Owner of a Cort X700 Duality with the Seymour Duncan JB/Jazz set. It's such a ridiculously comfortable and playable guitar, that I find myself repeatedly grabbing it over guitars twice or three times the price. Cort is such amazing value, all the specs, just missing the "Fendson" name on the headstock, which if you're smart you won't care about in this case. Those pickups are the same as the Charvel So-Cal Style 2 you demo'd a while back (that I also own) and those pickups rock.
I think Cort guitars are highly underrated. I have 5 Cort Matt Murphy Signature guitars in different colors, I love them. Matt played one in the Blues Brothers 2000 movie.
I LOVE Cort...I own 26 ( in a vast collection with other brands ) and I just got the 27th one last week : A red G-100HH... I don't see myself stopping anytime soon 🙂 🙂 Brand snobbery is a funny thing, 99% of the time all these people dissing Cort are the same people who badmouth Squier, the same people who will scratch off the Squier logos off their headstock or even the "made in Mexico" on a MIM Fender...all of that because they can't afford the "real" thing... I can and do own the real things but that doesn't change the fact I can have a lot of fun with a $150 Cort or a higher-end model like this one... Last but not least Cort also works for other brands so that should tell them something... Anyway, sorry for the long reply and thank you Darrel for another fine video, this model would look good in my collection...
I've been alive long enough to know that they used to be bottom of the barrel. That said, recently Cort has seriously stepped up their game, and there's a good chance that my next guitar may be from them.
I have the Duality 2 with the Fishies and this guitar sounds fantastic. People say that the guitar goes out of tune when you use the trem, but guys, if you file the nut properly you have a dream guitar that never goes out of tune...trust me.. 🔥🛸
What is the neck like on it...on the very thin side or just a happy normal? I definitely prefer thinner but the latter is still comfortable enough. At some point I'd like a HH guitar with a vintage-style trem (as opposed to a Floyd) in my collection, and the Duality looks like a really good choice. I've already experienced how clear & versatile the Fluence pickups are. Finishes look cool on the Duality models too. I have a Cort KX507 which is very impressive considering the cost of it. Doesn't have that high end guitar feel I've gotten from stuff with stainless frets but still very good to play. I'm sure the Duality is a step up again. Having smooth edges on the fingerboard is also important for me as I've been put off by guitars with no smoothing but my KX507 doesn't feel uncomfortable in that regard so don't think I'd have anything to worry about with the Duality.
I like the look of the guitar and it seems to have some good features. The way the finish is shaved away on the front reminds me of the look of the Fender Acoustasonic. I just can't seem to get with the sound of the Fishmans... I have yet to watch a review in which they've impressed me - they always sound thin and brittle.
OK man, I paused at one second in to comment: I've been on Cort's website to check this particular "Triality" guitar out, particularly because it has an HSS configuration using Fishman Fluence pickups exclusively...I am watching this to see how "stratty" in can get, as well as how "noiseless" it is in all positions as well as in the various positions using the push/ pull options. On to watching, and thanks for the video; hope you and yours are doing great!
