Ever since I was 13 (back in 2018), I have been a big user of Yamaha's XG soundset. I first used it on my aunt's Yamaha YPG-235 keyboard where it features a lite version of XG. After some research done by ZestfulFawn1234 and I, we discovered what featured the most advanced XG set which was the MU2000 Sound Module. Looking foward to incorporating its sounds into our music.

Hi. What's the main difference between the MU2000 and the MU2000EX and is the EX worth the extra cost (about $80)? The only sellers are in Japan. Did you have a good experience with your purchase and did you have to pay any extra import fees & taxes? Thank you so much!

Hello! The MU2000EX features "General MIDI level 2 support, Roland GS support, and new effects." Roland GS (their version of GM) is featured in the SoundCanvas line. So, it adds a GS soundset to the existing XG/GM sounds. The original MU2000 model can be upgraded to an EX version (I don't know how to). My model is a factory EX because it has a GS logo on the front instead of a TG-300 logo. However, the original MU2000 is still a fine piece of equipment, and it has all of the necessary features and tools. The EX upgrade isn't 100% necessary, in my opinion, but again, it depends on your use intentions. I had a good experience with the Japanese seller. The price was $330; I paid about $60 in shipping, and the tax was $19.80. I don't recall there being any other fees with this seller. Thanks for watching!
