UNBOXING a Launch Day SUPER NINTENDO ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM from 1991 

What's interesting is Super Mario World was a new game. Most systems bundled with games are games that had been out for awhile and continued to sell really well. My only guess is that the Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt combo sold so well that it was a no brainer to bundle the newest Mario game with the system.

It has aged like fine wine. That's impressive that you still have it. Most people, myself included sold it for a newer system like the PlayStation or Nintendo 64. Then we regretted it and bought it back years later. LOL

Yep, it's definitely an issue. Not just for SNES cords but other systems as well. 90's marketing had it's charm with everything being loud and xtreme.

A few flaws here and there but yeah, she's a keeper. Glad I got this when I did because this is worth alot more now. Thanks for the support. :)

I think the first thing that comes to mind with most people when talking about SNES is Super Mario World. So I figured I might as well use it.

I didn't get mine until 1994 but even though I was late to the game, it was worth the wait. I thought you weren't a big SNES fan?

@@GoodVibeCollecting I am an SNES fan- tons of really iconic games that I love, but- I never had one growing up. I had the NES to start, then an N64 on launch day, the year after that I got a PlayStation, and then the year after that I got a Genesis. I don’t have the same nostalgia for it since I just never got to play it growing up. NES and N64 are my top consoles for both nostalgia and games I love.

I just need to find the OEM bags.

Where can you actually buy such a rare, first copy of this packed in game with the system? I thought you only could back in the early nineties.

@@GoodVibeCollectingI remember getting this packed in game with this system at Walmart back in the early nineties by mom. It was the original, first copy! Where on earth would you be able to find such a rare thing like this now a days? He’s very fortunate to have found it, since I’ve been looking for this exact thing, haven’t had luck in any local video game store.

I'm guessing you had to use a converter to play it since it was NTSC?

​@@GoodVibeCollecting Uruguay is in South America, back then all Americas had TV sets compatible with both NTSC and PAL signals, all consoles here since the NES/famiclones are NTSC anyways, back then the PAL signal was used only by a few "air" broadcast channels, the only country here that used the PAL signal for TV and consoles as a standard was Brazil, but "their" PAL is not like the european PAL, it is more like a brazilian NTSC, runs at 60hz but without the adjustable tone (tint) option.

The yellowing seems like it's random. Even if stored in a dark cool place, some still turn yellow. I always consider the late 80's-late 90's to be the golden age of video games. So many great games were released during that time. Many which are considered classics now. Before the internet, going to the game store was the best way to find out about new games. I agree that stores can seem like a mess but there are some that really care and display retro stuff nicely. Thanks for watching and commenting. Always enjoy hearing stories like that. :)

@@GoodVibeCollecting Yes, I’ve seen the yellowing just on the top, just on the bottom like mine, and both. I’m told it’s just when the plastic was made, and with what batch it came from. Something they’ve since fixed. Still frustrating though, for someone who goes through such lengths to be careful and take care of things. I do have a couple of stores around me, as well as up near my parents house up north, that sell used games. I think they do care, but it’s difficult to find anything in decent shape (by my standards I suppose), and even harder at a decent price if it is in good shape. Just one of my games now, with its original box and papers, in the condition it’s in, has been going for $650 to $700. 😳 Which is great for me if I wanted to sell it. But it’s not about the money. I loved that period, the consoles, and the games, and I still occasionally even play the few games I’ve kept. Im just careful with them. It’s sort of like a neat old car that’s been kept up. Sure you can just keep it in a garage and never drive it. But it’s not good for the car mechanically, no one ever gets to see it, and they were made to be driven. Obviously game consoles aren’t quite the same, but still. When I was a kid I lived in a very very small town that was relatively isolated. It was also a pre-internet time. Video games, along with TV and movies, were my window to a bigger world, and not only showed me there was something bigger out there, but kept my mind active. Of course also making me to happy and excited. Games today are in HD, 3D, they’re online, and you can buy them digitally just sitting on your couch. But I really miss physical media, and the thrill of going to gaming stores, or opening up that package on your birthday or during the holidays. Im told that my nephews, now 17 and 15, don’t mind just getting a piece of cardboard with a code for a game today. It’s just what they’re used to and are fine with it. But it’s hard for me to imagine.

