Let's Resin sent me some more goodies, and as I still had a lot of leftover epoxy resin from earlier in the year, it was high time to use it up and make some fun new creations! Today I will be unboxing the supplies, and making cute dragons and a dragon egg. There's also a chess set which I am going to make in a future video, so be sure to subscribe do you don't miss out on that one.
Am I actually starting to improve my resin-making skills? Watch to find out!

I loved watching you do these! That egg certainly catches your eye, but I loved the little dragons too! you'll have to use the same powder that you used on the egg for the chess set, omg how stunning would that be!! Beautiful resin pieces Becky!! :D

Thank you, I'm very proud of these, haha! Chameleon chess pieces would look so awesome, but those flakes are driving me crazy so that may well be beyond my patience levels. 😂

Resin is SO fiddly! Honestly the amount of failures I've had....lol. But I'm learning and improving with time and I was really happy with the dragons and egg! 😆

Nice job Becky, you have done well! I use to do resin myself, mostly coasters that i gave away as gifts, and small shells and crystals that i would include in polymer clay sculptures. I stopped making resin, cause is very expensive and soooo messy! But your video makes me want to make some more! Cant wait to see the chess game!

Thank you! I'm very glad to have been given an opportunity to try out some of their products, because yes resin gets very expensive! I have yet to make a good coaster, lol. I'll try to get this chess set done soon - I'm really hoping it turns out ok!

Thanks Becky. I've only tried resin once when I was a kid (well technically my Dad tried it) as I got a kit for my birthday one year. We only tried it once and the very top layer of pendant didn't set well. It ended up with fingerprints all over it where we kept testing it to see if we could unmold it yet or not. Took weeks to finally cure fully. The rest of that kit solidified in the bottle and my parents bought me beads i could enjoy instead! 😂🤣

It is definitely one of those things that people make look easy but it's actually really difficult and finicky. If that ratio isn't exactly right, it ain't setting! 😂

Your egg us beautiful and the blue dragon looks ok eith the gradient of clean to blue. With sticky moulds, you can use alcohol or acetone to clean them. acetone really breaks it down. In saying that sometimes the $5 mould isn't worth the effort. I've mentioned it before, I did a lot of resin work, when i was starting my art journey. I only stopped because it's so quick and yet very expensive. I moved to slower mediums, that i could work on over several days/weeks/months. I found with resin, each time I would used it, it would be $50-100 in product (both resin and the actual surfaces) and only 30 minutes of time/enjoyment. It's fun, but I went with slower mediums, which are also fun and much cheaper. Although I still have all my supplies, so technically it would now feel free. I don't really think it expires. I havent had issues. I bought mine in late 2020 or 2021 and it still is beautiful. I bought 10 liters so it would last. Maybe others have experienced issues with dates. I feel like they may also just want people to buy more product, so add used bys.

Thank you! I'll try using some alcohol as washing with soap and water didn't get very much off, lol. Resin making really is so expensive! It's also incredibly messy, lol. But I had a lot of fun with these, and that egg is my absolute favourite piece that I've ever made. I wondered about the expiry dates as surely the epoxy parts would be fine as long as they don't mix....but anyway, I guess I'll find out if I end up with any old resin in the future. 😊

Thank you! I find resin fascinating but also incredibly frustrating, haha! It's something I want to be better at, which is why I make occasional videos on the subject, lol. And totally fine if it's not your cup of tea. I appreciate you watching this one 😊

The heat gun wouldn't be for the U.K. also - we have high 240 voltage like Australia.
@BeckyTregear

Definitely get a local heat gun - I wouldn't trust the lower voltage ones with that much power. The smoke that came out of mine was quite scary.

oh nooo! i also have left overs, it now yellow, but if i add opaque colors to it, it should do, but I wonder if it still hardens?
@BeckyTregear
@BeckyTregear 3 месяца назад
Ah yes, I think it tends to go yellow over time with bottles that have already been opened? Sealed ones probably will last much longer. I guess the only thing to do is to mix in some colours, and hope it sets! I think it would still set, but honestly my knowledge of resin in general is still quite limited. Fingers crossed for success!

Hi Becky - it looks like a lot of fun now that you know how it works. How did you 'clean out" the pouring cups??? Or is it one cup per pour??? I would like to see you make more... Jackie
@BeckyTregear
@BeckyTregear 3 месяца назад
The best way to clean out the silicone pouring cups is to let any leftover resin fully cure and set, then it can be peeled off quite easily. For standard plastic cups, I find that they're one use only and then they just have to be chucked out because that resin ain't coming off for anyone! 🤣 Trying to wipe off wet resin is also a bad idea; it's just too sticky!
