About this watch:
The road to the men’s Rainbow Rolex Daytona began in the early 1960s with the release of the first Daytona chronograph. Back then, the watch was more of a practical tool for professional racecar drivers and motorsport enthusiasts than the iconic status symbol it is today.
It has transformed considerably over the years, now featuring an in-house movement and a bevy of remarkable design set options, from traditional stainless steel models with a tough ceramic bezel to the sparkling, bejeweled masterpiece we unboxed this week, dripping in dozens of gemstones.
The first examples of the Rainbow Daytona came to market in 2012, initially in white gold (ref. 116599RBOW) and yellow gold (ref. 116598RBOW). These models were decorated with diamond lugs, a rainbow sapphire bezel, and diamond hour markers. Rolex discontinued both models in 2016, only to resurrect them a few years later in 2022 with new dials.
That brings us to the Everose model, released in 2018 via ref. 116595RBOW. Instead of diamond hour markers, it is decorated with rainbow batons to match the bezel. Otherwise, its design set is identical to the first two white and yellow gold editions.
The entire watch is dressed in Rolex’s patented Everose, an exclusive rose gold alloy produced in-house. It adds warmth to the watch and beautifully complements the multi-colored stones. The mid-case is dripping in 56 brilliant-cut diamonds, while the bezel is festooned with 36 rainbow baguette-cut sapphires.
Even more extraordinary is the dial, which features a rich black lacquered finish and dynamic pink gold crystal sub-dials.
Aside from the ultra-luxurious details, ref. 116595RBOW is a classic Daytona. It sports a tri-compax dial, the in-house caliber 4130 self-winding chronograph movement, and screw-down side pushers.
How Many Rolex Rainbow Daytonas are there?
Initially, there were three Rainbow Rolex Daytona models: white gold (116599RBOW), yellow gold (116598RBOW), and Everose (116595RBOW). All three have since been discontinued. However, there are rumors of a new generation of Rainbow Daytonas emerging in 2024, with Rolex resurrecting the Everose model under ref. 126595RBOW. We will have to wait to see if that rumor is true and what changes Rolex will make to the new model.
Rolex Rainbow Daytona Price: $424,995
