I definitely appreciate this. I've been looking about buying something like this. I realize that this won't appear in any "best weights" or "best bars" articles, but yeah, something like this might fit my needs. I appreciate the breaking down of the bar so I can better understand quality in bars.

Happy you found it helpful. For a home gym, this set is working great! Absolutely no regrets with the purchase, especially for the low cost. As another viewer commented, a pair of bumper plates would be a great addition for deadlifts. I put some rubber pads on the ground under the plates, but a pair of bumper plates would definitely be the perfect solution. I am keeping my eye out for a pair.

This review was awesome. You clearly put a lot of effort into this and it's much appreciated. I am purchasing same set and you gave me more than enough info, I am purchasing this set. Getting this at Dicks Sporting Good for $399 (It's a Weider ) in store pickup. I am adding to an existing smaller 130 LB set with a 3 part barbell (SUCKS). Buying the plates individually and single one piece barbell is way more expensive than buying this whole set. Thanks for the review.

Thank you so much man! I got this set a couple weeks ago, the grip grooves are barely even there and I noticed the bar sounded dry when I rotated the ends that the plates are loaded on. Here's my question, you said that you were going to lubricate the bar? Were you talking about the inside of the end pieces?
@HowtoandReviewsOfficial
@HowtoandReviewsOfficial 3 года назад
Hi, thanks for the input! For greasing The rotating ends, check out 7:23. I was talking about the two contact surfaces on each end, so four places total (2 each end). These are the bearing surfaces where the end piece is in contact with the bar. I have read that Teflon grease is ideal because bearing grease collects dirt, and you don’t want dirt in your grease. But, I used bearing grease because I have a bunch of it. I’m not planning on lifting weights in the dirt! So, I removed the socket head cap screw, pulled off the end, applied grease on the bar at the two contact points, slid the end back on, and reinstalled the socket head cap screw. I did this on both ends of the bar. It definitely made a difference, and it will protect the chrome plating from wearing off and rusting. If you need any more info, just let me know!

Hey I have a question will the weights fit other Olympic barbells because I have heard it’s not the best quality
@HowtoandReviewsOfficial
@HowtoandReviewsOfficial 3 года назад
@@Luis-ic3bm The plates will definitely fit other 2” Olympic bars, no problem (and other Olympic plates will fit on this bar as well). I just measured the bore on one of the plates, and it came in at 2.09 inches, which seems to be a little oversized giving extra clearance. I also measured a different brand plate that I have, and the bore is 2.01 inches, which is a more snug fit on the 2” bar. It’s definitely a budget bar, but I’ve been using it regularly for several months for bench press, squats, and deadlifts, up to 300 lbs. No problems. It’s doing the job.

The Fitness Gear set is so close to what I want. If it had a quad grip it would be perfect for the price.
@HowtoandReviewsOfficial
@HowtoandReviewsOfficial 3 года назад
Practically, four grips does make more sense than three. It’s been a great set for me. I have no regrets and I would recommend it. I have a follow up video on the shortlist. But, definitely buy exactly what you want. It is a long term, daily use item. In my opinion, it is worth waiting a little longer or spending a little more if you can afford it. Definitely don’t want to regret your purchase. It is shown quite a bit in my power cage review: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hJl5NCodRh8.html

When loading the 45 pound plates on the bar today, I specifically noticed that I naturally grabbed the handle on one side, and the plate on the other side. It would definitely make sense to have four handles instead of three. Then there would be two handles to grab.

Is the bar suppose to Slide like that on the ends
@HowtoandReviewsOfficial
@HowtoandReviewsOfficial 3 года назад
Hi! The end sleeves are supposed to rotate, so the rotation is normal. But, the horizontal movement is a sign of a economy bar. On a good bar, the sleeves will not slide horizontally like that. Also, a good bar will have bushings or bearings for the rotating sleeves for smoother rotation. However, you will pay big money for a good bar like that. This bar honestly works fine. I’ve been using it regularly, 5 or 6 days per week, for a couple months. There are no issues. I did add grease to the contact surfaces in the sleeves like I described in the video. Also, if desired, you can remove the socket head cap screws from the ends, add a couple washers, and reinstall the screws. This will eliminate the horizontal movement that you asked about. However, it’s really not a problem at all. I use mine primarily for bench, squats, and deadlifts. Loading it between 200 and 250 pounds, five or six days per week. Zero issues.The bar is fine.

What do u recommend as a replacement for the spring retainers??
@HowtoandReviewsOfficial
@HowtoandReviewsOfficial 2 года назад
I personally do not care for the spring clamps and don’t use them. I have a pile of them. I have a couple pair of these. amzn.to/3ygm0wU I like them. They go on and off super easy. I only use them for dead lifts on the barbell so the plates don’t walk off, and I use them on my curl bar. I do not use any collars on bench pressing or squatting because the plates don’t move around, and I have the option to dump them if needed (Which I don’t need to because I use the safety bars in my cage). The ones I have are cheap, but they’re doing the job no problem for me. There are other brands that cost more if interested.

I will be posting a one year review video for this weight set in the next couple weeks. It has held up great. I regularly load the bar in the low to mid 200s. I have also loaded it with 300 plenty of times with no issues. It’s advertised with a 300 pound capacity, but it should be designed with the significant safety factor and be capable of at least double. I have no concerns loading it with 300 pounds.

@HowtoandReviewsOfficial
@HowtoandReviewsOfficial 2 года назад
I’m actually posting a one year review video on this next weekend! Now that the price has increased, there may be some competitive options worth looking into; at the time there was nothing even close. However, at $400, it is still a good value for cost vs weight. The handles are great. I’ve owned sold iron plates in the past (300lb CAP set) and handles are the way to go. The only potential downfall is that the 45 lb plates are 2” undersized compared to standard 45lb plates. This results in the bar being 1” low for deadlifts. I put 1” pads on the floor underneath the plates, problem solved. The plates have held up great. No complaints. However if standard size plates are important to you, or if you prefer rubberized plates or bumper plates, get what you want. A year from now you will regret saving $100 on this set. I’m personally satisfied. They are nice plates and the weights are accurate. No complaints or regrets.
@jeffreybabino8161
@jeffreybabino8161 3 года назад
Do you think the bar would hold 400 pounds
@HowtoandReviewsOfficial
@HowtoandReviewsOfficial 3 года назад
No, I personally would not use it for 400 pounds. It has an advertised maximum weight capacity of 300 pounds. If it is design correctly, it should have a safety factor designed in, and it should be able to handle at least double that. However, I do feel it bounce a little when I lock out squats even in the mid 200’s. I definitely would not put 400 pounds on it.

I don’t think it’s a ripoff at $400. Weight plates are typically at least $2 per lb (but easy much more), then another $100 for an inexpensive barbell. That totals up to at least $700 in value. Shop around, but I believe it is still a great value at $400. Plus, it’s a good set. I’ve been using it regularly for 8+ months. I have an update video planned for the near future.
