Awesome video! Most comprehensive video on this that I've seen yet. It really is a jack-of-all-trades. Like others have seen, add a lead shot in the thread hole, or add a dab of solder to the end of the screw. I've also coated screw threads with nail polish in other disciplines as a low-octane threadlocker. Hard as nails works great. Oh. And one more thing. mandRel. Sorry.

Awesome looking vise. I ty my own fies,I'm not the best tyer,but enjoy it immensely. The real satisfaction comes when you catch a fish on a fly you tied yourself!

Great review. I've had my Transformer nearly a year now, tying full time. Love it... As you said some issues though. No option for clamp. The Kaimen clamp fits it but you lose more of what little height you have now. I found also material clip always undoes (steel on steel). The arm is main prob, as you say if you swing it back it loosens and falls. Apart from this the rest is awesome. Jaws have lasted as well. High quality. Great on tubes and shanks. I think with a higher shaft and clamp or heavier base this would be the ultimate vice ( vices). Cheers.

I have had the vice now I’m guessing almost 6+ years love it holds everything. I wish the stem was a bit taller and in 3/8 vs 25/64 (10 mm). What I did was contacted Stonfo and purchased just an extra stem $34.34 and fits into the far end hole on the base to mount my light/magnifier etc. has really helped to have more working space and distribute the weight.

There are tons of aftermarket goodies that are very affordable and make the vise even more useful including a better bobbin holder, a stem mounted tool caddy, and others. I ended up bolting the base to my desk so I could better crank down on larger flies to tighten materials.

Try putting a small lead shot in the tension screw hole on your bobbin holder. We do this on some assemblies where I work.

Don't let that stop ya brother! Start with larger patterns and streamers, and keep 'em simple. Truthfully, the simple patterns usually work just as well as the eye candy. My great uncle has been tying for well over half a century. If I recall correctly, he is approaching 90 (if not actually there already) and even with unsteady hands and declining health still pops out beautiful fish catchers. You can always rest your off hand directly on the vise for tying in materials. The bobbin is surprisingly forgiving especially with heavier thread. I had one great year on the Clinch river, TN, with bead head flies that were nothing more than a coats-and-clark thread body, and a sparse dubbing thorax. Many of the gorgeous flies are tied just as much for the angler as the quarry.

A simple shaft collar with the collar's set screw replaced with a brass thumbscrew, under the thread holder would solve the loosening problem. McMaster Carr should have all of it. for just a few bucks. thinking of upgrading my vise , think it will be this or the "R" word. thanks for putting video up.
