This is an absolute beauty and one that I certainly don't remember from my childhood - probably because it was too expensive for any of my family to afford!
In this video we'll check out the 1987 P99 and its later brother the T760.
You couldn't get much more Dutch luxury in one video without actually being in Holland lol XD
This was another brilliant eBay find and I must say I've been having quite a lot of good luck on there of late.
Hope you enjoy the video. Don't forget to comment like a subscribe!
And get naming those dustbags

Lovely Philips!

OH MY GOD this is awesome! You are so lucky to get this art of a vacuum. I have P74 Electronic with exactly the same body style. It's my ultimate favorite 80's vacuum. I also had those bag holders broken, but now I have custom made hepaflo adapter in it. It is incredibly quiet vacuum. Motor sound is super silent and the main sound is air moving through the vacuum. Bag check indicator is unique. Metal flap floats on the exhaust air channel. Very unique idea. I haven't fully opened my Philips so I wonder what kind of motor it has.

I absolutely love it. Can't wait to get the machine into the workshop and take it apart!

Before this model sold P79 computer control and I have one in my collection! It looks the same but it's beige color and grey parts are black. It introduced 1984-85 and P99 1986-87. Here both models sold with a teleskopic wand. Propably your vacuum parts are changed at some point with T300 tools, especially grey plastic wands. Also hose end was equipped with a better hand grip (just like T760 with piece of metal part and different suction control) These are very good vacuums and here people still use them on everyday use. That automatic suction control is quite clever because you don't need maximum power on bare floors.

I think this might take 'Amsterdam' type bags. Others I recall are London, Oslo, Berlin, Paris & Sydney. This machine is a beauty and I hope you can fettle that pesky bag holder. I expect there will be a smidge of jealousy in Finland @Vacuumtests 🤩 👍 for a fab video.

Yeah I think you're correct, I think the OSLO bags are for the later 1990's Philips canisters

Well, in the words of Agnetha Faltskog, "I believe it would be fair to say" that for many years the Philips cleaners weren't widely available in electrical shops, at least not to the extent of other brands and models, though they popped up a lot in home shopping and Argos catalogues. I remember the first time we happened upon a branch of Comet after travelling out of town (we didn't have any in Birmingham for years), I was as surprised as much as I was excited to see not one but a range of Philips cleaners on display. Prior to this, in 1985, my mother finally killed-off her Electrolux 87 and replaced it with a Philips P60 from Rumberlows. She bought this model as it was both the cheapest and nearest specification to the 87, and was one of the few to still have a cloth dust bag. I didn't know it at the time, but it transpired that the P60 was and exclusive to Rumberlows, and would explain the infrequent sightings of this model. It took basic to a new level, as the tool kit comprised only a floor tool and small nozzle (my mother used the crevice tool of the 87, and was utterly disgusted that it didn't come with one as standard, despite the price tag), and had no provision at all for storing the flex, which accounts for the fact that she had to get my father to shorten the lead at the machine end at one point, as she managed to pull and twist the cable a sufficient of times for it to snap through inside the cleaner and stop working unless held in the right position. Ultimately though, none of this mattered, as the motor burnt out in less than two years, which came as no surprise as it really had been overworked.

I have one too and I'm reaaally in love with that Philips😍. As a deluxe model, it originally should came with a telescoplic metal wand, and the hose handgrip had a metal end too

I have one of these since last year!. I love this machine, unfortunately mine's plastics are much more discolored than yours and the tools are mismatched from another Philips. Mine always turns on after I press the power button I never had it wait for me to press one of the mode buttons so that could be a issue with yours. I believe my machine is from 1987, the date code is 641. Could you tell me what year that would be? I have no idea how to date Electroluxes. For the hepaflo bodge I've cut up a 8L water bottle neck and hot glued it to the bag door and stuck on a hepaflo to the bottle collar. (see my channel for video of my bodge) And it works just fine. The hot glue can be ripped off if you want to undo the modification.

I suspect yours is from the 41st week of 1986 if my theory about the serial number is correct. Love your bag bodge!

@@TheVintageApplianceEmporium I'm only seeing this reply now, thanks the bag bodge works alright! I'm not quite sure if the hose on mine is original, it's a different shade of gray than the rest of the machine, and is also quite short to be honest.

No my friend. I'm funny about these things. I don't like people giving me money or buying me things. That's not the reason I do these videos. If someone want to donate a vac to me then great. As long as I pay the postage :)
