Unboxing and First Impressions of OneXplayer X1 - Got potential? 

I think, based off of the success of the campaign that they will to be honest. It's one of the more successful ones on IGG for OneNetbook so I wouldn't be surprised if we see a 8850U version in late 2024 or early 2025. Or maybe it's just wishful thinking on my part but I chose to believe it will happen!

@@GameTechTalk Thx for the info! Yeah, I'm active on the 1NB Discord and I've seen some good and some bad things regarding the X1. And I'm sure there'll be more driver updates to make this device a lot better. The Intel chip needs some fine tuning.

It definitely is, I'm already finding a lot of unique things about it in prep for the review but it's not all rainbow and unicorn and I'm not talking solely of the Intel chip. It's a step in the right direction for sure though. If they have an AMD one in the horizon, I might be tempted to double dip as GPD seems determined to not upgrade the WM2 and Win 4 to 120hz.

I really like it. The screen is bright and colorful, and the sound is amazing. I am never taking this out of my house, so I just keep the wattage cranked up. It's been really great so far. It is a little heavy for sure, but I don't have any problems with comfort. Too bad it isn't landscape though, older titles don't look good on it. @@GameTechTalk

Personally, initial thoughts, I hate the bloody design. I do like OneXplayer construction, at least in my unit.

@@STR82DVD If anything, considering the design and form-factor, I feel comfortable saying before a full review that I don't know how they could've done much better. With that said, it also made me edit my TJD T101 review which will be coming out shortly.

@@GameTechTalk I've always found it interesting that OneXplayer seems to like larger form factors over much smaller ones from GPD.

@@STR82DVD Indeed, and they haven't always hit the mark doing so. That is the first device for me personally that has a fighting chance against the Win Max 2, I ordered the 8840U OneXPlayer 2 Pro to revisit that form factor as from the original OXP, I wasn't a fan but we'll see if my mind changes in the coming days/weeks. On a completely different note, I just want to take a moment to appreciate you. Our initial interactions would've probably made most people enemies, yet here we are engaging so proficiently. These conversations are the cornerstone of what I do and so, thank you for being here.

That it is, not everyone's cup of tea either but let it be said that this was once every teenager and young adult's dream, to bulk up while gaming. Seeing as this thing is heavy, it's a step closer to gaining mass and indulging! I call that having your cake and eating it too... Wait... Urgh logic is hard! 😅

Totally. I like to think that this period is them refining and revisiting some concepts, like GPD that revisited clamshell, AYANEO with the Flip DS and OneNetbook finally making a viable 3-in-1 but as far as performance goes, between 6800U and 8840U, the jumps were incremental at best, let's hope 8850 changes this when it releases later this year.

I noticed, I cut the part out but maybe you can tell me, am I crazy or that overlay doesn't have a FPS counter?!? I mean... Of all the things that needs to be on an overlay, FPS would be #1 priority right? I saw other worthy information sure but no FPS... Maybe I didn't look hard enough though.

@@GameTechTalk Nope, you're right, it's not a metric that, apparently, Intel even considered. As for the OneXplayer native overlay, it's brutally light that seems to rely on licensed third party apps. Kind of sad tbh.

My agent said they have a role for me in an action movie, they said I'm a master of creating tension thanks to this scene! 😅

It's definitely not for everyone. I like big and bulky, I don't mind weight if it's balanced and comes with benefit but I can see how this design could alienate some potential consumers. Moonlight ought to be a great use-case for sure with these handhelds and the 120hz paired with that beautiful 10.95" is just perfect for it. With that said, I'm excited to re-experience Intel but really, I wish it was 8840U rather hehe! For the refund, I don't know that I ever heard of a company doing that on crowdfunding once it's delivered... Prior to delivery, sure, I've done it a few times myself but after? I couldn't tell you to be honest.

@@STR82DVD I have it on good authority that they are lending an open ear to making some changes and communication is one that is being addressed. After which the ball is in their camp but I hear you, I agree and if ever there was loss in translation before, it's being discussed now, I know that for fact.

😂 It sure is a big and bulky "handheld" but the weight distribution is a bit more comfortable than one should assume. With that being said though, it's not for everyone, much like the Win Max 2, this is best seen as a hybrid between a handheld and laptop. Though I'd argue this one is a better hybrid between a handheld and a tablet. Cheers!

I'm coming as someone that have incredible love and appreciation for GPD, yes they do a lot of things great but they also lack in some areas and competitors have caught up, or even surpassed them in many fields. As for being impractical, I agree with you 100% when thinking about the OneXPlayer 2 BUT, remember how people said the Steam Deck wouldn't be comfortable and wouldn't hold right? Well much like SD, the X1 looks worst than it actually feels, like by a lot. Is it as comfortable as holding a GPD Win 4? Certainly not, but it is superior on so many levels too, it all comes down to what your priorities are but I assure you, the panel and sound quality blows all of GPD products except maybe the Win Mini 8840U? I wouldn't know about that one.

@@GameTechTalk it’s kind of contradictory for a product to market itself as portable and compact when it’s this size and various dongles. From all the machines I’ve seen in the past few years, even with its downfalls, GPD remains truly the windows portable power house. Sure the oled screens are nice on the switch and steam deck but neither of them have all the functions gpd device have in its truly pocketable portable form. The surfboard forms of anything other the gpd have keeps me away. If I need a bag just to carry the device and all its accessories, might as well get a gaming laptop. The win 4 and mini fit in my back pocket, which is insane.

Totally, I do believe its purpose goes beyond though but yes, if your thing is emulation for the most part, there is much better value-wise.

@@GameTechTalk intel handheld are trash. Most of chinese handheld failed on AAA games. No one buy those in Asia based on the experience. :)

@@YelNatSttocS yes intel handhelds are bad but this is the new optimized core ultra 7 155h we are talking not the normal core i series. This has an intel arc 8 core gpu