I have the X6-SM. I really enjoy playing it. I think Cort make some very impressive looking guitars. Would love a couple more if i could afford them. I do think brand snobbery gets in the way for some people. Great video Darrell. Always like hearing your views on all the guitars you try out. Keep them coming dude 🎸🎸🤘🤘
Just had a look on the webpage for this model, apparently the volume push/pull goes into voice 3 single coil mode on the bridge pickup, and the tone knob goes between the 2 humbucker voicings. I think that fit with what I heard on your demo...it definitely got a lot spankier with more definition when you pulled the volume knob. That's one of the good things about the 'voice 3 single coil' option on the Fluence pickups...you don't get any volume drop in that coil split, just the tonal difference. I didn't hear much difference at all with the tone push/pull but the normal voice change can be quite subtle...apparently Cort have it set up with the more aggressive/saturated voice 2 as the default. I don't think those push/pulls make any difference in any of the other positions though as they are all single coil positions. At least that seems to be the usual way guitars with Fluence pickups work...the single coil voicing overrides anything else (which means the tone knob push/pull won't do anything when the volume push/pull is up). Although when I looked at the Fluence documentation on their website to understand the tech it explained there still is a way to change the sound of the single coils but different to the normal 'voice 1/2' of the humbuckers. Cool to see Cort doing some higher end models. I actually considered this one when I wanted to get a decent HSS 6 string with high end specs and a recessed vintage-style trem. I ended up going for something else but this Cort was one of my shortlisted 3. Just a shame they don't state the neck thickness on the website as I prefer very thin...although I think they are reasonably thin anyway. I have a Cort 7 string, and whilst it doesn't have that high end guitar feel I get from Korean/Japanese stuff, it still plays very well and actually sounds better than all the other Fluence guitars I've played...perhaps because of the mahogany body. For the price I was really impressed. Definitely want to give the this and the Duality model ago as I'm sure they will feel even better than my KX507 as more upmarket models
love Court, I have 2 both 290fat 1 blue, 1 violin burst! that 1 being modded pick-up wise, adding a second vol, removing the super switch replacing with a 3 way but adding 2 mini toggles so I can select which coil is on, so 1screw coil, 2 humbucker, 3 slug coil for each pickup, and a magnet flip so it's out of phase when both pickups on together! my only gripe I would love a bigger trem block! getting back my silver sky, and getting a PRS DGT SE, gold top with moons that having a push/push added to each vol for coil splitting for each pickup a d the tone be a phase switch! the tech hates me! lol! I love the pickups in that guitar, but it's looks not for me , body too ibanezie, prefer a more fenderish shape and edge contour! BUT THEY ARE FABULOUS GUITARS, AND FANTASTIC VALUE!
I know a Dutch endorsee who swears on court as a company... compared to the others he's endorsed, they build all their artists' true custom versions? Which is very very cool...I myself am endorsed but only get stock instruments w upgraded hardware and pickups...court does full customs... yes Im jealous and his guitars are super super nice
Hi, this looks amazing, thanks Darrell, for, as usual, a fantastic review, Do you (or anyone) else have a view on the X700 Duality II? The tonality is a juuussst out of my price range
So tone pot up is vintage voiced and volume pot up is hot single coil-ish? This is a very interesting setup. Might be the best guitar in the mid price category
Pricing on the guitar market is ridiculous so say, up to 700 it is "budget" and up to 1500 it is "midrange" and 2k+ is "high-end to premium" This absurdity is mainly due to brands like Gibson that have inflated price tags because "made in the US"
@@joermnycAgreed, it’s insane. In my opinion, the only Epiphones that should be over $1000 are the ones that aren’t related to Gibson ( Texan, Casino, etc)
Have you ever played a Godin XTSA? It’s like a Swiss Army knife of guitars, HSH, piezo in the bridge, and there’s even a 13-pin output for a guitar synth.
This series of Court guitars is beautiful but on this one the stain looks super thin and might wear off with the palm of the right hand constantly rubbing up against it.
Darrell, I'm not loving the sound. Then again, I've been spoiled by the blue Schecter California Classic that I bought after seeing it on your show. THAT guitar has a wide range of tones and a quack that could kill! :D
Looks liks a nice guitar. The offset coloration on the top reminds me of the "fat camo" dresses with black side panels that some over-indulging actresses wear to awards shows; makes it hard to see the actual outline.
It’s probably just switching from regular to “hot” pickups, though sometimes it’s a “vintage/modern” tone shift (the Epiphone Prophecy Les Paul does that, and coil splits).
To me, it looks like a guitar that was partially done, and they stopped at some point. I'm not a fan of the raw, washed-out wood and the small section of finish. It does have a good sound though.
Push pull splitting pots are actually for clean tones. You won’t really notice the difference with gain or overdrive settings. In fact you’ll get a lot of humming if not using clean settings.
Darrell, why do you never give us an actual price on guitars you review/demo? There's no price on the Cort website and searching a dealer near me is tedious
Am I the only person on the planet who can't stand? Fishman fluence pickups? I had the charvel socal2 and there was so much high-end and screeching. It was unbearable. Switch to the charvel DK24 and haven't looked back
Hey there I would like to submit one of my guitars for review. I am a Local Miami Builder, and Build one of a kind guitars. With Video demos. Made in the USA.
