About:
The Analogue Pocket is an FPGA-based handheld game console designed and manufactured by Analogue;[2] it was announced on October 16, 2019 and released on December 13, 2021.[3] It is designed to play games for handhelds of the fourth generation of video game consoles and earlier generations.
Design
The device features a design similar to the Nintendo Game Boy,[4] including a physical cartridge slot at the rear of the console. Additional connectivity is provided via microSD card support and USB-C connectivity. Support for wireless controllers and HDMI output is also available through a proprietary docking solution.[5]
The Analogue Pocket is designed around an Altera Cyclone V field-programmable gate array, which it uses to replicate the hardware of the Game Boy, Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance handheld consoles.[6] Adapters are also available which allows the use of Game Gear, Neo Geo Pocket, Neo Geo Pocket Color and Atari Lynx game cartridges.[7] This FPGA is also open for developers to create other "cores". The Analogue Pocket includes an additional FPGA[8] for system management.

I recently bought the Clear Transparent edition off eBay (since the original pre-orders went super fast) & OMG I get why everyone loves there’s so much!! Opening it was like opening my first iPhone ❤

@@LovingTechLife I don't have one and was looking for one. But (cliché statement incoming) those things are very expensive even on the second hand market. And I live in Europe which makes things even more expensive due to import etc.

Great production as always David, showing how easy and accessible it is to install openFPGA. I’m patiently waiting for Analogue’s OS 2.0 to bring display modes directly to the openFPGA cores. Until then, there’s the gb studio workaround that I didn’t even know about. Thanks for another great guide!

Nice Video! Can you fast forward GBA games while playing them? For example Pokemon Fire Red to walk faster etc

Hey @MultiGcrazy! Unfortunately at this stage fast forward is a software emulation feature not FPGA. Since FPGA is replicating real hardware and the original system didn’t do that it’s not something we are likely to see.

Not sure if its the right question to ask, im still waiting for my device which is coming soon, but where can i get the games? I mostly just want to play pokemon (all the gameboy ones) Do i have to find the games online? Or the retro patcher is it already? Very good video though, thanks!

Hey Turtle! Thanks for the nice feedback. You have two options buy and use a cart for the game or google the name of the game with the word “rom” after it and you will find it. That is best I can do for you here on finding roms. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the video! When I run the pocket updater it tells me Assets\pcecd\common\bios_1_0_usa.pce is not found. Is that important?

I have a question... If I am playing a ROM like Pokemon, which supports in-game Save... Then the in-game save will work? (Even though I am not playing from a cartridge?)

The transparent smoke one I considered for your same reasons , but an extra $30 isnt worth it to me. Hopefully they are molded with the same plastics but who knows. They should have been the same price as the regular. I understand the glow in the dark one being more.

Seems to me that analogue has gotten better about availability. I signed up for their email list and it seems like they restock once a month now. I wish i didn’t go ahead and buy a transparent smoke one off eBay😅. Still absolutely love it tho!

This was the guide I was looking for, thank you 🥹 I just bought one during the re-stock after waiting for like 2+ years and just saving and waiting and I finally caved 🤣 I got a FunnyPlaying FPGA GBC and I been loving it but really wanted to play all my gameboy advance carts and figured this technology only gets better over time and this is a part of history just like when I bought the Gameboy back in '98 so I figured this is just like that moment so I can add it to my collection and give it to my nieces 😊 they love retro games and we play them on the Steam Deck all hooked up on my tv so every time they come over to visit they can just play video games like my sister and I did growing up. So my sister and I catch up and then we all play games so to me that's worth the price tag. Thanks for helping to set it up :D

@@LovingTechLife Yes! I agree with you :) my sister and I grew up playing games and she loved the Gameboy Color and the Advanced SP a lot! I figured I'd set her up a collection to play through during her free time since she still likes video games, she has a switch lite :) The first games I fired up were SpongeBob and the legend of the lost spatula! One of my favorites as a kid and then Dave Mirra's BMX on the gameboy color! Some of my favorites! I'm playing Link's awakening 🥹
