On the Setsubun dunk lows, the Kanji reads 魔 (ma) and 滅 (metsu) which is short for 魔を滅する. (ma o messuru) 魔 Demon... 滅する To Destroy, Get rid of, Extinguish Bonus history: The Kanji for soybean 豆 (mame), also demon's eye 魔の目 (ma no me), both sound like 魔滅 (ma me) There is a story about a priest telling someone to throw soybeans in the eyes of the demon to get rid of them... basically... 魔の目に豆を投げつけて、魔を滅する

On those Japanese dunks I love the little hit of the swoosh right near the toe box little things like that just really make shoes better I don't know why they just do little hits just seemed to like make the shoe pop more

Jackie Robinson are a must. Just wish they did a traditional red “baseball” stitch on the laces. Also makes a nice hint to the dodgers uniform with the red numbers on their jerseys.

I’m not a Nike expert but I worked with a luxury hand bag company and the leathers were different depending on which part of the animal it came from. For example brands such as Hermes get the premium leather and the cheaper ones do not as it cost so much more. If all the leather Nike uses starts out the same then I’m surprised to hear this!

I didn't cop for retail, but for resale (for a decent price off ebay), I copped the setsubun dunks. An absolute sleeper. I just need to get the Jackie Roberson dunks, but not in too much of a rush. So far, if I don't cop a sneaker for retail, I'll just wait for another opportunity to arise for me to cop. Usually, it's a restock, or someone is selling them for a decent resale price I can go for.

Just an input! Suede is the inside of the skin of the animal (opposite side of leather). So suede is leather just brushed and treated differently. Also whichever leather nike is using, (like yall said) its most likely the same leather but each skin of an animal is different, hence why some leathers feel different than others.

Guys I legit worked in a place that made covers for airplane seats like first-class airplane seat that were all leather and that guy speaking about the leather is 100-percent right all leather is the same exact leather it's cut from a cow it's the hide of a cow and it just depends how it's treated or how it's used or you know what they treated with like on the leather like what other chemicals they use that turns the leather into a certain softness or like you say tumbled-leather yeah that's what makes it but it all starts from the same exact kind of leather there's not one cow that's different from another cow out there they're all the same

If I'm not mistaken and I believe this is true the underside of a cowhide is the suede material and the outer side is the leather or it might be the other way around

I bet that all the leather is the same when it starts but they use the better “layers” of the leather on the nicer shoes. Leather has cross sections, the closer to the top of the cross section the tighter the grain pattern is and that’s where nicer leathers come from, the lower down the cross section you go you get loser grain patters and this is lower quality. I may be way off base but I believe that’s how leather work. Check out the “rose anvil” RU-vid channel and his videos about leather quality and types of leathers.

@@danceallurlife3508 Awesome! I’m glad I got something right. I dont understand a ton about leather yet. But I find it really interesting. I know enough to know that when us sneaker heads see a shoe like a shattered backboard and think the leather is amazing, they’ve got us fooled. If I’m correct most of the nice leathers on jordans is really considered just average/okay in the world of leather over all.

@@Devon523 yes that’s correct in regards to what we perceive as great leather on a sneaker. A premium leather is amazing to touch and very buttery ( ie lambskin) but to be honest would not last on a sneaker as it is too fragile and would look beaten in just one days wear. Having said that the dunk lows quality…..no excuse for those but I guess you get what you pay for. One thing I have noticed is that if you order a Nike by you option even in the dunk lows the leather quality is much better!

@@danceallurlife3508 I never thought about the fact that if you were to make a sneaker with really premium leather it would be too soft and crease and wrinkle a lot and fast! That’s the paradox with us sneaker heads I guess. We want buttery soft leather, but we also don’t want creases or wrinkles. Can’t have one without the other. They do use some really crap material on some stuff like you said. I’ve never tried the Nike by you.

@@Devon523 Nike by you is pretty cool as you can order colour ways that you have previously missed or a unique one just for you with the added plus that the leather and overall stitching is way better than normal. Downside is that the colours sell out quickly and there are limited styles that are available

Ian is definitely right about the synthetic leather to real leather thing that they do manufacturer fake leather obviously you know then purses and stuff like that a lot of stuff like that is made with fake leather so you do a lot of shoes they can use fake leather on it and that's going to feel a lot different from real leather that you actually get from an animal

The leather on pretty much all Jordans are fake and the same. Like unloved1's said the processing is different. Seth Fowler talked with a shoe cobbler a while back on the leather giving insight on Jordans. It's just Jordan and Nike chosing what process to go into a shoe.