@@cgimovieman Video games were and still are to an extent an escape from reality. Going to the game store to buy a new game or getting one as a gift was a big deal. It was like welcoming a new member to the family. It's something kids won't be able to experience due to everything being online now. Modern games are basically playable movies now. That's fine for people who like that stuff but old games have a charm to them and felt more creative.

Interesting, I've seen several that were supposedly brand new in the box and they had them. Has this been 100% confirmed or do we assume so? Where on the poster does it say they are no longer included because I don't see it. I know on later models they stopped coming with them since people had upgraded to newer tv's but I'm pretty sure these launch systems had them. Yeah, I'm probably missing the Precautions Booklet. They came with everything Nintendo released. Systems, games, accessories.

@@GoodVibeCollecting I just checked again and it's the console manual that says those are not included (pages 8 and 10). The SNES poster (large hookup diagram) doesn't mention that they're not included but the posters that came with the later NES's do, so I got them mixed up.

@@SaturnHST Do you have the codes for the SNES manual and NES poster that say they are not included?

@@GoodVibeCollecting The SNES manual is the original launch version (SNS-USA). The NES poster (HW-NES-US-1) is from the NES Challenge Set. The console manual from the Challenge Set (NES-USA) also says those parts are not included on pages 6/8. Both the NES manual and poster are late versions with a 1992 copyright date.

I figured the title being placed all on one line meant that was the very first print game ever, which is why these days more people own the games with the title as super on top, Mario world both below it. So this game right here has got to be the first, earliest copy made, which is way harder to find.

Back in the early nineties you could find this game as the launch title with the system all in one box! But as years went by, most people could only buy the game without being in the box, or with the system, which is proof that those ones are the newer makes, have stuff left out of those games, unlike this original first print.

It's easily my 2nd favorite Zelda game behind Link's Awakening. I got my SNES Christmas of 1994 and yeah, I'd say it was the best gift I've ever received.

I’ve been collecting SNES (PAL) and (NTSC) for years but never had the North American / Canadian console until recently acquired on a work trip, almost as nice as yours but after seeing this video realised that mine does not have the mentioned cardboard insert… Cheers for the response too mate!

@@chadkwaterski3529 That's usually the piece that's missing. I never bothered collecting PAL due to the compatability issues with NTSC.

These never came sealed so it can be hard to tell if it's actually brand new. If it is, and it's a launch day version, than $400 is fair.

Most likely Super Mario World with the slot style cartridge.

Who doesn't? So many classics, several of which are considered some of the greatest games ever made.

That one is harder to find IMO. I'm guessing it didn't sell as well. Probably because most people already had a Super Nintendo at the time. Do you plan to complete yours?

The posters that say Zelda III were only in a few games. F-Zero, Pilotwings, Sim City, Super Tennis, and I believe the Super Scope. Only the first prints though.

Ok thanks that helps. On the back it says get the power. For Nintendo power. And the front says Zelda 3 coming soon. And its numbered : gp-snes-usa there is no -1 on the end. I think the -1 was added to correct the title for a link to the past. It was never called Zelda 3. Only in early advertising. Just trying to figure what games it could have come in. I have a few boxed games like donkey Kong country and super ghouls and ghosts and a few others. Just trying to get the poster with right game. Figured it had to be a first party game. Thanks again

@@georgesanders5006 The -1, -2, -3, etc. means it's a revision. It could be a simple change like changing Zelda III to A Link to the Past or a complete redesign of the insert itself. These Nintendo poster inserts only came with Nintendo first party games. Whether developed or just published by Nintendo.

I've had this in my collection for years. Pretty sure I got it off ebay. There aren't too many fake original model SNES consoles out there and the ones that are fake, are pretty obvious. So yeah, there is no magical link where you can buy CIB ones. My advice is to look at the seller's feedback and see if there are any complaints. If you plan to buy it from FB marketplace or some other site that doesn't have a feedback system, ask other members there if that seller is trustworthy.

Don't remember, alot less than what it's worth now.
