Most people are not aware that there are 2 types of minerals, organic (positive charge) and inorganic (negatively or neutral charged). The minerals that are left behind in the distillation process are inorganic minerals, aka...dirt, rock sediment. The human body can not use these minerals anyway. The organic minerals that the body can use are found in the food we eat and only from the food we eat. Before the Rockefeller age of ''medicine'', distilled water was the go to for health and well being. It removes anything in the body that would be considered inorganic. Inorganic minerals (boasted and believed to be ''healthy'') are one of the main causes of dis-ease in the body. Most inorganic minerals we ingest are expelled by urination and defecation for a reason. What the body can't expel gets tucked away in all nooks and crannies of the body leading to things like joint and muscle pain. Inorganic minerals, in extreme cases, are also responsible for things like kidney and gall stones and far worse over time and accumulation. The benefit of distilled water is that it will break down anything inorganic (sediment) and help flush it out. To this day it is still recommended for heart attack victims to drink up to 4 liters/day to help break down and flush the body of unwanted impurities in dire situations. Don't let ANYONE try to convince you that pure (empty) water can hurt you in any way. That is simply idiotic. You are water! My point...Rockefeller ''medicine'' is dependent on repeat customers. It's called an industry for a reason. There are many things this industry doesn't want you to know. This is one of them. Do the research or be a victim of the system. Google is NOT your friend in this regard.

TIP: it is NOT recommended to "boil" the dirty water to the point the steam bubbles are explosively leaving the water (aka Rolling boils) as contaminants from the dirty water can be ejected up onto the collection lid and recontaminate the distilled "clean" water. It doesn't take much longer to keep the water at a gentle simmer where few, if any steam bubbles are breaking the surface of the "dirty water". With your lid setup, this would require very little heat as a pseudo-pressure cooker is created allowing the dirty water to release the H20 Vapor at a lower temp than 212F (usually around 210-205F is sufficient). This splash up concern varies with the a) contents of the dirty water, b) geometry of the pots, lids, etc. and c) the temperature of the boil (aka what volume of un-vaporized dirty water droplets are flying up and hitting the lid to slime their way into and thus contaminate the "clean water." Slow and steady, yet again, wins the race.

Great video and I hope everyone who watches takes action. In every house I lived in (except 1 of the 5) I have installed whole house water filtration - applied to city and well water locales. My current house I added an ultraviolt C light canister to the water line. No viruses or bacteria can survive a blast of UVC. Pelican systems sells them. Others might also. And nothing like showering (or bathing -whatever) in water without chlorine or flouride or anything the filter removes. (I have found reverse osmosis to be too expensive, too bulky, and too slow.)

Ill never be able to prove it, but both my parents got Parkinsons in the later years, and they had a dugout, While they never drank it, they still bathed in, washed dishes, etc. Lots of run off every spring from all over. But both of them getting it is to much of a coincidence. When we lived on our acreage, I hauled water from the city into a cistern. Even then, I still tested it every 3 months for free at the local hospital. I learned a lot in 11 years about chlorine levels, biofilm and the cleaning of my water tank and cistern.

I am impressed by the simple idea of turning up the lid on the pot. If it is untenable to use electric or gas to boil your water it can be distilled by using the sun. Just put a wide but shallow pot or bowl in the sun and let the sun evaporate the water. I have done this when I dug a hole at the beach, put a black rubbish bin back over the hole and a stone in the middle above a canteen. It was just an exercise to test the process but it worked. I also put a black rubbish bin bag over a large leaf tree and at the end of the day there was enough water for a drink in the bag. Try it for fun!

Mr Haxman, I want to touch on the distilling section of your video. I'm from Louisiana, When the train wreck happened in Ohio I was concerned due to chemicals leaching into the rivers that feed into the Mississippi River which would then be an issue for us down here. I had the same thought process which was to distill water. Upon further research, I found distilling wouldn't help for the chemical Vinyl Chloride which is what spilled. This is because Vinyl Chloride boils at only 7.88F (_13.4C). Now I'm no water chemist or scientist but I would think it would still travel into the distilled water chamber because it has a lower boiling point than water. Some sites say it's okay but on a website that's for distilling, they state chemicals still travel through with the water. take it for what this is worth, happy youtubing.

