Tempest air 10 range, ground 14

However, do take a minute to contemplate the massive implications of this 14 air range, paired with the not-so-bad movement speed of the tempest (3.15, vs carrier's 2.62). If they had 10 air range, they would effectively trade shots with vikings. But since its 14 range, a group of 6-7 tempests can one-shot pretty much any air unit out of the sky before that unit can do anything about it. In order to not take free losses, the Terran has to move forward to engage the tempests. If the tempests are microed and moving back with their 3.15 speed after the shot, it means that whatever is trying to hit the tempests will have to leave anything slower behind. Tanks, Thors, mines, deployed liberators and any static defense (turrets, PFs, bunkers) are removed from the fight. Suddenly storms become a viable counter to vikings because the HT doesn't have to stand in tank range anymore to hit the vikings. If protoss is using colossi as their long range unit, then a colossus attacking a tank position is well within the tank's range (9 vs 13) and vikings can pewpew colossi from behind the tank (10 range), so HTs have to move in front of colossi to hit vikings. With tempests, vikings are exposed.

@@WhoTheLoL the tempest cost and supply is never fair against viking, and tempest got so many counter. 1 abduct is like twice the viking already. Can you calculate cost per dps for tempest and viking?.i would rather viking is swapped with tempest instead.

This is one of the best out there no doubt. I’ve seen a few with awesome potentials also such as Gates of pyre.

Every low league player says the same thing about over-committing to static defense... If you don't understand the absolute basics of the game yet you can't give advice to a Diamond player much less a pro lol.

They don't commit to cannon/shield batteries due to Protoss units being heavy bulky fighters. If you've seen other videos on thjs channel, the difference between winning and losing against certain timing attack as protoss can come down to how many units they have at the time of the attack. If they produced static defence at such an early stage at such an unstrategic spot (not at choke points or base entrances) frontal attack will sap more resources due to units lost as compared to probes lost. It's why pro gamers will use mobile stalkers to monitor the air perimeter, they can move to counter. And in late game, where protoss has money to spend, they will normally deploy static defence at mineral lines, as you've suggested.

@@hivetech4903 I stated that I suck and play in silver, yet you see it again and again. However, Skillous has been making good use of static defense lately. Dude definitely thinks like a Protoss. Not trying to give advice - just an observation.
