Looks like a great upgrade for the Lathe, and from your original chuck. I have a Set-Tru for my 9" Southbend, but I have never set it up or used it. Seeing this video makes me think I should give it a go. Looking forward to your back plate video. 👍
Hi Jim! Yes I am very pleased with this. I am looking forward to having the ability to machine custom jaws for unusual parts, as well as the extra accuracy. I think it's definitely worth getting yours installed. I'll do a follow up at some point showing this chuck in use and we'll see how it performs in real world situations - but this is some very reassuring data to start with.
For sure. Both chuck and back plate are available from CME tools, and can be directly from them or from them via Amazon.com. There are weblinks in the video description - I’ll ad them here also.
Dose'nt look too bad for the money. What made to go for the American 2 piece jaw ? Lot of sodding about to swap round, 6 screws out and 6 screws back. I can swap my soild jaws faster than you could undo the bolts and refit. Also the chance of them moving. You can buy soft steel and aluminium jaws for a solid jaw chuck. A 5 inch solid jaw 6 jaw Griptrue Bison chuck was over $ 1, 000 plus postage and Import Duty 3 Years ago. Was nicely made in CHINA 😒 Regards from Australia.
Morning Dave! Well I quite agree - I could not find soft jaws for my original chuck. Maybe I can find one piece soft jaws for this one though. But I also like the idea of being able to attach aluminum jaw tops for some applications. Time will tell on that. I always thought Bison were made in Poland - but maybe that’s only HQ now? What a world!
@@StuartsShed Sorry I got it wrong, it was a Gator chuck, used to be a good USA chuck Company, now made in China. Quality though, not the usual rubbish, nicely finished with no grinding grit.
