There's a lot of conflicting info on the Internet. I thought you could use an access point to essentially extend the range of your existing wireless router by running an ethernet cable between the two. Is this true? I know I did something like this with two wireless routers, one was in slave mode, and I thought the setting was "access point." But now I'm thinking it might have been a "bridge."
You can connect two router with an Ethernet cable, but you must disable dhcp server/service in the "slave". This way the slave will act as an access point/extender.
Set your main router as DHCP, disable the DHCP on the AP. This way AP will serve as signal extender. Keep in mind you should name your networks the same way, but set them to different channels (I would advise 3 channel separation). This way in case of some client moving between signal ranges the change of the device will be close to unnoticeable.
