-ons don't really work. Despite usign mostly the same SimCraft database, they're suggesting wildly different rotations to me and all of them seem kind of weird and broken, both intuitively and when compared to written guides. For example, most of them tell me to recast my DoTs even when the mob is dying in a second, so Unstable Affliction wouldn't even be able to go through at all, anymore, not even talking about having time to tick. It also ignores the health threshold that ups my Soul Drain damage massively while also allowing me to regenerate needed Soul Shards. The one I've found to be the best for my Affli is "Conflict Rotation Optimizer (ConRO)". It mostly works and works well enough to let me develop a general understanding of the basic rotation. Now Hero Rotation I did test as well but for my Affli, it didn't work at all. From what I've researched, the "team" behind the add-on consists of one guy doing the Rogue implementation - he's said to be the guy who creates the meta rotations that all the guides use as well. so it''s pretty good (can confirm ) - and one guy doing everything else, which is why everything else can be kind of bad. No idea how recent this information is, but at least the add-on does get updated. Kind of. Just today, there's bin a merge of new Github commits. That being said, I didn't look into how active the actual makers are. Honestly, at least as a beginner, finding a good rotation add-on is not easy, especially if you can't tell if one is good or not without trying it out for some time. Hekili, for example, the one you find mentioned everywhere, worked just as badly for my Affliction Warlock as Hero Rotation. MaxDPS doesn't work at all anymore and that's about it for availability.
I may have to try this. I was using MaxDPS until it never got updated, to now using Hekili with Spellflash. This may be a viable option. Although, it reminds me of MaxDPS because you have to have each class/spec in its own folder which will eat up resources.
Add-ons such as these are very helpful for new players and also people who want to try new specialisation. However, the drawback from this type of add-ons is that it makes you reliant on it. Why learn when I can just use the add-on to tell me how to play my class.
I think its a great addon for new players but it dosent max out your dps. For exanple if you are in a dungeon it will tell you to use your big cds in every pack but somtimes you want to holdback on them to use them on a bigger/scary pull or it tells you to use cds when you finish a mob with 20% health instead of keeping it for the next pull.
Then thats when you hold back on your CDs. You dont have to use it. And besides, the addon Hekili...you can disable big CDs and spells and tell them when to pop like only boss fights, etc. It helps me remember when use buttons. Lol. I forget alot and its nerve wrecking. I use Enhance Shaman and i always forget to use feral spirit. This addon helps alot.
MaxDPS used to be my favorite, but the author hasn't updated modules for it in years, only the core addon, so I went with Hekili, then customized it to be like MaxDPS, so now it lights up the spells to use.
Just a short idea to reduce the overwhelming information on the screen: remove the damage numbers (you can still use any form of scrolling combat text at the sides), reduce nameplate opacity to 65% unless it’s your current target. Remove skada/recount for damage done overall and just get shortcut in the addon for checking after a dungeon. I learned about the damage numbers and nameplates from playing Diablo 3, there was just to much stuff I actually didn’t care about and which were detrimental to my performance.
Isn't this just Hekili? I like Hekili more, it shows you the next 3 moves you need to use in your rotation. I keep it on for my boomkin and warlock, I hate dot management. Hekili also tells you when to use cooldowns, and works for all classes.
So many elitist jerks don't understand what a rotation helper is actually for. I use them for the same reason you do: learning a new spec or a spec I haven't played in forever. It helps you get a feel for the builders and spenders and how they play off of one another. My wife has played Druid for over a decade but she had never tried tanking before. We went into a normal dungeon and I gave her a general breakdown of what abilities do what and how to use them and _boom_ she was tanking. The rest she started learning on her own and tweaking her play style. What I did for her was no different than what a rotation helper does... and so many people shit on the people who use them.
Because we learned the hard way, with sweat and tears😆 nah it's fine if people use it don't bother! Me personaly I don't like these I am used to play without addons anyway. I don't want an addon who tells me what to do, like healbot for example. But I trained for years so.. I get it if it helps people and make them love the game more it's perfect! And rotations can be pretty hard nowadays. Sorry for my english
I just discovered this as I'm trying to get all the Mage Tower sets. That means playing classes and specs I've never played before with unique talent combinations so I can't just look up a rotation guide, because Mage Tower talents are bespoke for just that boss. But in future, I'm going to use it when I'm learning a new alt.
I use Hekili. Best rotation addon. And i still use it as an experience player. I dont care what people think. As long as i can use my utilities correct and at the right moment and my dps is not shit, no one is complaining.
I have been playing from almost day 1 and took a break of 3yr and now I"m back and this video was a life saver for the game for me. I was about to stop playing I had forgot so much. Thanks you for making it!
I use HeroRotation when switching to a toon I haven’t played before .. it usually helps show me the rotation to use laid out on wowhead in a little on screen box
I've gotten a couple top ten mythic raid parses using hekili back in the day. I probably followed it's recommendations 95% of the time. Some classes work better than others, obviously.
Hekili does the same thing and can be strung out to four executions so you know what's coming up. Also Hekili calculates on the fly so if your situation changes it'll give you the best alternative action based on that and then get you back to your normal rotation. The annoying thing about Hekili is it factors in your trinkets, pets, cool downs and you can turn only one of them off. So you are stuck with the rest and sometimes what you need to disable is not in the list, that's why I string out my future actions into four so I can skip the annoying action and go directly to the next one. I tend to save cooldowns until I really need them. In the interest of max DPS Hekili will tell you to bust a cool down whether you need it or not.
Using Hekili for years, that is practically the same thing. I have it config'ed so i see 3 spells ahead, so you know what's coming next. Good tutorial. 👍

