The white plastic MacBook was an iconic part of Apple's lineup, but this one was it's last hurrah. The final redesign of the white MacBook for mid 2010 was hugely popular, and I managed to find one that's still brand new and sealed in its original box more than 11 years later. Despite their popularity, these MacBooks were plagued with durability issues; but today we get to see one brand new and shiny in all its original glory!

I know what you mean; I feel like these new M2 MacBook Airs (?) will be the modern equivalent of them; they're supposed to come in a variety of pastel colours and be super thin and light and have white bezels and white keys. They won't be rounded and plastic, but the plastic and white keys should really contribute a lot to making them look similarly friendly.

I bought the 2009 13” MacBook as an upgrade to my 2004 iBook. Back then, that was a hell of an upgrade and it was fast imo. Unfortunately that laptop got stolen a couple years later, but I ended up getting a 2011 13” mbp with 16 gb ram, which I thought was quite an upgrade itself and lasted me a good 10 years. @HearMeLearn

the confusing thing about it is that it might look premium, but it's the quality of the material. If they could achieve the same look but make it more durable then it would be more premium

@@HearMeLearn the MacBook was the budget offering if you wanted the premium build you had to spend over a grand to get an aluminum pro. The worst issue with these was the bottom rubber delaminating, and the display housings tend to crack by the hinge area.

The tray isn't there for a specific item, it's very likely that indentation is there to stick the top plastic with the bottom of the box, otherwise the bottom would be hollow as the documentation hole is thinner than the charger hole.

Since you've already unsealed them and consequently made them "ordinary new" vintage Macs, IMHO only logical step is to use them for more videos! It's 2023, I have just watched this video giggling, having just seen it on the exact Macbook you've just unboxed. I bought mine brand new, back in 2010 for £750 ($950), and the machine is still going strong. However, it is not the original. It has had a new white shell, new motherboard, new screen, new trackpad, new harddrive, a least 3 batteries, and as for the bottom, the rubber came off completely and I now have just the metal plate there, with some black foam feet. It's had been used everyday of it's life. Nowadays, it lives on my desk and stays there, too fragile to really be moved. However, as a amateur author, it is a fantastic writing laptop. For my out and about laptop, I bought and refurbished, a 2010 macbook pro that was sold as the same time as this for about £70 or $100, and I like these old machines, because they are before the time before Apple glued everything in and could be entirely dismantled with a screwdriver. Parts are easy to come by, making them easy to repair. And yes, they are very shiny when new, but as my white mac proved, never give up on a machine.

I owned one for years purchased brand new. Apple even did a recall free replacement for the rubber bottom. I updated the ram and HD somewhere along the way. I loved that computer.

I had two white Macbooks, one 2007 and the latest (2010). I still like the design of the model you're reviewing. Very cool and nice-looking machine. And it is fully upgradable!

That intro played when you turned on your new Mac for the first time was truly special, I remember how amazed I was when I bought my first iMac back in 2009, nowadays at least they brought back the "bong" sound 😅

Imagine including not only a power brick but an extension cord with a $1000+ product back in the day. What a time to be alive.

I was a huge Apple fan back around 2010 and the A1342 Macbook was in my opinion the most beautiful laptop ever. Of course I would had never got it back then, but I decided that when I'm older I'm gonna buy one. And so I did. It looked pristine, no cracks, scratches and the bottom was almost perfect too. It was 120€, with charger, RAM upgraded to 8GB, and 120GB (if I remember correctly) SSD. It's more like a collectors item for nostalgia, but it works fine too. Looks just amazing.

So excited to see this pop up, I’ve been waiting for someone to showcase one of these but they only seem to get love from “budget macbook” videos from like 4 years ago. I’d love to have one of these final models maxed out to just have a slightly different MacBook experience as a light web browsing and work machine.

