Advice: Through K Ward's website came to yours; as a beginner your teaching style is ideal, and your work just stellar. I am using the smaller plate (as my hit rate is about 1:3). I am looking for advice on the "ideal ghost". You routinely seem to make 3 images from one 'run', but sometimes I pull the entire pattern off without much of a 'ghost'. Am I leaving the paper on too long? Pressing on the paper too firmly? Is there some advice you can give? Of course practice, practice, practice e.g. why I am using the smaller plate! I pull the paper off quickly for layer 1, much longer for successive layers for a satisfying ghost. Results vary for everyone, so practice practice practice! Thanks for watching! ❤
I tried to find the papers which you mentioned in your videos, but was not sure about several things. In Europe (not England) Somerset Paper seems to be difficult to find. I now did, but it is 300gsm watercolor paper, and it is huge (only size available). As for printmaking papers: they seem to be lighter, around 220 to 250 gsm. The ones you use are 100% cotton, cold pressed with a smooth surface, but still textured - not like Bristol, is that correct? This one is 90 lps, which would be 243 gsm. Fabriano is widely available, Legion is also not unheard of, but not common either. In the end I was really not sure anymore. Would it be possible to tell me, what it is that I should be looking for in a paper you consider a good one for your purposes? What are your priorities? Thank you!
Hi, being a long time resident of the US (I have never been to Europe) I can only talk about resources available to me. Instead of being preoccupied with exact paper specifications, why don't you use what you can find locally and support your local businesses? A truly good cook can whip up a meal with what's in the pantry, so it's the same with art! An artist's relationship with paper is like finding a life partner, you need to work at it. 😎😎😉😉