This add on is great for new players/low keys or starting a class that you don't know or aren't used to. But if your needing this add on as you try to start pushing 20+, then you definitely need to actually learn your rotation and all your abilities/talents rather than staring at this bar. Personally never used one until this season because i do enjoy using it on my Enhance shaman in raid trying out different talent builds, as i don't have much experience with Enhance. Mechanics, kicks, stuns, defensive and group utility usage are the other main factors that determine 'skill level' and how high you can push, So i would definitely recommend this add on starting out a new class or in Raid
Hekili does this and allows more than this one as cds, interrupts, defensivas, pots and potions. It shows up to the next and third ability to use and plus it is just one add on to install opposing to the three that you need for this one. Hekili I’m my opinion is far more complete and very user friendly
I think it all depends on if WA, Hekili, or this uses the proper rotation. Some I believe it just tells you "this is best" but not "You need to be pushing this one" for best dps. I think you should focus more on the Mechanics aid if it does that, and not DBM.
As other commentors have already stated, these sorts of addons are tools to help you learn a spec and the flow of the rotation. How best to use that information is up to you. These addons do not have plugins for dungeons or raids so will not tell you to hold CDs for XY or Z but merely press the button to do the most damage. The assumption the addon will always make is that the mobs is going to be alive for ever and that you do not need to move for any mechanics. So you have to know know the fight or dungeon or when you do you need max dps. I use hekili as you can see a decent queue of abilities - you can also disable things like major class CDs if you want so that you can only see the core rotational abilities. This is great for classes where you have 1 major CD that just is a flat DPS increase, however classes like Sub rogue or Fire Mage or super reliant of CDs for their damage you need to have them on. Or also classes that have a lot of CDs where the order is very important - like Unholy DK. Overall it won't do the job for you but you can use them to practise on target dummies to get used to an opener or the general flow of your rotation - after that you can / should disable them unless you're using them as a visual tracking guide for abilities coming off CD so you know roughly how many GCDs there are before you can use something again
i got to check this out, i just returned to WoW last time i played was lith king expac. Haven't joined any raids or end game content because i dont have the endless time to play like i used to and was able to figure all this out.

This may help with the basics but it will never compare to the knowledge and situational awareness of knowing the spec and content you are doing yourself to tackle the many nuanced situations in the game. This is training wheels, nothing else.

I have one called Hekili. It's helped dps but overall it's kind of wack. ESPECIALLY FOR BOOMKIN. Boomkin is kind of weird in the first place going back and forth between solar and lunar.
Hekili is far superior and covers complicated classes to the depth they should be covered. Hekili is also far older and based on Simulation craft action priority lists. "Rotation" is a very old term that should not be used anymore, action priority is a better term. You perhaps should start using it. :) Hekili is also switchable between Minor, Major, AOE, Cleave, and Single target priority lists. Even trinkets show up. Hekili has done a lot of work for someone to plagiarize it. There are classes where things like these addons are a mere "reminder" of "where" you are in your priority list. Following them strictly is a pure DPS loss.
@stillsolo Understood, but I favor supporting Hekili. Who created the original and spent countless hours coding it, while keeping up with real life work. He was almost forced ny real life to declare the project dead, but hundreds of players came through and made it financially make sense for the investment. DBM recently went through this.
This might be ok for warriors and a few...easy classes, but a general WA setup is more useful than this. Personally i've played my class long enough to the point where my action bars are completely hidden, and i only track a WA with a few abilities. The issue with this addon, and for example your layout. You can't tell when XYZ CD is going to be ready, if you want to check that you need to move your eyes from centre to all the way to the bottom to look at your action bars. A simple WA with 7x2 layout is more than enough for 99% of the classes these days
About time an addon like this was created as I play multiple alts. At times when I'm away from playing a certain class/spec I lose some of my muscle memory. Not only that, class weak auras take so much visual real-estate, this way I can adjust my weak auras to only show certain spells and abilities rather than having all in the middle of my screen. I can't judge by all the specs and classes, for sub rogues this addon shows a totally wrong rotation and spends cd in the wrong order, if you use it as a sub rogue then your dps will be much less than you will use your brain
Yea i think hekili did it better - they both have similar issues to not all of your abilities but hekili has more customization options and works on just about every spec and you dont have to download additional add ons causing more lag
addon seems to prioritize aoe even if its only two targets, is there a way to change this? Also, can you remove defensive cooldowns from always showing up?
@stillsolo What's the difference between this addon and Hekili? I just started using Hekili and it seemingly does the exact same thing and it definitely works... got me 99 parses on 4 of the fights in Aberrus (normal mode, but still).... Ret paladin btw.
Im sorry to say but Hekili is way better. You can set it up however you please. Make sure a certain ability dont show or it will show during boss encounter and so forth. Its great.
