This amazing tool by Cascade Metals is called the Lil’ Notcher in 90 °. There is a 45 ° angle bender but we are only unboxing and showing out to use the right angle today. Love the simple packaging and simplicity of learning to use it.
Make sure your cane is straight before cutting your angles. When punching the hole, make sure to wait for TWO punches to go through to complete the cut.

I have used one a number of years. Started having some issues, as you did, getting the channel to fit into the slot easily. The first few years it wasn't an issue, channel would sit right down in. Them something changed with the channel dimensions. One supplier told me it'd changed to metric, so wasn't exactly the same size. I have to wrestle with the channel to get it to seat for a clean full cut. I'm getting ready to call Chicago Metals/Cascade tomorrow to see if they now have the old sizes again. Looks like it on their website.
