I see where they write that. The band is stainless steel. The caseback is stainless steel. If the case material was stainless steel also, I think they would have put that under the specifications section like they do with other watches. Instead they put "ion plated". It's almost like they are trying to hide it. There would be no reason to ion plate a stainless steel case unless you were going to make it another color like blue or black
