Reviewing the Gretsch G5420T: Unboxing and First Play
Hey y'all, in this episode I briefly talk about the G510T loaded with a Setzer signature pickup.
I also unbox a G5420T, straight out of the box and with no pickup finessing I found the FT-5E'S to have more clarity than the Setzer signature pickup! mkbhd
Controversial I know especially as The TV Setzer signature boasts more clarity and punch?
I will be pursuing this further in future Videos.

No one can ever state that Gretsch does not make pretty guitars! The 510, to me with my speakers, has a surf sound to it. I am like you, I love twang. The 5420 on my computer looks burgundy, asked my wife to take a look and she agreed, strange eh, but once you started tuning it it looked brown.

Thanks for the input 👍 I've spent hours setting up the pickup on the 510 and it's as good as I can get it for that twang and surf tone. The great thing I find with these wonderful guitars is how the colours change in different light, it is burgundy in some light, all round it's a thing of beauty. RT 👍😎✨

Ah, so you noticed the red tones too, that is cool. I just was shown a Gretsch Baritone 5260T, Deathraycat played some awesome RaB on it, cool guitar.

The Setzer's have more high-mid no? More punch and middle core? The 5420 seems more scooped to me

Hey Ivan, it's such a tricky one. The blurb on TV'S page suggests more clarity. And yeah more oomph. It certainly has more output. To my ears it's more compressed and more of a humbucker in overall tone and lacks the single coil tone of a classic filtertron. It's a great pickup nonetheless.Do you have them in any of your guitar's? Thanks for the input, have a great day RT 👍✌️😎

@@rapidotlussoguitar I have a 5420T but with the stock Blacktops, I was wondering if put the new FT or the old Gretsch filtertron HS. I have no money for the TV Classic or Setzer's... 😭. My Blacktops are brilliant but with many basses, sometime too many

@@ivanwildboy Hi, to be honest I wouldn't bother going high end. I don't know if you can get the FT-5E'S, you may find a second hand set eventually. You could try find a set of Rat Rod pickups; I think they are the same. I had a fairlane blue with the older black tops, the Rat Rod pickups were way better. If not the HS are a perfect filtertron and hard to beat. I have one in the neck on the Tri-Five, good luck with it, oh I fitted a set of Roswell filtertrons in a friend's guitar, very good and a great price 👍😎🏆
