@@cechzc2eA mechanic mate of mine does a lot of work where people do a home fitting of a turbo to naturally aspirated engines and then destroy them. These dumb morons practically need an ambulance at the dealer when they tell them how much the repairs are going to cost and my mate only does it for a couple of hundred bucks cheaper and the moron has to accept it as there's no where else they can go.
to be fair for the truck and range rover drivers then they were probably fine because their vehicles are built to handle shit, but the others, yea absolutely
he looks like he should stop driving cars. looks very confused and without recognzing the situation. These are the people that plow into a crowded bus stop, killing 10 people and wonder why they get arrested.
Did better than the Navara owner and Navaras have lesser wading depth - 450mm for my D40 :( and 600mm for the D23. That said the odds are a bit better that the average pickup owner knows how to drive inclement conditions than the average car owner.
There are a lot of people on the road who do not know the basis of how a car engine works (looks like all BMW drivers if this clip is typical). If you plough at speed through a ford, the engine will take in water instead of air resulting in a stalled engine at best and a ruined engine at worst.
Yep. Unlike the muppet telling the van he had a perfect speed. Too slow and you don’t have the benefit of the wave to lower water around the engine/intake.
Interesting to watch a high clearance 4 wheel drive vehicle cautiously drive at just the right speed immediately followed by some loon launching their car as if it's a lifeboat coming down the ramp. From the death rattle I'm surprised the pistons didn't come though the bonnet.
ITS CRAZY HOW FAST PEOPLE DRIVE THROUGH THESE FLOODS, CREATING A MASSIVE WAVE TO ENGULF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT - COMPLETELY NUTS - I came across a flooded road a few weeks ago , maybe a foot deep - i turned around and went the other way AND I DRIVE A LANDCRUISER - im not taking any risks on getting stranded
Maybe a foot deep...maybe. I'm with you. As far as I'm concerned, if it's flooded, it's blocked. That said, I nearly came unstuck last week. Country road at night. Pitch black. Just looked like a bit of surface water...it wasn't 😮
The amount of people who don't understand how an engine works and are quite happy to destroy their cars for our entertainment is never ending. Notice how it seems to be the people driving SUVs and German cars who think their cars can drive through anything "because prestige". Love hearing that engine Hydrolock and the owner still trying to start the engine.
Its really important 1 - to know how deep the water is, 2 - know where your air intake is. I tried this in my Ford Escape many years ago. Air intake is in behind the front bumper. I panicked and put my foot down. We ended up getting towed to a storage yard overnight. I went back the next day with father in law who is a mechanic. We unscrewed all the spark plugs, used a long screw driver with handitowels to dry inside each, started it up and eventually drove it home.
I had an old diesel Merc 190. The air intake was right at the top of the engine, which was quite handy for driving through floodwater up to the door handles deep ... !
Some things to think about. What is under the water that might have fallen off another vehicle and might wreck your tyres or bodywork? What happens when you plunge a hot catalytic converter into ice cold water? How fast do you need to got to make sure loads of water splashes up into the engine bay and gets sucked into the air intake and into your cylinders and destroys the engine? How slowly to you need to go to ensure not enough exhaust gas is coming out to prevent water pouring up the exhaust pipe and into your silencer? And finally, why are loads of people standing beside the flooded road with cameras rolling? Seems like these people are helping us answer some of those questions. 😂
@@Liberty_Freedom_Brotherhood Well, turns out, not very much. No exhaust pipe. No electronic fuel injection system. No air intake. No catalytic converter. Google Tesla vs Rufford Ford. Very unexciting. They all get through.
When a warm gearbox or axle casing is suddenly chilled by deep water, the internal air contracts and will draw water into the internal oil, and destroy your transmission. This is why Land Rovers have high level sealed breather tubes factory fitted. Original Defenders are made to wade to the top of a wheel rim only.
I can't believe people do this 😱 I struggle to believe how idiots some people are! I am living in England, my second winter now, and I couldn't really think people would drive on a flooded road believing the have super powers or something.. Unbelievable, thank you for opening my eyes to the reality 🙄
Shell Ford brings out all the loons all year round but when it's 3ft+ deep, I'm amazed people still try it. At that depth, the water is usually running very fast and could sweep a lightweight car downstream.
I used to work at BMW Worcester and every time it flooded we'd get loads of BMWs in with flood damage mostly the X series models. I have worked at other brands in the area and not had a single floor damaged car come in. Says allot really
I don't know what the funniest bits are. The £50,000 trashed out of incompetence, the slow walk through 3 feet of cold, dirty water or the realisation that the insurance won't cover taking a Jaguar through a deep flood that was clearly marked.
