Today I have the Cottagecore, Scholarly Secrets and Written in Red Fairyloot May boxes to open, which are the subscriptions for the YA box, Adult and Romantasy book only subscriptons.
Apologies I have no idea what has happened to my April YA box so I'm not able to do an unboxing for that.
I was suprised by how much I enjoyed the Romantasy edition for May!
I am still waiting for Illumicrate to be delivered but will do an unboxing as soon as I have it.

The edge of the The Temptation of Magic book is supposed to emulate hydro dipping which a lot of old books had but mostly used to decorate the end papers. Guess the artist wanted to mix with tradition.

You can find examples if you google “marbled endpapers”. I thinks it’s very pretty and fits the theme of the book super well. 😊

I actually love the edges, marbling has historically been used a lot for book covers, end-papers and even edges (yes they were doing sprayed edges back in 1800s lol) so I feel like this adds to the academia vibes

Ok so I searched for this on Google images and what a vibe! Who would have known we are in the sprayed edge revival 😂 I still think it looks odd on this edition, the pictures I'm looking at of old books looks more cohesive. Maybe if it was different colours and not so bright, because I get 90s from this, not 1890s 😅

The original Honey Witch cover is green! The FL edition took all the green and replaced it with brown/yellow

I feel like maybe they should have listed it as a color change then, unless they said redesign cuz of the reverse side but then they should have put that one on front? Idk seems odd how they did it.

So good you’re back. I sort of feel like a negative Nancy but all the fairyloot books this month were a major letdown for me :( especially after receiving the Bergmann brothers set and the May Afterlight book which were just so amazing. I am super excited for the June romantasy so fingers crossed.

I'm currently reading Temptation of Magic and I think it's worth giving it a chance. Especially since the author refers in the book to real works of art by outstanding painters and gives them a more magical character, which I find very interesting.

As for the worthiness of the books, Honeywitch - Temptation of Magic - a vast library of books - the romantasy pick. My opinion, the adult and YA book are good, I saw them both last year as ARCs and gave them high 4 star ratings. The romantasy pick was previously self-published and was bad; I gave it a 1.5 and skipped that box as soon as I saw spoilers that would be the book. That it is the beginning of a series is both disappointing and concerning (since that first book was so poorly done, in my opinion). That Honeywitch reverse cover will be on display on my shelf for sure, that one is so beautiful and such a good book.

I would contact Fairyloot about the YA April books, they might have sent it and thought you received it and if you take long in contacting them I’ve heard they won’t even send a replacement!

I was positively surprised by the Romantasy book, really love the overall design and might be my next read soon. :) I am a sucker for foiling on endpapers and oh my gosh the Honeywitch ones are gorgeous! the edges are cute 🐝 would love to see a Taylor vlog! have fun at the tour. 💛

The adult book is stunning! I only have the romantasy subscrition and skipped May due to some very negative reviews on goodreads but they did a great job of redesigning the cover and the sprayed edges are gorgeous!

I really love the adult book, especially the original cover. I think with the YA the bright red was a choice. I think that if you choose an older style then the colour would not be so vibrant.

I see what you mean with the marbled edges, I personally do feel like it goes though, when you look at the alternative cover which I think is gorg! I think it would look more cohesive though if they stuck to either all solid red on the three sides or all the marble design. Ps. Would LOVE to see Taylor Swift content on here, have fun at the tour that is so exciting!!

My April box got lost with Evri, and Fairyloot sent out a new box. May be worth seeing if its been lost, as Evri just stays quiet and hopes you will forget otherwise! I love the Honey Witch copy, it is so gorgeous, especially the reverse cover. I rarely reverse my covers, but I have with this one!

I was hoping that starting a romantasy box would mean that the adult box wouldn’t be romantasy too. I know you mention steamy vs not, but if the romance is the main plot point then it’s still romantasy. On the plus side, it means I’m not going to be tempted to sign up for the adult subscription as they haven’t improved it to focus on adult fantasy.

Personally I get the YA+Adult Combo and the Romantasy, though I might be cancelling the Romantasy because the picks have just not been wowing me and shipping to Australia is a real killer (it's essentially the same price as the books themselves). I do actually love the YA design because it reminds me of a lot of the old collections by university had. I think the end papers are supposed to be like the old hydro dipping/marbling techniques.

Yeah I wouldn't pay for shipping to Australia for the romantasy sub, the picks aren't worth it imo. Feel so bad for you because I know how expensive books are in Australia and how limited it can be. Yeah that's definitely the vibe but I think they've picked the wrong colours, to me it's more 90s

I was so excited for this month's picks but like you I was underwhelmed with the cover for the YA... very boring and I wish I had skipped it!!! haha, Honey Witch was alright but I had high hopes for beautiful flower edges and gorgeous foil accents with loads of colour, so I was bored with it... Romantasy was definitely better in person - I found the pictures I've seen don't do it justice :)

This was the last secret book apparently! I use mine for book marks and one has spare cash in it 🤣 i was very let down by the ya book... its just so PLAIN 😭 i love honey Witch so i might hunt down a copy of that. I love the pin this month but im passing it on to a friend who loves ASID, and i like the book tabs!

im really happy that fairyloot has branched out into so many subscriptions! it really makes it easier to differentiate what youre gonna get, as opposed to illumicrate (though i also like that, but i would say fairyloot would be better for younger YA readers). is illumicrate having some troubles this month? it's almost the end of may and my box hasnt shipped yet, and that's quite unusual for them in my experience

Mine hasn't shipped either, they usually email if an item is coming late but I've heard nothing. It's not unusual for it to arrive in the first week of the next month though

@@WandernessHave you ever taken a colour blindness test? There are varying degrees of colour blindness and browns/yellows/greens is a common one! There are free online tests, it's just looking at pictures and they only take about 5mins, might be worth checking! 😅

Not the most mind blowing month, they’re all decent though. I actually think the romantasy is my fav of the 3, they did a great job with the redesign. I wish thy hadn’t done the foiling and left it as trees for sure!

You were smart. I was going to skip this month because I didn't have an interest in the books based on their synopsies. But I went ahead and got them because I skipped the month 5hatThey had a feather so black and I ended up having to buy that on the second market at more than the cost of the subscription, so I decided not to skip this month and was completely underwhelmed With the books . I noticed that on the secondary market,if I wanted to sell these wouldn't even get my money back.😢

I think you might have to go on the waitlist if you want the full YA box instead of YA book only, I would go into your account and use the help button to ask on their form, they usually respond within a few days :)

For the Written in Red book, i agree with you about the hardcover design. It really didn't need the silver foiling. I just wanted to look at the trees. Have fun at the Eras Tour. I watched her in SG and enjoyed it. Regretted not recording Karma. If you buy merchandise, queue early!