With the seawater if you remove that little pot and leave the lid off and let it boil dry you should produce " Salt " at the bottom of the pot. Some friends of mine I once tried his at the beach we needed salt to have on our potato chips and no shops were open so we had a large pot filled it up and went for it. We did finally get enough salt after hours of boiling heaps of seawater lol.

@@HAXMAN I take bacteriological samples for a public water supply and here in Texas they test for total coliform as it is easy to do and is an indicator organism. The presence of it indicates the water could be contaminated.. The absence of it indicates the water is likely not contaminated. The trouble would be if fecal coliform were present. Coliform are all over you now and not a threat. You have to be very careful taking a sample. It's likely that you contaminated it yourself especially if touched the inside of the lid or mouth of the bottle.

We used to drink well water, but when my spouse had to get chemo, his doc told him to stop drinking his well water. The owners of the well had never had it check so they did, and it was full of bacteria. They had a huge cattle farm nearby and the waste was in all the groundwater in that area.

I work for a municipal water treatment plant (Class 1 Operator). Our lab guy has tested exactly two wells in his 24 years on the job that did not test positive for total coli-forms. Since you tested negative for e coli you're good to go. This could change without you knowing though. If you want to do a total disinfection a little Cl2 would do the trick. Get with someone in water treatment to work out the math of you want to go that route.

My parents have lived on the same farm 40 years and my dad had it tested at 33 years; he has bladder cancer, 5 years before that he was also diagnosed with lukeamia, prior to that had a heart attack and doctors said he had diabetes that he didn’t know had which caused the heart attack. Then my stepmom noticed the same symptoms of the bladder cancer and got tested…she tested positive. They then thought to have the well tested. They found very high levels of arsenic among other stuff. My stepmom went in for surgery and when they opened her up they found her organs sticking together like glue…the surgeon said he never seen something that bad. It was a long painful surgery; they had to put mesh between the organs. They are both constantly in and out of the hospital because their immune systems are so weak. My dad feels so guilt ridden that my mom got sick for him not checking the water years ago. He never thought of it because the water tasted fine. Please do regular water testing. This has caused a lot of grief and sadness to see my parents suffering.

Lol, great video, love your humor. As a German I can confirm I am not offended by the term Jerry can, I am however offended by the poor quality knock-off they sell in North America. Those things are wretchet. Germans make the best liquid containers! Also, I would ALWAYS recommend a small R/O system for drinking water in a household with a water well. Except you live in the mountains and you literally get glacier water from 20000 years ago to run through your pipes.

You should also have your well tested for chemicals, known as PFOS and PFOA. These are serious cancer causing chemicals that are found in all water nowadays (well & municipal). The EPA has classified these chemicals as an “emerging contaminant” that you should be using charcoal filters to protect your family.
@mytapscore
@mytapscore Год назад
Tip for anyone testing for PFAS in water: Be really, really careful and follow the instructions provided. You want to wash your hands thoroughly and avoid any type of object or surface that might contain PFAS (raincoats, non-stick pans, markers, etc) since this can lead to a false positive when testing. (We also hope HAXMAN will test for PFAS btw!)

Add a pinch of sea salt or just eat a pinch of salt salt for added minerals. Also, dry the outside of the small pot before you tip it over the glass. You don't want to contaminate the clean water with ocean drippings from the outside of the little pot.
@cyndiburns7932
@cyndiburns7932 Год назад
There's a company in Utah, called Redmond. They sell pink ancient sea salt that is loaded with trace minerals. Some days when we are working outside, and are thirsty and drinking lots of water, my doctor recommended that we add just a dash to each bottle. I do that also when sweating a lot. It makes our water taste better as well! If someone is experiencing diarrhea it is a good idea. Replacing electro lites is really important. Have also heard that a good quality coconut water is also good for that.

Oh, as a chemist, I just want to make sure when you distill your water, you discard the first fraction and the last fraction of the water. So if you are distilling a gallon, discard the first pint of liquid and stop distilling when you are down to the last pint in the distillation pot. That way any liquid contaminants with a lower boiling point (or that forms a lower boiling point eutectic solution) gets discarded in the first pint, and any liquid contaminants with a higher boiling point than water is left in the undistilled final pint. That will eliminate little nasty chemicals like methanol, fusel oils and similar chemicals. The same technique is used in distilling drinking alcohol. And setting up a simple still with some copper tubing to cool the distillate would be much faster and efficient. Me I tend to get the glass versions for my distillations.