I was at a site that had a flood right next to it so the council closed the roads as it was a drain issue, for 2 weeks it was shut, cones and signs at the nearest junction that you HAVE to drive around with huge signs saying closed for flood, then just before the flood was a complete 2 layer wall of cones, sure the farmers were fine in tracters and even Defenders so we left them to it as we weren't local and they were BUT it got so bad with people moving the cones we would say to each one, "We are sick of putting the cones back so you have a choice right now in life, turn around or go through, just make sure you put the cones back so the next person has the same choice", you would then wait to see the headlights head into the dip, water noises, then a flicker and darkness again, 5 minutes later a dejected soul would trudge upto us to wait or try and stay warm where I would tell them how bad hydrolocking is and because your satnav was showing as closed the insurer would not be paying, was like a monty python sketch, after 2 weeks 12 cars had been written off, from used nissan micras to brand new week old Mercedes SLK(which was sat in water at window height for 2 days with other cars passing) and even a Porche Cayenne...all for the sake of 1 turn and 10 seconds extra, like momma used to say "stupid is as stupid does".
We used to.love cycling to shell Ford as kids ...usually for picnic and swim ...but also during floods ..used to get 50 pence to push cars out ...ohhh the memories
River Ouse floods every year on the road into our village in Bedfordshire, I think the BMW drivers see the range rovers ploughing through and don’t want to be out done . Traffic light gp syndrome .
Fair enough filming, but I felt that in a couple of cases you could have stopped and helped the poor buggers out, however silly they were to have got themselves into the situation in the first place (particularly the old boy in the Jag - it felt wrong to be to be filming him while he hobbled slowly away).
I would never take a BMW through a ford, the air intake is far too low. Everyone should know the safe wading depth of their vehicle and don't even try it if the marked level is above that depth. I can wade up to 700mm in my vehicle - that's about 28". The latest Land Rovers can wade up to 900mm (36" / 3'). And slow and steady is the rule.
That red car at the end : “do I? Don’t I? Okay here we go.. slowly creep forward. Easy, easy.. actually think I’ll go the long way after all. Back up back up!” 😆
It's almost as if the traffic cones had been placed there to stop people going through the flooded area, and someone else thought I'm going to move them out of the way so I can get passed.
Oh my, the red BMW stopped further down the road, gently steaming with the hazards on.... priceless. And the white one seems to have hydrauliced the valves, so full engine rebuild needed.
After watching these videos, I made the effort to find my engine air intake. Its right below the bonnet latch, so it's not very high. Either I will be going slowly through the water or take another route.
Why, after abandoning their vehicle in 3 foot of water, do they seem to always leave the ignition on, (as indicated by the windscreen wipers merrily doing their thing)? And as for leaving the door open...🤣🤣🤣
What's even more mind boggling is the fact that, upon leaving the water, some of the drivers feel the need to accelerate the whole 12 meters to the crossroads only to have to stop. Th¡¢ka$p¡g$h¡†.
Some air intakes are low enough to take in that water and destroy the engine. All transmissions have vent holes low enough to take in that water ruining the transmission. A moment of silence for all those car drivers stuck in poverty thanks to car centric society and possibly a lacking drain infrastructure.
Lets all sing the i need an engine rebuild song 😆😆😆..... jeezus , and the bird in the beemer would not take no for an answer , you could hear bits of engine going tinkle tinkle tinkle lol , that engine is going to be a total write off would be my guess .
The bmw driver is a true genius. Those people are already far from smart to drive through that water but when you then have your car stalling and make weird sounds, to then continue to start the engine over and over and reving it...genius move. It`s like the driver intentionally wanted to make sure his car is a total write off. Like he hated his car and he wanted to make 100% sure it dies.
@1.50.....remember being a kid in Grandads tool shed back in the 70's and picking up those Golden Virginia Tobacco tins and shaking them and listening to all those rusty nuts, bolts, screws, washers etc etc rattling around inside😁 then all of a sudden @4.00 Grandad gingerly turns up to collect that box to fix his own car.🤣😂🤣
I'm mesmerised by this, I've once come round a blind bend into 6 feet of water didn't stall but was definitely a brown pants moment but these people can see the water and just think "Game On" and go through
I don't, if he can't work out that you shouldn't drive through 3ft of water, it means his eyesight is poor and he can't see the sign or the water. He will kill someone if he keeps driving.
@@Bond2025 and after killing other people he will surely be upset when getting arrested. He build a car depended society, should life with his bullshit and walk instead of harming other
Annoying how the fire brigade turn up for the jag. Old fella or not, it was his stupid decision to drive through 3’ of water so he should be paying for a recovery truck
Surely there is no way on earth the insurance companies pay out. If they do it’s making all our premiums increase to cover the cost of utter INCOMPETENCE as everyone of those car are essentially written off
