Great history lesson and a fine looking hat. Looking forward to more videos, thanks for bringing them to us.

The Rancher looks good on you. Your presentation is why I like history; even common things (like a hat) can have an interesting story.

Started listening to your channel a few weeks ago and have really enjoyed it. I think a hat makes anyone look better. This hat looks good on you. I'm turning 69 in a couple weeks, and I've been wearing a hat ever since I can remember. Being raised on a ranch it was just a natural thing to do. Put a hat on as you leave the house. Protects your head and makes you look better.

Dear Sir, that particular hat looks amazing on you! My God, that certificate box is so cute! People are not that delicate these days unfortunately. Thank you for this great channel and those wonderful pieces of history information that a man living in Türkiye would never find anywhere else. Thank you so very much. I haven't seen all of your videos so I have a question - have you ever told us all about the Stetson hats Stevie Ray Vaughan wore? I really love SRV but his models were a completely different story...

That hat looks great on you. Better than the open road even. It’s not big- it looks just right! Thanks for the cool history on the biggest and smallest Stetson hats. I enjoyed it a lot :-)

Not bad for your first hat. One of my favorite Stetsons. Mine is a rancher 10x 4 5/8 crown and 3 1/2” brim. I also have other Stetsons fur in black and silverbelly. Looks great on you.

The Rancher is really popular down in the Southwest and in Mexico. People wear these in felt and in straw. A nice tid bit to include would be that I believe it's the oldest model still being produced in their western line. If memory serves me right the Stetson rancher has been made since about the 1960s/1970s and has constantly still been in production ever since. Only other hat I can think of from stetson still being produced is the open road, but that has moved to their dress line. Great video as always!

I tried to find the information on exactly when the Rancher was first introduced but was unsuccessful. I know the Open Road as it exists today originally came onto the market in 1948. I've bought a history book on Stetsons, but it hasn't arrived, and I didn't want to hold the video until it did. Thanks for watching and sharing your great info!

@@historynerdsmancave7567 The first version of the Open Road came to market in the late 1930's but it was a wide ribbon version, not the iconic thin ribbon version with the matching bound edge which came out in 1948.

Another cool hat in your collection, great for the summer heat. My favorite hat so far is the John Wayne collector's hat. I actually have a 3X Stetson hat that I reshaped myself and put a WW2 campaign hat cord on it so it would look like John Wayne's hat from the movie 'Hondo'. Could you do a video on hat sizers, and how to use them?

The original 'Boss of the Plains" had a 4" open crown with a 4" brim. The hat shown in that auction was not a 'Boss of the Plains' but a 'Boss raw edge' which the appraiser mistook for 'Boss of the Plains'

So I’m curious. Mexican sombreros typically had higher crowns and substantially wider brims. Was Stetson influenced by them or vice versa?

@@historynerdsmancave7567 Indeed you have use the correct name before. That’s how I knew it was a mistake;). You might consider putting one of those asterisk correction text overlays in the video. Many do that when they have a minor editorial correction to make. I do understand the challenge faced by such a monologue. I happened to notice you have no edit cuts - and there were no notes on what to say. Impressive.

@historynerdsmancave7567
@historynerdsmancave7567 Год назад
I believe a 61cm hat should convert to a 7-5/8 size under the U.S. sizing system.
@first2last280
@first2last280 Год назад
Awesome, thank you sir! Out of curiosity did you measure your head before ordering the hat? What were you? I’ve heard Stetson run large sometimes.
@historynerdsmancave7567
@historynerdsmancave7567 Год назад
Most folks measure their head with a tape measure to determine the size. Be sure not to pull the tape measure too tight. Add a finger or two of space or else your hat will be too tight. There are lots of charts online that will help you convert your head measurement to the proper hat size. I’ve found Stetsons to run pretty true to size…

Thanks for the tips! I was asking yours because I was considering the 7 3/4 too, like you, and could compare to my 61.

Never spend a lot of money on a straw cowboy hat because they simply don't endure as quality felt hats do.
@historynerdsmancave7567
@historynerdsmancave7567 9 дней назад
I'm not sure that I 100% agree with you on that, Bubba. The felt Rancher costs $300, and the straw version I reviewed costs $150, which seems like a fair price. A straw hat will last a long time if you take care of it and don't beat the hell of it. Many thanks for watching the channel.
