Amp was mic'd by a SM57 touching the grill right in the center, into a focusrite 2i2, direct into Streamlabs capture.

It’s not a two channel amp. The “2nd channel” is actually a boost. This is why you have to volume and Gain bump!

Long time Blackstar Studio HT 20 user here. I love this amp, it's perfect for my needs. Granted, the drive channel starts at Megadeth, but that's what volume knobs are for :)

I actually love that it starts at megadeth. Also I liked the HT5 and HT20 which is why I bought the ht40, but for whatever reason I just could not get along with that amp.

Green, blue, red, or any amps with color are always attractive to me, and instantly I hope they sound great as well

It's such a simple thing but it definitely makes an impact. It's just a great touch that I don't know why more companies don't do more often.

I played the series and liked something about each one. I ended up with the EL 34 studio and replaced the speaker with a Celestion V series and a hot Tung Sol preamp tube. Just love it, sparkling rich cleans and JCM 800 on the drive side it does it all...I also have the HT20 MKII and the HT5 MKII just great amps.

I was looking at one of those EL34s but I can't get to try one out before i buy it! Hopefully there are more open shops when we move and one of them is in stock, they are such a cool product line the studio 10's.

Hey mate i just wanna grab that el34 studio 10 , i cant find any good videos with heavy drive. Does it go to that heavy drives like in this video ? or the tungsol does that job?
@markkosa1
@markkosa1 3 года назад
@@Amiga1200_Juicer The KT88 model has the heavier drive but the El34 model has a sweet crunch, think ac/dc, that is easily boosted with any pedal...the hot tungsol preamp tube pushes it to JCM 800 range.

@@markkosa1 hey I know your comment is a bit older now but curious of your opinion on how the studio el34 and ht20 sound. I used to own an ht20 mkii, had an weird love hate relationship with it. Loved the cleans and thought voice 1 on the gain channel was decent, had a hard time liking any tones on voice 2. Some days I didn’t even like voice 1 that much, now that it’s gone sometimes think about blackstars again. So you think the el34 studio cleans or gain sound very similar or different compared to the ht20?
@markkosa1
@markkosa1 2 года назад
@@DKprojects9 Depends on what you are looking for and the music you play. I play mostly blues rock based tunes and I love them both. The Studio 10 has a more Marshall flavor on drive think JCM 800. The clean though is far superior to Marshalls I think, and I had a JVM 50 watt for years just too loud for my use. Watch the Dawsons Music video with Quail and you get a pretty good idea. Just like most Marshalls, the Studio 10 really sounds best turned up past halfway and that is loud.

@@AudiomoMusic I bet, I've heard the KT88's can really growl, but the cleans you were playing sounded pretty impressive too. Right now I have an EVH 5150iii 50w 2×12 combo that can serve up copious amounts of gain as well, but the clean channel always has a hint of bite to it, never approaches anything glassy, jangly, or crystal clear. It does sound amazing for blues though with just a touch of boost. I needed a lighter tube amp for my studio as well as this EVH is nearly 90 pounds lol kind of a b!tch to move

Wow. Thank you so much for this video. I just picked one of these up for $400 out the door in near mint condition which was a great deal considering off of reverb but I was totally thrown off by the volume difference between channels. I kind of thought I had a defective one or something. Thank you for this video for putting that worry at ease. At least I know this is normal for the amp. I am more of a clean player who loves some breakup when I push the tubes, but holy crap when you switch channels it just explodes into volume distortion craziness!! Knowing this is normal helps me accept it and work around it, but I agree, I probably won't be switching between the two in a live situation. However, the overall warmth of this amp in the cleans with the breakup when pushed is beautiful. I guess if I feel like I need to go full on 80s rock metal I can use channel two some more but will use a volume pedal to bring it down considerably. Don't regret getting at all for the fun of the amp, but it's good to know that I wasn't the only one that was completely thrown off by channel two stepping up the volume considerably. Thanks again for this review. The boost on channel two is totally an amazing tone wise etc, but I just wish they matched the volume between the two channels a little closer to eachother :) I do want to say that the cleans on the first channel are soooo nice and the amp is totally worth it to me for that reason, and if you are a total distortion person, channel two sounds amazing too. Switching between the two is the challenge. I am happy with it, but will most likely stick to one channel or the other and not hop between without the help from a volume pedal etc. Btw. I have the EL34 version.

Yeah the big problem is indeed the channel switching volume jump, but outside of that there's absolutely nothing else to complain about, these things sound great I'm happy you love yours!

Thanks for playing this thing cleaner in the beginning without a ridiculous amount gain and just slapping the strings. Watching a dozen other videos just made me cringe. Decent demo. I found a deal on a kt88 new in red I’ve been considering. Not a new player, currently have a supro supreme and a few others. I like overdrive, but I love clean tones.

I normally make people angry in the comments because I don't use enough distortion to their liking when it comes to these, so I'm happy someone else appreciates the fact I feel clean tones are equally important haha

This is not a 2 channel amp btw. It simply has an overdrive circuit built it.

I learned this about two months ago, there isn't anyway for me to kind of edit that into the video so I just left it in there. I screw up quite a bit you'll find.

My man! I have the anniversary edition of this and threw a creamback into it. Love the amp. Perfect review, I completely agree with you on the volume bump it's insane and I just use pedals for drive but that second channel is true beast mode. I couldn't have said anything better than you here fantastic review, but I do really recommend upgrading the speaker. I was blown away by the improvement it made, the creamback works perfectly with single coils and humbuckers (but as you already said this is a humbucker amp for sure)

I was looking into that but I read that not all speakers will fit into it due to the smaller chasis, what'd you end up putting in it?

@j.a.s.1416 3 года назад
@@AudiomoMusic *Swamp Thang* by Eminence. Great speaker tons of headroom. Has a huge magnet so any other speaker should fit just fine. Easy swap no mods needed just pull the chassis out and flip it upside down before you put it out so you don't damage that massive KT88.

@@AudiomoMusic My tech said the creamback 12" barely fit but it works great! It's a smaller cab than my princeton and has a larger speaker it's nuts. I completely agree with you on the reverb on this amp it's... Meh but that's why we've got pedals I guess. Only my jc22 has amazing reverb
