In this video, I'm using lidar maps and dowsing rods to find gold in a creek.
What is "Dowsing For Gold"? WikiPedia says:
"Dowsing is a type of divination employed in attempts to locate ground water, buried metals or ores, gemstones, oil, claimed radiations (radiesthesia),[1] gravesites,[2] malign "earth vibrations"[3] and many other objects and materials without the use of a scientific apparatus."
I thought I would purchase some dowsing rods and give them a try. This is difficult for me because I'm a believer in science. I had to put aside my entire belief structure and force my mind to believe in dowsing. There were some other gentleman on the creek at the time and I had to explain to them that I was doing a RU-vid video and that I would be dowsing (I was a little embarrassed). As it turns out I did find gold with the dowsing rods. Coincidence? Maybe. I don't know.
Anyways, tf you're thinking of dowsing for gold, then you should definitely watch this video! I was skeptical at first, but after trying it out myself, I can tell you that it really works! Dowsing works for metal detecting too. Hang a silver needle on white thread over a general map of the site first. then dowse on site. Been detecting since the 70's and it works for me with some pretty good finds.

Be sure and ask " is there a 1/4 oz gold nugget or larger that I can find that is in this stream 100 feet left or right of me? Yes? Can I easily dig it out? Yes? How deep in the mud is it? 8 inches deep? Please indicate direction to start..."

I used to dowse a lot more than I do now, I did use rods and a pendulum. Keep it up and may you always have a Flash In Your Pan!

I’m going to use the rods again when I go prospecting this weekend. First I study the creek water dynamic’s, then I find a likely spot, then I break out the rods to get me a little closer. Then I dig test holes.

I will point out that you found nothing using science, yet you found gold with dousing. I douse for gold all the time, and it has found me some very nice deposits.

Hi Crusty, there are unwritten rules in Maryland when it comes to prospecting on public (Federal/State/County) lands: 1. Be quiet. Most creeks and streams are near peoples homes. 2. Don't use any equipment powered by anything other than batteries, and even then make sure that there is no noise above the natural trickle of the creek. No noisy high bankers, absolutely no trommels, etc. 3. Don't go prospecting with more than one other person. You might need to park on the side of the road and you don't want to attract attention. 4. Leave the place cleaner than when you left it. Pick up not only your trash but any other trash you see lying around. 5. Read rule number 1 several times We add some benefit: 1. We clean up the creek. The old timers used mercury to gather the gold. I've come across quite a bit of the gold with mercury attached. I safely remove it from the creek. 2. We pickup trash 3. We add to the romance of the old days. When a person looks out their window and sees a lone prospector panning for gold (e.g., using a pan) it reminds them of how it was in the late 1900s. Is it legal to prospect on Federal/State/County lands in Maryland? The answer is unclear. On government sites I've seen 1. Definitive "No", 2.Yes, with permission, 3. Yes, as long as you don't take anything of historical value (e.g., Civil War artifacts, etc.). Sorry about the long answer. I see that you've developed a trommel, which is pretty damned cool. By the way I live in Bethesda right next to you!

It can work well for you but like many other things you have to practice with it and fine tune your skills.

I ended up in the hospital for quite awhile during Covid and the docs did some bad damage to my heart and lungs so I was tied down to an oxygen machine for over a year. I’m getting to the point I can work a bit each day in the shop. I have a number of projects I’m hoping to get built and up this year. Hope you have a great year.

@@FlashInYourPan absolutely don’t trust them. 88 docs so far and not a bit of help from any of them. We had many very heavy snows last year. I watched where the plows piled the snow in the big parking lots. The snow melted and left piles of dirt that got scraped off the parking lots and mixed in with the snow. I swept the dirt up into buckets and panned some of it and go some nice gold. I went back and vacuumed a 3x5 foot section I had swept and got 3 grams more that was caught in the rough surface. Got lots more from other lots. So I’m going to be mining the parking lots again next spring. Lots of gold gets dropped off from cars in parking lots.

The physics involved in dowsing have been reverse engineered. Read and study the book, The Art of Dowsing - Separating Science from Superstition ($14.95), for learning all of the physics involved in dowsing and how to build the modern light weight ball bearing dowsing rod, which is the only dowsing rod that accurately gauges what is being dowsed by pitting the energy of gravity against the energizing of the one-tenth ounce dowsing rod load that is attached on the elevated acetylene welding rod, with being located five-inches from the hub's shaft. This precisely gauges the dowsing of all edges, exact center, depth buried with angle of deposition, and most important is grading of the sought element that is contained in the elemental mass that is being dowsed. Anybody can become a professional dowser by practicing the book's dowsing lessons of buried pipelines and electrical cables, tunnels and voids, precious metal placer and lode deposits, dowsing for treasure, dowsing for any element, amplified long distance dowsing from a moving vehicle, and dowsing on water from a boat. Also, a new RU-vid channel, The Art of Dowsing - Separating Science from Superstition, will explain all the physics used in dowsing while being shown how to dowse for everything from buried pipelines to precious metal deposits.