Hey. Nice to see. We still have one in daily use in our bindery. Never upgraded. He runs a Duplo scoring machine and connects to the Filemaker docket system which is running on an iMac of equal vintage. Both still rocking Snow Leopard. His battery did swell. We just removed it as he is only used in one area of the plant. We just leave him plugged in. Can't remember the last time he was rebooted.

I got one of these a while back, specifically because it was the first Mac I was ever exposed to, and I gotta say, I love having it in my collection. Most parts aren't original anymore, like bottom case, hard drive etc, but it still works like a champ.

I'm watching this on my 2020 gold M1 air. I had that laptop in 2011 and I really enjoyed it. Even looking back, Apple was way ahead of it's time with design and packaging. Thanks for sharing!

Still got my mid 2010 white MacBook, 2.4Ghz Cor2Duo P8600 with an upgraded Intel 520 SSD and 8GB of PC3-8500 memory. Replacement battery by Apple in 24/01/11 still holds 5082/5770 design capacity. Lovely bit of kit

yep, I used those macbooks in school too. Fast forward 10 years and I have just bought my first ever macbook, the m1 macbook air. I have always like the mac OS (despite my lacking experience) and now I have been able to justify purchasing one (the sheer power of the m1 being owed most thanks). And now I am in the mac rabbit hole on youtube.

My first mac was a white iBook G3 that I bought new in 2003. It continued to have problems with the video chipset, and after 3 years, Apple replaced it with an iBook G4. I really liked the iBook, and it was cool to see the design language last so long. After the iBook, I've always had Mac Mini's, but I still have a little bit of nostalgia for the acrylic cases. Also, the opening on Snow Leopard was awesome to see again!

Still have it as my first Mac and use it every once a while nowadays, the late 2009 model MC207 with the box also. Changed the battery and the charger, swap HDD with SSD and it boots around 21 - 22 seconds. Fan kicks off when plays RU-vid in 1080 but doing fine with 720. Still a viable and competent browsing machine though. What's crazy about it when still using Snow Leopard, I got like 8 hours of battery life doing work in 2010 back then which was unheard of at that time. Good ol' times.

I remember sitting in the Apple Store with an employee unboxing my first Mac (the May 2009 normal white MacBook) and watching that Mac OS X intro video... call me sad if you may, but it was one of the most amazing memories from my upbringing!

My school had these for years, and constantly upgraded them and fixed them to keep using them, they gave us these around 2014, but boy were they scratched and the bottom was more grey than white, the battery in mine ended up bulging to the point it may explode, it had pushed up the track pad and all. Isn’t that amazing to see that macbook turn on that hasn’t even been touch since factory

I am using a 2010 Unibody right now! Comparing this to my 11 inch 2013 MacBook Air, The screen is significantly better, and the upgradable storage will make this machine not bog down as much with over 20+ chrome tabs. The Air has 4 and always will, and I hope to upgrade this machine to 16 GB!

We didn't have these ones at my elementary school. We had the previous ones and I remember being obsessed with them! I also remember when we got the white plastic eMacs upgraded from the older iMacs and everyone was so obsessed with them.

Love the retro type videos. My kids have new M1 MacBooks for college but the ole man, aka me, is hanging on to my early 2015 MacBook Pro. Sure, I upgraded the hard drive and she still edits video very well, I do wish LumaFusion would work. Great stuff, keep it up.

I bought a 2010 MacBook last year and love the design. It had the original battery in it, which had only 18 charge cycles! The case is in very good shape with a few minute scratches. Even the rubber pad on the bottom is in good shape. The MacBook has been upgraded with a 240 GB SSD and 4 GB of RAM, which is plenty for what I use the MacBook for. It's too bad the polycarbonate case is so impractical, I like the design much better than any of the other MacBook designs. I'm now looking for a good example of the black polycarbonate MacBook at a reasonable price.

this was the macbook of my childhood, my mom used to have one of these and i vividly remember playing games on it, watching netflix, i think i spilled something on it at one point which made one of the key sticky, but it survived! i recently refurbished it and sold it, but the memories of that computer will surely live on!
