Unboxing of My Federal Model 2T Outdoor Warning Siren

Recorded on January 19, 2021. This is an unboxing video of my Model 2T-220V. Purchased on eBay for $820.00 (around $620.00 for siren, $150.00 for shipping, and $50.00 for taxes). Seller's item listing said this siren works. I tried working on the Model 2T chopper. Rotor will not budge even after I used multiple tools and WD-40. Siren seems it was abandoned for 25-35 years in MA. It was in a Civil Defense Siren System. I will dissemble the Model 2T. I powered the control box. Seems the disconnect switch and motor starter do work. I tried editing the video's audio where the volume isn't loud.

MARVEL MYSTERY OIL was designed to unseize aircraft carbs, and I've seen it used to unseize entire engines. When in doubt try it out.

That clear box in the control cabinet is most likely a ring relay, I didn't see anything in there to indicate that it was radio controlled.

The sirens on eBay are not as expensive as I thought they would be. I’ve seen a belt-driven Federal Signal 2001-130 going for $3,500.00.

2:35 that’s because it’s a universal motor that can run on AC or DC. The frequency dose not matter. If you took it to the UK that has 50hz, it will work just as well. My model 2 has that too.

@@TexasRailfan2008 All model 2's came with universal motors (same as the thunderbolt choppers, excluding the rotator and blower motor obviously).

Nice! also, since this is a 240v one you could actually switch it out with your thunderbolt if you wanted to since the armature on this 2T is 240v.

What's the difference between a model 2-240 and a model 2-120? Sorry if you get asked this to much.

Voltage, a model 2-240 reaches full pitch at 240V 12 amps (dryer plug power) while a 2-120 reaches full pitch at 120V 24 amps, or the same as regular outlet power, however most outlets like in a bedroom are only 15Amp so using a 2-120 in your room would pop the breaker. I think 2-240s can be run at half speed on 120V without pulling too many amps for a wall outlet due to something with the wiring.

Ignore this comment. All but one siren in my possession came from eBay, and they’re all excellent. Sure some are better than others (I’m looking at you, 1923 A), but I wouldn’t call any a lemon. There’s a lot of mystery and rarity out there!
