Now the OG Ps5 model looks like the Pro Model

I really wish they'd give physical copies of the games in these bundles too. You could sell it if it was a game you didn't want and use that money to buy a game you like more.

So weird how they are now both OG and slim bundles in stores. Both for the holiday season.

Still hate the disc drive still being so big. Like yeah they really can't change it's size, but why does it have to hang off the side lol

Got mine today. It was nice to see that I could go to the store and find them fairly easily. They were at my local Best Buy, and target.

I love those new deep red plates, red and black just work. Wasn't a fan of the first red they used, too pink, but this red 👌🏻

I am with you, I LOVE the look and size of this one more! Especially when you compare them next to each other. It really puts it into perspective. For the last 3 years we’re forced to except the design but now that there is a new design out, I feel like SONY did it right this time. I just picked my bundle up today. I got the last one my Target had in stock! I love Target because of the 5% discount they give so I ended up paying almost a flat $500 even for it!

Seeing if the disc drive was removable is exactly what I came here for. Now this is definitely the model I'm picking up

If you position the new PS5 slim vertically the official Sony stand may improve ventilation as it raises the unit a few millimeters up off the ground and allows air to circulate better. And I l personally like the 2 clear plastic feet for horizontal placement- it makes the unit appear to be floating in mid air. Just my 2 cents.

The slim is noticable smaller. Been holding off on getting a PS5 until the slim comes out.

I love my OG launch model but man it’s such a behemoth on my entertainment center.. Won’t lie I have been eyeing to get this lol. UPDATE: Ended up getting one today, retired my launch model it’s now sitting on my display shelf. The small form factor and port changes are a nice touch, not the biggest fan of the glossy panel tho lol.. But man this is a nice refresh.

I was really hoping for a more "square" redesign in the slim model.

I'm curious whether the HDMI 2.1 bandwidth will increase from the current 32Gbps to 40 or 48Gbps or stay the same With 4K 120Hz output, the current model outputs compressed YUV instead of RGB output. Thanks !!

Honestly Sony has to stop with this unnecessary strategy by making the console ugly with the disc drive so people can go digital. I have to admit there is absolutely no advantage getting a digital console over a full fledged PC. The original PS5 looks so much better but still they know they can cleverly design the disc drive inside the console but they choose not to.

It’s so clearly designed to be a vertical discless system, and the disc drive and horizontal “stand” are afterthoughts. And the new version just accentuates that. So strange. I’ve been holding out in hopes that the mid-gen slim model would be an altogether different aesthetic, but they sort of doubled down on everything I hate about it. Oh well.

Wonder if you installed the feet wrong seems to be resting on the center of the disc drive rather than the raised symbols you mentioned. Doesn’t looks very stable or good imo on its side the original looked better horizontal. I don’t mind the look vertically though

If you format the memory, it unpairs the disk drive. Meaning, you have to reconnect to the internet to pair it again.

For a first time ps5 buyer I will be getting the slim when it is released in uk. Thanks for the video! I think people need to get over the slim/not slim. In my opinion it is visibly smaller and from what I hear it is lighter so that means slim to me!

Pretty cool the disk drive is seperate. Would make it easy for warranty due to failure or replacement when warranty is up as well.

For the front usb c ports you can use an otg usb adapter to use type a in the front

I just realized the bottom is matte because the disc drive lays flat on whatever surface you got the PS5 on when it's horizontal. That's why compared to the OG, the disc drive is flat on one side

Would've been nice if you actually showed how the 'feet' slide/clip into place when placing the console horizontally instead of just cutting to them being placed in. I'm curious as to how secure they feel. Do they actually clip into a certain slot or do you just place them anywhere in the gap between the plates?

I don't normally watch unboxing videos but I did enjoy this one. I am actually getting a normal PS5 this Christmas. I don't think we have the new slim ones here in Ireland just yet. Thanks again for a great video.

I am pretty curious how the non-disc version is going to balance when sat horizontal. The disc version seems to sit on the disc drive ”hump”, but since the version without a disc drive doesn’t have a hump… I wonder how that will work.

Being able to take off the drive makes me really happy, use the disk at home and when I go visit family I can just take off the drive and the console be less heavy, all my games are digital anyway

Thank you for not being such a downer like literally almost everyone else unboxing this thing. When it was first leaked I thought it looked bad. But seeing it here and how small it is, I also think I like it more than the og.

