I really wonder what the term “engineered wood” or “composite wood” actually means. Is it plastic or some other material? I would really like to understand exactly what the term means. I was considering getting one when they advertised it on the instagram page, until I saw those terms. Great video, thanks.

If you look up those terms you’ll see that there are some very good applications for the engineered wood. These are indeed made of wood, and super solid. And at that cost? Totally worth it. I’ll have a review up soon on this one. Thanks for watching! 😃👍🏻

@@VaporTrailChannel FF uses the term composite wood, not engineered wood, which is actually not the same thing as engineered wood. My claim is that it is a mystery what it is actually made of, however I get the idea of it being a super cheap guitar. I love my fireflies but this one was a bridge too far for me. Maybe open up the pick guard and drill into it a bit to see how it is actually made. Short of that, still unknown for me. Might be a great video idea, also might weigh it to see if it is as heavy as folks say it is.

The 3 piece Tele body copies George Harrison's rosewood Tele. The FF wood is strips of rosewood laminated together. Knock on it and see how it rings, compare to a solid wood body. You may not be able to hit it hard enough to get a significant ring. Builders do this on body blanks to make sure they don't build a dead body or dont buy a lot of thumpy body wood. Also to hear the differences in resonance. Ash and poplar resonance is clearer and more stable than basswood, for instance. Basswod resonance is scattered and can be peaky. I'd bet a paycheck Firefly has never done this for a single lot of wood they've purchased. I'd be surprised if the Tele were more resonant than a wet blanket. Its the same kind of yhing you see on super cheap "ebonite" fingerboards. If the dry glue is soft it'll be dead, if its hard less dead. Like the body finishes: lacquer and nitro dry very hard, hardware store rattle can paint is soft, car paint is soft. Soft paint on a guitar damps the resonance of the wood. Add to that the general untrustable nature of FF's basic manufacturing ethic I think you're pretty brave for snagging that Tele. I bet the neck is amazing if its solid rosewood. If its the same composite watch out. Nice wall art tho

Thanks for the info and thoughts. You'd be surprised, this actually does have good sound to it, and it actually surprised me. I'll have a video on it soon, so you can judge for yourself. Either way, you're right, it's some nice wall art, and I've paid at least as much for art as I have for this. She is super heavy though, so not so much for stand up playing :-p Thank you for watching!

Both of them sold out within a few hours. They just dropped a few new ones on the GG site, but these may take a month or more to make another appearance. They tend to make runs, then if popular, they bring it back every few months. If you follow them and the fb group, you’ll have some advanced notice of the drops and what is expected to be in them.
