Got this fun Tarot deck by Andrea Aste today and wanted to share my first impressions. Messed up totally on the Wands/Pentacles, but hey, nobody´s perfect ;)
Dear Cuilfaen, I am Andrea Aste, the author of The Book of Shadows. I would like to thank you for your video. I found it really interesting and captivating. it's a pity we didn't met before, I really like your suggestion about the paper. I would have done it! :) Anyway, I like your energy and honesty. Thank you a lot for your time and appreciation :) :) :)
+Andrea Aste other than the card stock its a great deck. OH, you should make a book that has your own interpretation of what the cards mean because the book that comes with it has no description on the card meaning.
Indeed. both! :) I am already working on the book with the meaning of the cards. In this edition I preferred to concentrate on the storytelling part, connecting it with the mockumentary (with my animations too) and the exhibition/installation I have in mind... unfortunately was impossible to insert in this book the context about the card meanings :( too heavy, too big.... For the card paper..I accept your hint. I trusted Lo Scarabeo and their experience :) I am happy, but, yep, we can do better :) :)
+Gale Sal Tanks Gale :) I've just started to create it, everything depends on which Publisher will allow me to realize the book I am in mind: visionary and very graphic, with all the necessary content for a good reading and understanding of the cards and spreads!!!! :)a book in my style. In the meanwhile I am working on little surprises :) Every now and then have a look at my youtube channel, I will share more :) thanks again
I saw the hanged man card from this deck on Instagram and loved it. I'm definitely adding it to my wishlist now, it looks so whimsical and different from any other deck I've seen. Like you, I assumed that the dragons would be wands, but I like them as coins. It reminds me of the currency in Game of Thrones, their gold coins are called dragons.
+Kate Hudson true :) And I mean dragons do have a tendency to like mundane things as gold and diamonds LOL. And there´s dragons in the pentacle suit of the Shadowscape as well. So I´m perfectly fine with it :) This deck is SO much fun still! I love it!
yes, they're both kinda abstract 😊 Gosh, despite this deck not being my priority, I took the book with me as a bed time story and it's so much fun! So quirky 😄
oh I totally get you on that. When I preordered this deck back in 2015 I was quite sure I wouldn't ever want to read with it. But I wanted it nonetheless LOL.
Oh darn!! You made me want this!!! Goin broke her...! 😜 I love fun cool stuff like this! Something totally new and created from total imagination mixed with what we love I love it! I love it and I thank you very much for this cool video… Except now I have to go on buy one, yikes :-)it looks amazing! Secret and lost codes are so much fun!
Oh... I laugh so much.. so lovely review lol... thank you a lot.. I bought this an be waiting for it now :-) if dont have your review, I may sit there an be confused with wand an pentacles the same lol... Greeting :-) kiss your cat, love cats :-)
thank you! I can´t wait to hear what you think of this deck. I´m still in love with it and it makes me laugh a lot :D And my now purring cats say thank you for the kisses xo
I got my deck last week and I thought the illustrations and the whole concept of the deck was amazing, but I hate the card stock!! I totally agree with you about having some sort of texture to the cards, they just did not impress me in that department.
I am very drawn to this... I love the hermaphrodite devil! Love the scribbly drawings, love that they are very RWS and TDM combined... love the aged looking background... so what other deck would you say the cardstock is like? :)
+Ragged Poet meant to say... please if I order it don't let me get the deck with the corner missing!!!! But it would be kinda cool if someone did in a strange kind of way!
The deck is soo fascinating! Gorgeous. Btw how often do you shop with Bookdepository and did you had any problems. I ordered a German deck from there and lets just say it was an experience.
+IGreenCookie Hmm, this was my second purchase on Bookdepository and I didn´t have any problems yet. It takes its time (so in this case it´s been 2 weeks) coming from the UK but I´m fine with that.
I love this deck and bought it a few weeks ago when it first came out. I completely fell in love with it! It is so different and I love the parchment-like look to it. The book and codes are so creative and Andrea has all sorts of fun future projects in conjunction with this deck in the plans. Have you ever read any of Walter Moers "Dreaming Books" novels? For some reason this deck reminded me of some of his artwork and style. Interesting about the paperstock. Mine was pretty sturdy for an LS deck. I wonder if it is different via country? The pips are so cute too! :)
+Faerie Hearthwitch No never heard ot those, but I´ll look into them :) Hmm... I don´t think they change the cardstock within one run. Weird. And I´m ok with it actually - I just would have wished for some texture like linen cardstock. But hey, I love the rest, so *shrugs*
+Faerie Hearthwitch Moers is great. The first book I've read was 'Ensel & Krete - A Zamonian Fairytale' which sadly wasn't translated into German. This fairytale was by Optimus Yarnspinner who is named Hildegunst von Mythenmetz in the original. While reading it the first time I couldn't stop smiling.😊
+Lindenherz I am a huge fan of The City of Dreaming Books and The Labyrinth of Dreaming Books. I need to read his other ones! So much fun! I want to live there...even if it is dangerous! :) :)
I agree with the cardstock in these cards. You know who's card stock I just love is Baba Studios card stock their Victorian Romantic dec? with is a Matte finish but perfecr thickness & amazing texture. I don't care for super high glossy for the cards relfect too much light & stick often. But the Russian version of Victorian Romantic was too perfect. Also my new Tarot Of Prague deck has amazing cardstock texture. Btw I love your video's & you're laugher makes me laugh.
Lo Scarabeo has beautiful tarots but their cheap flimsy card stock drives me crazy. They are not giving these sets away; so charge a few dollars more and print a decent deck.
+molarmama32 I think, I´d already be happy with a linen cardstock for this one. Doesn´t even have to be much thicker... ok, a bit maybe ;) But let´s face it: cardstock is the one thing no publisher can choose in a way to make every one happy. Too many different opinions on that one.
+Cuilfaen Agree. I want a card stock that is "solid" and not so flimsy. The cards should holdup to daily use. I have decks from Lo Scarabeo and Llewellyn that frankly I must shuffle in a special, gentle way. I do agree with the linen card stock, as you are quite correct. Thank you so much!