So if I purchase the disc version and later want a new color plate set I have to get two of the same color but different versions because Sony has not taken into consideration that you may want to remove the disc addon later down the line? In other words Sony has not provided the digital version's plate in the disc versions package that goes where the disc addon goes?

It’s so much smaller I’m perfectly fine with it being in the horizontal position compared to the OG it’s almost like it had to be vertical due to its size.

The key feature with this new slim model is that even if you have the disk based console. You need internet connection to play anything. Which is a big problem.

I changed the console language to Turkish, but at the first startup, a message appears in English (see important health and safety warnings in the settings menu). There is no warning. Do you think this is a problem?

i think once the holiday season passes, they'll still keep the bundles around with the free game - the game will change, but the bundle will remain $499 which keeps it at sort of a discount. that or they have the slim alone but slash the price of the disc to $450

I respect that a lot of people want the best system but does it really matter what size it is or what color it is I mean it’s all ascetic and all you want is to play the game but to each their own.

Imo it seems like a pretty decent reduction in size and weight. And I actually do prefer the look of the new model with the split plates. I like having that contrast in the middle to break up the solid white a bit. I also don’t mind the look of the half gloss half matte, but I guess I’d prefer all the plates being matte just because the glossy surface will scratch more easily. As for the feet, well them being little pieces isn’t ideal since it’ll be a lot easier to lose them when not in use than it would be to lose a single fairly large base. Also obviously it’s a total ripoff to have to buy the vertical stand separately. But as far as the appearance goes, again, I actually prefer it to the original. It just looks a lot more sleek to me overall, and imo looks decent in both orientations. The og just looks almost absurd in it’s bulkiness to me, especially when it’s laid horizontally. The slim I think will not only fit more easily into people’s spaces, but it’ll just look cleaner and a little more unassuming. At the end of the day though, I still wish they had ditched the wonky wavy design that can’t even exist without being propped up, and just given us a nice flat box. After all, a console is there to play games on, not to be an art piece in the middle of an entertainment center. And it’s be a lot easier to manage if it was just flat.

Im glad we just got my nephew the OG ps5 model with spiderman 2. More plates as well. Ill get the slim for myself in the future just bc i took my brothers ps5 since mine overheats with ps5 games but can play ps4 games all day.

The slim model is actually crazy cool now that you have shown this. Removable disk drive (which could be good for travel), smaller profile, and honestly those legs are more stable than PS5 current base setup. My PS5 on the base wobbles a bit, those legs looked sturdy...silly, but sturdy. Ideally, this would have been the original PS5 design.

The colored covers will come with a disc drive cover and a digital cover

the next edition will be digital only witht the disk drive as an optional paid extra, i can just sense it, that way they can charge 100+ for the disk drive and the extra bit of face plate

3:09 - those aren't the feet - they prevent the old PS5 fat base from working with the slim - it sticks out just enough to prevent you from lining up the threads for the screw

The DualSense Controller is not the regular one. It is an updated one. Just check the buttons :)

I ordered mine this morning, I haven't played a first party game since Spiderman on PS4. A coworker is surprising her husband for Christmas witha PS5, I told her to wait for the new model to be released. She was happy I told her about it, she was going to get the OG model.

Definitely looks better. I hate the look of the original model. It's so big that it's a hassle to remove from my display and clean regularly. Don't like the new horizontal pegs for the stand though. Just gotta wait till someone starts selling a better alternatives for them. Plus we always have DBrand for the plates.

if it was me, i would be glue-ing a clear piece of plastic between the 2 feet to give it an extra help of being more stable

Where does it vent heat while upright?

Two major criticisms no vents around the edges like the larger version of the PS5. And a new chrome version of the old dual purpose stand would have been nice. 😎

I wish they either went even more in on the look started by the original or completely bailed on it to do something a little simpler. It worked for the Fat ps5 with pretty slick curves and initially it looked fairly modern and futuristic even. But here, they were half in on the curvature but then went with an odd boxy look over the disc drive and next to the original it stands out at kind of odd. Give me a clean looking rectangular box any day of the week!
